To think Lady Gaga is not appropriate music for a class of five year olds?

DD1's class are allowed to take in CD's to listen to during tidy up time. And of course she comes home and wants to watch the videos on TV and I know I'm an old fart but I don't think Lady Gaga is an appropriate role model. What's wrong with a bit of classical music, or something innocent like HSM? I'm prepared to get flamed for this, I admit I'm an old fart!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 19/10/2009 14:29

No, intersex is the correct term for what used to be referred to as 'hermaphrodite'.

VictoriousSponge · 19/10/2009 14:30

like a worm then.

woah woah woah waoh waoh

VictoriousSponge · 19/10/2009 14:31

I think i remmber the same debate over BOy geaorge circa 1983

shockers · 19/10/2009 14:32

My ds (9) told me that Lady Gaga has a willy...he was fascinated.I really am an old fart so I didn't know quite how to respond.... "is that so?" or "nah... that doesn't sound right"
I don't like it when the 8 yr old girls in my class practise 'sexy' dances in the playgound whilst singing in American accents. We try to distract with skipping games or elastic but the chants always seem to come back to 'knickers'. Funnily enough I know the words to most of them. The only thing that's changed is that we sang about Hitler's testicular arrangement and they chat about Lady Gaga's tackle

hanaboo · 19/10/2009 14:35

@kat's winkie and foo foo

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 19/10/2009 14:37

No, not like a fucking worm. That's really offensive.

bigsquirtybloodylips · 19/10/2009 14:37

my dd1 who had just turned 5 loves lady ga ga music - poker face...she is so into music since the age of 4 and she knows music more than i do! and also she is in a dance class academy where they plays lots of varies music so i cant put my hands over her ears if i didnt wants her to listen to it cos she will hear it from elsewhere too.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 19/10/2009 14:38

Shockers we used to sing the one which went 'ooh ah I've lost my bra left my knickers in my boyfriend's car' circa 1987!

gorionine · 19/10/2009 14:43

I did probably dance to that one too kat2907, when I was little but I could nopt speak english at the time and nor did my parents. Now that i can actually understand what my Dcs listen to I am far mor critical than my parents were to their choice of music.

shockers · 19/10/2009 14:43

That's what they were singing last week whilst playing with a big elastic. Thing is, they didn't mind who heard them! I'm sure we only did it out of earshot!

nightmareteamgirl · 19/10/2009 14:44

Lady Gaga has tackle????

Gawd I am very confused ...
We dont listen to the radio much, but DS (4.5) HAS heard most of Lily Allen and his fave albums are Meatloaf (someone else mentioned that??), Queen, Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi's Slippery When wet and any other music where 'boy singers shout'

He did ask if he could take Meatloaf in for everyone at nursery to hear and I suggested perhaps not, which he conceeded was probably right as they werent alllowed to say 'dead' Took me about 15 mins to realise he was referring to 'Dead Ringer for Love'

But I digress I am not sure if YABU or not. Lady Gaga isnt something that would worry me as a song, but I wouldnt want DS to watch it on MTV. He misunderstands lots of words anyway, so he probably wouldnt make that much sense of it
I definately don't have a problem with HSM or Hannah Montana- I mean could you get more clean cut? I think its that anti pop culture, we only eat organic tofu attitude myself ...

shockers · 19/10/2009 14:49

Disclaimer.... I can't say whether or not Lady Gaga actually does have tackle. It was a rumour spread by 9 yr olds!

BarakObamasTransitVan · 19/10/2009 14:50

I would much, much prefer Lady GaGa to effing HSM.

VictoriousSponge · 19/10/2009 14:51

worms are hermaprohdites arent they

hanaboo · 19/10/2009 14:57

yea, they are, and if u chop them in half they turn into two worms! wonder if that would work with lady gaga? lol at the thought of two lady gagas wriggling around

TheHeadlessWombat · 19/10/2009 15:16

I'd rather have my hypothetical 5 year old listen to almost anything other than HSM.

hanaboo · 19/10/2009 15:28

nothing to do with tofu, nightmare... but hsm is about borfriends/girlfriends among other things is it not? for a 10 yr old, yes its clean fun but 4/5 yr olds don't need to know about any of that yet do they
