the use of the words "stood" where standing is appropriate and "sat" where sitting is appropriate.

It is driving me insane.

It is everywhere.

My husband and friends feel that this is the final signal that I have tipped over into madness.

Am I being unreasonable to twitch and switch the radio to Radio 4 in disgust, muttering under my breath all the while....

PS
offof is also tres irritating imho

bah humbug, down with the young

Scott Mills says (and irritatingly seemingly almost everyone I now know) "ah Terry Wogan offof Children in Need" or "Susan Smith offof Cardiff" for example

yy is just a way of agreeing

Tiger.

I like the cut of your jib.

TigerBitesAgain · 07/10/2009 23:41

Ronald - I just don't watch it, I get bored by it, I have MN and the like to keep me occupied, plus I read books etc. I could live happily w/o TV although I do listen to the radio and like the sport on Tv. I also secretly like the x-factor but frankly if I never saw or heard of it again it wouldn't bother me. I would never veg out in front of the telly if I was feeling rough, it just isnt my thing. Call me Ms J Austen if you like . It's a great threat to DS cos he knows that when I say - this tv is going (like the Fucking Fulfords and their lake, see I know my TV stuff) he knows that actually I probly mean it.

SussexVille · 07/10/2009 23:43

Another pet hate:

'At 9 a.m. in the morning...'

or 'At 9 p.m. in the evening...'

etc., etc.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 07/10/2009 23:44

yy SV that is extremely annoying

All those stock platitudes.

grrrrrr

TigerBitesAgain · 07/10/2009 23:46

Tautology, Sussex - sooo irritating.

And why don't people say "noon" or "midnight". IT'S NOT 12 noon, is it?

Ronaldinhio · 07/10/2009 23:47

excellent...I wish I had your restraint and am glad that I don't, iyswim?

i veer between watching absolutely everything with no apparent trash filter to incredibly choosey sneery tv watching depending on how hard/stressful work is at the time

v lazy but lovely

pruneplus2 · 07/10/2009 23:48

Ahhhh!

So... "I saw 'im offof Eastenders in Tescos" is incorrect then?

Dammit.

Back to the drawling board...

Ronaldinhio · 07/10/2009 23:51

yy
someone who works with me has an insane hatred for people saying
"side of things"
once you are aware of it you notice that pople put it in place of all sorts of information
in business meetings when someone says it to him he just repeats it back and nods as though a jedi mind trick
"yeah, side of things" and the other person nods vigorously in agreement whilst I try hard not to crack up

OP posts:
TigerBitesAgain · 07/10/2009 23:53

I have never heard "side of things". Clearly don't move in the right circles. But I do loathe "anything" - wise, eg "he is very handy, DIY-wise.". "It's rather expensive, tax-wise". AAARRGGGH. Call me a bloody pedant but AAARRGGGH.

Ronaldinhio · 07/10/2009 23:56

you will hear it now tiger....

when he told me I was baffled at why it wound him up so much now I hear it all the time and it makes no sense

yy to wise

Exactly! Or should I say "Igxackly", as thats how most people seem to pronounce the flaming word these days?

I have this burning desire to correct complete strangers when they say "Igxackly", preferably by hitting them on the head with a large, heavy dictionary!

TigerBitesAgain · 08/10/2009 00:01

Ronald - I don't even know what it means. Is it short for "well, you know, there might be another side to this"? I feel like a dinosaur sometimes but you know, I'm not, I have a fairly hip job talking to fairly hip people and I have a 7 yo (at a lovely but crikey in a timewarp village school). However some things people say leave me baffled. Really

PS I don't do TV as I say, but we do have a ginourmous TV in case we might want to watch it.
