the use of the words "stood" where standing is appropriate and "sat" where sitting is appropriate.

It is driving me insane.

It is everywhere.

My husband and friends feel that this is the final signal that I have tipped over into madness.

Am I being unreasonable to twitch and switch the radio to Radio 4 in disgust, muttering under my breath all the while....

It was on the Radio 1 news today.....I wanted to throw the radio on the floor and jump up and down on it

I don't think it's regional, I think it is having Scott Mills and his ilk on the radio and the ongoing dumbing down of the English language and grammar

Ronald - el Tel has a real go about "I was sat here" as opposed to "I was sitting or I was seated (asif you'd say that), and also stood standing. It features on his show a lot around 8.45 (when I am listening, so probly more than that). Not Irish, just grammar.

But what with the yy?

Sometimes they make absolutely no sense at all...as though they have been employed straight from Mars with a speaks English 101 chip installed but not functioning properly.

There was again a particularly bad one working on the news at Radio 1 no one else I knew had even noticed it...arggghhh
