or are Huggies just totally rubbish?

Used one pack of Huggies when DD was newborn, found that they leaked a lot so never bought them again.

Tend to buy whatever is on offer (supermarket own or Pampers) - obviously do get occasional leaks but only when the nappy is hugely full (or there is a monster up-to-the-shoulders poo).
3 years down the line (with DD no longer in nappies and DS now 17 months old), partner bought a box of Huggies because they were on offer. They have leaked nearly every single night and often during the day as well.

I am sure that this cannot be the same for everyone otherwise they would be out of business.

DD was a teeny prem when she wore them and DS is a big bruiser so can't be that they fit fat/skinny babies better.

So is anyone happy with Huggies?

(I am not going to be converted to cloth I am happy with my current anything-but-Huggies Earth destroyers )

My 20 month old has suddendly started waking up every morning wet through (last week-10 days), this has never happnened before and we've used Pampers and only Pampers from birth, have tried changing at 11 when we go to bed/giving him less to drink in the evening and nothing has worked!

So today I bought some Huggies to try... nervous now I saw this thread! Might have to update you in the morning.

SofaQueen · 04/10/2009 21:35

Can't abide Huggies nappies. They leak, are too stiff, and their tabs aren't very strong and I've ended up throwing away so many due to tabs ripping off in the struggle to put the nappy on an extremely squirmy baby. Happy Pampers user here.

HOWEVER, I love the Huggies pure wipes.

thehairybabysmum · 04/10/2009 21:39

i most use cloth, but when not Huggies ar ehte best for mine. Pampers leak and also smell really weird when been on for an hour or so.

Huggies wipes hte best too...your finger doesnt go through!!

Huggies Pure Wipes really didn't work for us. I found they broke when used and frequently ended up with poo-smeared fingers. Huggies nappies didn't work either - they leaked badly, the stench of wee was overpowering (even when the nappy was pretty much empty) and I couldn't stand having to wipe numerous gel particles off poor DS's bottom. I became a Pampers convert very quickly - active fit and baby dry all the way. Then again, DS is only 22wo (though the size of an average 38wo) so my loyalty may be up for grabs in the future.

SardineQueen · 04/10/2009 21:58

I try to avoid wipes with parabens, but occasionally I am lured by special offers, and find they really clean up. Even breast fed baby poo which is a shocker and kind of dyes the skin.

Makes me a bit but pleased at the time IYSWIM

thehairybabysmum · 04/10/2009 22:01

Interesting Asana, i find the pampes have gel bis, but not huggies???

Agree sooty re wipes, at home i use cotton wool and water (cheap too), but wipes when out. Cant knock the convenience of wipes though.

Mspontipine · 04/10/2009 22:06

I don't understand how Huggies kepp going - me (with a ds) and friend (with a dd) thought they were crap always leaked up the back.

Asda's own for me or Pampers!!

Mspontipine · 04/10/2009 22:06

Well for ds I mean

SardineQueen · 04/10/2009 22:10

mspontipine your name always makes me

kittywise · 04/10/2009 22:11

I hate huggies, they always rubbed where the fastening was and fitted badly. Always pampers for me.

busybutterfly · 04/10/2009 23:15

How funny. We're all different, aren't we? We used Pampers or Huggies with DS1 and 2 - cheap ones were rubbish. Now we have DD, I use Asda cheapies and they're great! I thought it was a girl thing but obviously not...

StrictlyBoogying · 04/10/2009 23:27

Huggies Natural Fit are the only ones that contained DD1's poos and prevented rashes. My easy second child can wear anything!
Huggies Superdry are a bit stiff. After reading this I'll try Lidl pull ups.

Jacksmamwahahaha · 05/10/2009 00:20

Huggies are crap. They leak. Jackbaby has always had a Pampers bum.

SomeGuy · 05/10/2009 02:48

Pampers are rubbish, but we switched from Huggies to Boots cos they are cheaper. Just fine.

Jacksmamwahahaha · 05/10/2009 03:36

Pampers rock.

MichKit · 05/10/2009 10:54

I used Moltex Oko when DD was newborn... hardly leaked, just the ocasional odd explosive poop.

Switched to Bambo Nature when she was 2 months old... and they have never leaked once. Ever! DD is 22 months now. Very impressed and now stock up all the time. They do brilliant pull ups as well!

Plus, not as bad for the earth too :-)

MichKit · 05/10/2009 10:56

Oh, and Clearly Herbal wipes are brilliant, though I've used the Mothercare degradable ones as Clearly Herbals can be kind of hard to get hold of sometimes.

Claire236 · 05/10/2009 11:00

I found Huggies nappies great with ds1 & now I'm expecting ds2 have stocked up ready as we're now living in Germany. Not keen on Pampers but did like Tescos own. Favourite wipes were Huggies Pure with ds1 although I've bought some Clearly Herbal to try this time round.

bamboobutton · 05/10/2009 11:04

nature babycare pull ups are the best i've tried. ds is very skinny and these are the only ones in size 4 that don't fall down.

never had any leaks in them either.

slushy06 · 05/10/2009 11:31

Huggies only girl here on ds If I put pampers on him he would have sore bum within a hour and Tesco and Asda were not much better.

DD a little better but still gets a sore bum if I use the others for a day. No problems with leaks though.

I use cotton wool in the house but I always have a pack of Huggies pure baby wipes in my pram bag it stops me giving into temptation as it is just as much bother to go get the wipes as to use cotton wool.

Stripycat23 · 05/10/2009 11:35

Huggies were rubbish for ds1, leaked everywhere. The only one he could get away with was pampers (I used to stock up at offer time!!). Any brand good for DS2. Guess it depends on the baby.

Stigaloid · 05/10/2009 11:38

I'm happy with Huggies - the only brand my DS can wear without his eczema flaring up. Anything else and he gets a really bad rash all over his groin area.

wuglet · 05/10/2009 22:15

Wow what a lot of replies!
I have never has the gel crystal thing with Huggies, only with Pampers.
