to want to park my car outside someone else's house all day for free?

Really annoyed as council has decided to implement a residents parking zone round all the streets near our station. Apparently residents have complained about commuters parking in 'their' street all day for free instead of using the station car park. But the station car park is quite expensive and you have to get there really in the morning to guarantee a parking space.

I really don't understand why residents are annoyed people like me park outside their house during the day? It's not as if we're parked in their front garden or causing a nuisance. I understand that residents probably get annoyed that they might not be able to park their own cars because of commuters but shouldn't they have thought of this before they bough their house? Its a bit like people who live near schools complaining about people parking in their roads for the school pick-up.

The language the council has used in their leaflets is inflammatory as well, they talk about commuters 'dumping their cars for free all day' in these residential streets. This is rubbish as the highways agency own the road not the residents! They have no right to complain!

and aitch oh well serves them right doesnt it. especially when its plain ignorant and others find it comical. i am all for teaching them a lesson

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:02

adragon it wasnt me that first said it so maybe you should read the entire thread. ignorance ha

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 06/10/2009 11:03

"i am all for teaching them a lesson "

OK, here's a lesson for you. You do not own the space outside your house. It is perfectly legal, although irritating, for someone else to park there for as long as they like. It is completely illegal to let down the tyres on someonelse's car.

Do you see the difference?

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:04

no not really as we do own the space

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 06/10/2009 11:04

I have read the thread, I know you didn't suggest it but you think it is "a bloody good idea" and would "serve some ignorant buggers right". Clearly you are ignorant of the fact that it is illegal.

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:06

i like the fact you ignored the bit about it being our space, and i am the ignorant one.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 06/10/2009 11:06

Really? Then perhaps you should have said it was a private parking space and not a public road. This thread was about parking on public roads.

It is still illegal to deliberately damage someone's car though.

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:07

next time just for you i shall go out and shake there hands for making our life harder

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:07

i just said it was a good idea and would serve them right, i didnt say i was going to do it now did i.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 06/10/2009 11:08

Please point out where I said you were ignorant? I said you were ignorant of the fact that it is illegal to damage property which means that you did not know it.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 06/10/2009 11:08

lol.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 06/10/2009 11:08

But it is not a good idea, it is illegal.

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:10

but its a funny thought though,

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:11

drink driving - illegal
burglary - illegal
murder - illegal
rape - illegal

all of these are obviously illegal, but how come most people get away with these things, maybe its because the police are to busy searching for people letting other peoples wheels down

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 06/10/2009 11:12

No, not really.

What was funny was the other thread where an annoying van driver had his wing mirror knocked off by a passing lorry. Completely accidental but great karma as it wouldn't have happened had he not parked annoyingly.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 06/10/2009 11:13

Tiredmumno1, now you really are talking nonsense.

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:14

ooo van drivers, cant stand them, so good glad he had a bad day lol

edam · 06/10/2009 11:15

who gets away with 'all those things'? Must have been a very busy day for them.

OrmIrian · 06/10/2009 11:15

BTW why can't the OP walk or cycle?

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:15

ahh but its not nonsense, people always get broken into round here but they get away with it. wheres the justice. anyway we are going off the beaten track. back to people who should maybe park further away and walk

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:19

orm - they reckon they live to far away.

ferndalee · 06/10/2009 11:21

To answer the question about why don't I cycle to the station rather than drive, because as I've already pointed out, I live miles away from the sation. Some have pointed out that I should have thought about this before I bought a house miles away from the station. Yes, but life isn't that straightforward is it? When I bought my house several years ago I did work local, after losing my job I had no choice but to take another job which involved a commute.

My argument remains that the road does not belong to the residents of the street but to the highways agency. I park considerately ie do not block junctions, block driveways or make it difficult for others to move their cars.

yanbu to park on a public road all day regardless of wether or not it's outside someones house, i do it regularly.
however where you ae wrong is "They have no right to complain!", well that's exactly what they have a right to do, just like i'd imagine you now have a right to complain about the councils decision.
the council looked at their complaint and decidied on it's merits to enforce resdents only parking.

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:25

yes but it has a knock on effect with others that park there after you they might park like idiots, it causes accidents. and again the residents have more rights than yourself. come on ALL DAY you park there for it is a bit wrong, i would never do that to someone unless i got their permission first. but i usually walk everywhere anyway so much easier than cars or buses

Tiredmumno1 · 06/10/2009 11:27

and oh well i am glad for the residents that it is now parking permits haha now they can watch all you annoying commuters driving around looking for elsewhere to park. knowing you will never disrupt their lives again.
