to not like the RSPCA and turn over when their adverts come on TV.

I will get flamed no doubt and I'm probably lighting the blue touch paper and then going off for some quality time with DH and leaving people to go demented but here's the crack:

I hate all these begging for money adverts on TV, for animals.

I want to give my money to abused children, great ormond street, breast cancer, other cancers etc.

I want to help poorly children, save daughters and mothers, sons, siblings, fathers, grandparents from diseases and death.

I do not want to house a rabbit or any other kind of animal.

I'm no animal lover as you may have gathered and that doesn't make me a bad person but I just think these people need to gain some perspective.

I hate reading about people who have left thousands of pounds to some animal charity. There are people, family members, dying out there. People are worrying for their children's lives for crying out loud.

Surely these are more worth while charities? I don't want to be guilted into giving however many pounds a month to dogs or hamsters in this 'difficult climate'.

I want to give hope and aid research into saving lives.

That's your opinion, i give too what charitys i think benefit from the donations, people charity's get donations from people like the op that hate animals.

ImMissWorld · 16/10/2009 19:06

Totally - I've just noticed you are in fact the OP (I'll claim £2.50). So you didn't just light the touchpaper and scarper then??!!

PixiNanny · 16/10/2009 19:07

What annoys me about this is the people who donate to animal charities yet openly go on about how every other type of charity is just after their money . You'd be surprised at how many of those people I have actually met! I was discussing it with a friend ages ago and she told me never to say it again. Why? I ask; because her Mum is one of those people, and she agrees with her Mum because human-charities get enough money as it is Her Mum pays out around £50 a month in direct debit donations to animal charities yet shuns any child/cancer/water/etc charity. It doesn't make sense to me.

I don't give money that often though, but I volunteer a lot as it makes me feel better than giving money!

ImMissWorld · 16/10/2009 19:08

PixiNanny - it is indeed a weird world where people give their own money in whatever way they choose. Humans eh, animals are so much better.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 16/10/2009 19:11

That was last night I had to pop in tonight I'm a MN addict doncha know

I know many people donate to animal and human charities, but some people are saying they only give to animals.

TheSunshine- I didn't say I Hate animals, I just don't feel anything for them. Big difference. I don't hate anyone or anything.

OrmIrian · 16/10/2009 19:11

I really think these weird misantropic animal lovers who refuse to care about non-animal charities are very very rare. And to be pitied rather than hated.

andgodcreatedwoman · 16/10/2009 19:14

One last comment before I leave this thread:

The reason the RSPCA gets so much more money is because it has been going for longer so naturally has a higher profile than the other animal charities. It was actually formed before the police force!

If there weren't so many people out there breeding animals for money, we wouldn't be in this mess.

But anyway, that is nothing to do with the op.

thesunshinesbrightly · 16/10/2009 19:14

I volunteer too, i'm just about to do some work for dogs trust, and it's very rewarding and if i suddenly came into money(i mean lotta style) their are alot more charity's i would give alot of money to.

thesunshinesbrightly · 16/10/2009 19:16

op, am i correct in saying you only give to human charity's???

thesunshinesbrightly · 16/10/2009 19:17

Their is no need to HATE me cause i give to animal charity's

thesunshinesbrightly · 16/10/2009 19:20

weird misantropic animal lovers??? what because i would rather give too animals, i hold my hands up, i prefer animals rather people, yes.I am really not commiting any crime to be called weird.

ImMissWorld · 16/10/2009 19:22

Sunshine - it's not weird and you're not weird (well not on this topic, you may be weird otherwise )

Animals are lovely and you don't need to justify that.

OrmIrian · 16/10/2009 19:51

It was meant to be ironic.

Ripeberry · 16/10/2009 20:03

People who don't like animals of any kind are a bit strange

Gracie123 · 16/10/2009 20:09

TBH what bothers me the most is how often these adverts are on. They must have spent millions on those TV campaigns. Probably could have saved a couple of hundred abandoned dogs with that money...

PixiNanny · 16/10/2009 21:35

ImMissWorld - I have no problem with people donating money to whatever cause they see fit, however I find it weird when they happily fork over money to one type of charity and shun all others on purpose (as in they actively shun them in the street as well but happily fork over more to their preferred charity type) because they feel they get enough from other people. Surely all charities deserve money equally? Not just human/non-human ones? I don't hate them, just find them extremely odd.

Personally, if I had money to spare I'd likely donate to charities who worked with young people and children in the UK before choosing to donate to other types of charities, but if I had more money, I'd probably spread it over a few very different charities as I'd feel bad if I didn't For now I only have time rather than money on my hands to spare so I volunteer instead (admittedly for Age Concern but that was just as it was a shop a) close to my home and b) that would take me on as a one-morning-a-week volunteer! Unbelievable how snobby some charity shops are!)

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 17/10/2009 14:56

Ripeberry- we're not strange, I explained why earlier.

Sunshine- yes I only give to human charities, as I said earlier I think there are bigger things to worry about than animals. That's the way I feel. Why are you on about people hating you? No one hates you, people are just dicussing their views.

thesunshinesbrightly · 17/10/2009 21:05

TotallyAndUtterlyPan...

fair do's, i feel the same about humans, i prefer animals so i see where you are coming from.

WickedWench · 17/10/2009 21:24

I won't be donating any more money to the RSPCA because of this -

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/8298700.stm

The case has already racked up massive legal fees that have halved the size of the estate and the RSPCA are going to throw more money away by appealing the judgement.

I support both human and animal charities but prefer to donate to smaller, local based ones where I can see how my money is making a difference.

anonymous85 · 18/10/2009 03:22

TBH I'm a little tired of the pressure. We donate $40 a month for a charity and that is what we can afford, I would more if we could.

A charity similiar to like world vision has been coming around with an African man dark as the night, he seems lovely, and they have an english speaking woman talking. We donate to a cancer fondation, and I remember once saying we already donate to them, and felt like they were more worthy, and another time I said we are trying to save for a house in front of the African guy too and felt so selfish and like a snob - here we are with furniture food and a roof over our heads renting and they have nothing. I came in and cried once, my heart does go out to them, DH said no more charity atm, and I walk inside from seeing him and hearing his families story and feel gutted. I think stuff like look we have this and that we could even sell our single lounge from our 3 pc sofa and donate - we don't really need that extra couch.

I feel like a total bitch whenever I get asked from charities and I quickly go, sorry not interested. I know it must be so frustrating for the staff.

I can only hope charities keep up their good work, and later we will donate more, even though I feel the guilt, just wish I didn't have to feel that way and do wish they avoided me so I didn't have to feel this way each time

WickedWench · 24/10/2009 22:13

So even though I have a police sponsored sticker at the side of the door about not buying or selling on the doorstep a bloody RSPCA chugger calls on Friday evening telling us how generous our neighbours had been and suggesting what donation we should give monthly.

Sent him away and told him that I wouldn't be donating any money to the RSPCA because if they can afford to pay barristers to appeal the judgement in the will case - when half of the estate has already gone in legal fees - then they didn't need my donations. Bloody cheek!

Vallhala · 24/10/2009 22:33

Like Sunshine I do my bit for animal welfare and I prefer animals to humans. I also donate to and fundraise for CLIC Sargent.

I will NEVER donate to the RSPCA though. With 119 MILLION pounds in the bank, the best they could do for 10 GSDs left when their owner died recently was to brand them unhomable and kill them... WITH A CAPTIVE BOLT GUN.

I both get my hands dirty for and donate what little I can to my local independently owned no-kill dog rescue, which is funded entirely by donations by people like myself and the pension, savings and overdraft/re-mortgage of the wonderful couple who run it and who work a minimum of 18 hour days, 365 days a year, never taking even a day off or celebrating Christmas. They do this to care for and protect the 80 dogs in the rescue, many of whom the RSPCA refused to take when asked by the owners, or which came from council pounds and to whom the RSPCA turns a blind eye or who would be killed by the RSPCA as too old/expensive to keep/ugly to rehome.

Woe betide the RSPCA rep who comes knocking on my door!

VengefulSinner · 24/10/2009 22:50

I prefer animals to humans also. I must admit that I hate the adverts on TV, BUT my hate of these ad's applies to all adverts that show suffering. I find it very dostressing.

I have a DD to GOSH and that is it. I give my local RSPCA shop all my stuff that is not wanted/needed anymore which amounts to about 10 black sacks 3 or 4 times per year.

Having said that, I may re-evaluate that following the comments on the RSPCA's actions.... I shall have to look into it

I am also fully aware that both my nan and my mother have provisions for Battersea Dogs Home in their wills....

WickedWench · 24/10/2009 22:53

Good for you vallhala. I'm a Clic Sargent donator too. They were fab when DS was ill. And Candlelighters. Those are my two favourite 'human' charities and only because I've been on the receiving end of their assistance.

As for animal charities I only give to our local shelters because I know and can see where the money goes. And it is towards helping animals and not to funding some awful corporate identity.

The sad thing is though that the RSPCA rep who called didn't have a clue what I was talking about. His knowledge of the RSPCA was limited to say the least.

Vallhala · 24/10/2009 23:00

Wicked, I'm fortunate never to have needed the help of CLIC Sargent, but my DCs friend did. He passed away this summer aged just 14, having raised over £325,000 for the charity which helped him.

I reckoned that such a lovely young man deserved me to do what little I can in his memory.
