... to wonder if I'm the only Conservative voter on mumsnet? Is there anyone else out there or should I just go and hide my head in shame?

The title says it all. I'm not a toff. I'm just a normal mum and PhD student. I don't earn much and no-one in my family went to univeristy, let alone Eton. I'm getting the impression I'm in a tiny minority, possibly N=1. I haven't dared post on any of the political threads because I lack time and courage to be a lone voice of dissent. Anyone else out there or should I just accept that I sniff don't belong?

Ski, how many times did you rewrite that before you hit post? Bless.

smee · 08/10/2009 15:59

I doubt Maya Angelou would bother to hit the keys for such obvious idiocy Ski. She is intelligent and you very obviously think you are - there's a massive difference. For all I know you're a genius, and either way you do seem to wish to be listened to. But then anyone with half a brain would see it's impossible to take someone so rude and condescending seriously, so to me you sound quite dim. Regardless as an advocate for the Tory party, you're a massive vote loser.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 08/10/2009 16:03

Actually, Hullygully, skihorse's first gambit was that voting Labour is for "those with no intention of working"...

TheOldestCat · 08/10/2009 16:29

"I don't have to agree with you dear, nor you agree with me. We both think we're right - however, only I have the intelligence to see that very fact."

I think that's the most condescending thing I've ever seen on Mumsnet. Well done, skihorse!

(but then am Labour-voting moron. I do work full-time though, does that mitigate my idiocy?)

Stigaloid · 08/10/2009 16:31

I think someone such as Maya Angelou would think you were being atrocious Ski. Ms Angelou is a fervent supporter of the underdog, played an enormous role in the civil rights movement and is also a leading force in the women's movement. your attitude towards other women is unsisterly to say the least - i think her opinion of you would reflect that, albeit more eloquently.

As mentioned before I have always been Conservative but am not sure this current party would be up to the job at hand. I'd like to see a party that would make it illegal for high-end earners to move the funds abroad and avoid taxation. I liked the idea of taxing foreign inhabitants for moving to this country (i.e. Russian Oligarchs) I'd like U2 and the Rolling Stones to pay their taxes instead of having their accounts done in the Netherlands. If more of the top-earners paid their taxes the revenue would be astounding, but neither party seems to be willing to go after these tax avoiders.

I have never voted Labour as I have never believed they would be up to the job and always felt this massive debt hole was inevitable with a Labour government, but for the first time I am questioning voting Conservative and think that I am not the only one.

Quote:
"Humphrey - I called them all cunts (in caps) and stand by it. And I meant voters as well as politicians. Tory = thick, greedy or both."

You see, this is the very reason I started the thread. I respect everyone's right to have a different opinion from me and would never presume to insult someone in such terms because their political orientation in a free and democratic soiety varies from mine. It stunned me that a presumably open-minded and intelligent individual would think and / or write such a thing. I don't think I'm thick, greedy or both. I appreciate the high number of closet tories who have come out of said closet and presented reasoned views in a coherent fashion. I appreciate the labour / lib dem / other folks who have also respectfully argued their corner and have enjoyed reading their views. I appreciate less the abuse into which every thread like this seems to descend .

Interesting post Stigaloid. Do you have any idea what sort of numbers we're talking about? Don't think I've heard anyone put a figure on it.

Can you get Rupert Murdoch while you're there? "I'm going to tell you how to run your country, but I won't pay any tax in it. No, no, because we didn't make a profit last year. We had to buy a really big, er, satellite, yes. And lots of ink."

pooexplosions · 08/10/2009 17:11

I'm a communist.

But a quiet one these days.

BobbingForPeachys · 08/10/2009 17:17

Sorry FS

I thought it was a minor tiff earl;ier, the exrent to which it has descended now has left me speechless! Even if I am stupid I am still entitled to a say and a vote. Without being insulted.

CloudDragon · 08/10/2009 19:19

Although I respect all of your choice to vote tory, I now have to go and have a little sob about the future.

skihorse · 08/10/2009 19:36

flightattendant wtf? Are you for real? Are you seriously saying that because I've had mental health problems and was a victim of child abuse that's my excuse for voting Tory? ROFL! Oh my, your ignorance is simply astounding!

skihorse · 08/10/2009 19:37

TheOldestCat Never heard of "tongue-in-cheek"?

Actually I am absolutely DISGUSTED by flightattendant's post. I know I've been testy today and I deliberately provoke and say things which are tongue-in-cheek - but NOT ONCE have I called anyone up on posts they've made elsewhere or made such hurtful personal comments.

Unbelievable.

I think actually it says a huge amount about your "character" that you've gone looking at my posts elsewhere and are using those experiences I've had to try and hurt me. You should be ashamed of yourself - what a horrible thing for a grown woman to do.

Most of the nasty things that have been said here towards me today I've just ignored because it's just a classic political argument for which no agreement will be had - but you have been just beyond vulgar and I'm horrified that you would use someone's personal tragedy to mock them.

FlightAttendant · 08/10/2009 19:45

I'm not trying to mock you and i didn't mention it until you demanded an explanation. Once again I am sorry and will ask for my posts to be deleted - or you are welcome to if you wish - I tried to be very subtle about it but I felt people were having a big go at you and it seemed unfair. Once I realised there might be a justifiable reason I didn';t want you to go through any more.

Not my business and I am sorry.

OrmIrian · 08/10/2009 19:47

testy skihorse? Testy?

You were rude and patronising and some of your comments were unforgivable.

FlightAttendant · 08/10/2009 19:50

Thankyou Orm. I am feeling terrible that I mentioned it as I obviously got it very wrong tact wise, have reported my own posts that refer to you.

It was information already on mN and I did not search with any of that in mind, had no idea about the other stuff, I was searching for something else but can't remember what now and it turned up.

Anyway - perhaps we all ought to let this rest now.

FlightAttendant · 08/10/2009 19:50

refer to ski I mean not Orm.
