to not buy the adult relatives (BIL, SIL etc) in the family gifts this Christmas?

This is following on from a similar thread really. It just made me think that this year we are going to have to go through the same carry-on just before Christmas of not only getting the children gifts but also the adults in the family.

Now, I don't mind my parents and DH's parents, but I do mind having to buy for SILs or other family members that we hardly see.

AIBU to just forget about these relatives and focus on the children instead??

A few of them don't have children, so I suppose it would be a bit mean, but really, in these times, surely people understand??

We buy for the kids (£20) and for the adults we do a little gift (£5) its quite interesting trying to find something nice for this amount, I tend to buy things in January in the Next sale or Boots.

thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far. I've spoken to DH and told him about all the various things you've all suggested, and had a breakthrough - not going to do adult relative Christmas gifts this year, apart from the ones who are single, and parents and PIL (two siblngs - phew!).

and we'll inform MIL who will tell DH's brother about this so there's no embrassment. Surely it's earlier enough just now to let them know? Hope we've given plenty notice!!

No issue here- as soon as you have children your finances are stretched- we used to exchange ever increasingly expensive adult gifts, but as the children came along we agreed no adult gifts, only children. Now all the children are grown up & we're all a bit better off, we do small gifts- far more fun and need much more thought. Also, my suggestion on this would be small luxuries- a luxury soap, not 5 litres of cheap bubble bath.

that's a good point aswell themerrywidow I'll also be doing that for PIL and the siblings. Not doing big presents this year. I just think it all get a bit out of hand, and this year even more so because I'm now SAHM so not got a second income coming in anymore. Have to be so much more careful with cash..
