Unless, of course, they're trying. Otherwise why would you?

I live in a flat, and I can touch all four walls of my kitchen. (when there is room from the washing up)

Wineonafridaynight · 02/10/2009 21:49

I'm not a mum!

I first found mumsnet years ago when I was thinking I might like to aupair and googled it. It came up with a mumsnet thread.

I had a read of it and then of more of the site and liked what I saw. There seemed to be lots of lovely and very interesting people posting here!

Then there were a couple of occasions when I needed advice on behalf of other friends and family who have kids and came here too.

More often than not, I just come and lurk and read because there are some interesting conversations here. But I have made the decision tonight that maybe I should post more, that's if non-mums are welcome here!?!

I always worry that if people no I don't have children they may think I shouldn't be here!

theDeadPirateRoberts · 02/10/2009 21:52

No wineon - they'll just itch about your spelling

Wineonafridaynight · 02/10/2009 22:10

haha - my spelling is atrocious! And believe it or not I write for a living. Probably doesn't help that I have had a bit of a drink tonight!

ScaryFucker · 02/10/2009 22:27

In many cases, I don't even know if posters have dc or not

It makes no difference to me, I rarely post on the parenting threads anyway

I like topics like relationships, chat, sleb twaddle, chat and AIBU

none of those have a parental requirement

I've not been able to have children, so feel a bit fraudulent at using this site - stumbled across it when googling a couple of questions.

I've signed up only recently, and did wonder if my registration might be turned down when I said I had no kids. But it wasn't.

As others have said, I wouldn't dream of posting on issues directly related to parenting. But I really like reading all sorts of things here.

MuminScotland said 'Some have just found us and think we're a nice bunch of people to chat to!'. I second that!

Although not a mum, I am an aunt and a stepmother/stepgrandmother. I can't describe the kick I get out of being called 'Nan' by 2 boisterous and very affectionate little boys! I don't think you can understand that unless you've been unable to have children yourself.

Anyway, I'm hoping it's ok to stay a member.

ScaryFucker · 03/10/2009 11:54

sussex, you are welcome a thousand times over, children or no children of your own

are you still trying/looking at options btw or resolved to be child-free ? Sorry just being nosy, don't answer if you don't want to

It took me several years of being told I would never have children to get there, so I have sympathy

like I said upthread, I often have no idea if people are child-free or have 9 kids !

PuppyMonkey · 03/10/2009 12:03

I have a friend with no kids who loves it on MN. She posts a lot on Style and Beauty (so she tells me, am trying to work out who she is actually)... think it comes up a lot when you google stuff... and people just read and get hooked.

you · 03/10/2009 12:09

I first joined MN in 2004 when I was pregnant. Then I had a miscarriage, but stayed on lurking and posting until I got pregnant with my now 6 mo DD when I changed my name and have a whole new persona

As lots of people have said, MN really isn't about the kids, that much. The amount of time I spend talking about her in relation to talking shite is suprisingly small

SussexVille · 03/10/2009 12:26

Scary, I am 49 so I don't think I'm going to have a child of my own without a miracle. By this stage, though, I'm quite content with the small people I know and love - nieces, nephew and 'grandchildren'.

SussexVille · 03/10/2009 12:32

And, Scary, I should have said - congratulations on defying what you were told and having a child/children!

ScaryFucker · 03/10/2009 12:47

thanks sussex

Maggie34Behave · 03/10/2009 12:50

I third it!

I have kids but no husband lol. Not very mumsnetty!

purepurple · 03/10/2009 12:58

Yabvu
I am a mum, but that doesn't define who I am.
I have lots of opinions on all sorts of things, just as other people do. Whether we have children or not makes no difference whatsoever.
My washing machine has just bleeped at me to tell me it has finished.

piscesmoon · 04/10/2009 08:42

I like the fact that there is an even wider range of people than I thought-it would be very boring if everyone was in the same narrow band.
I like it because it jogs me out of my comfort zone, I tend to mix with people with similar views and so it is interesting to find those who are poles apart. I quite like jogging people out of their comfort zone and being a bit of a challenge to their thinking.
It gets you out of a rut.

BelaLugosiNoir · 04/10/2009 22:30

Because there's such an interesting mixture of discussion and always something amusing and stimulating ( and I don't mean the Friday night topics!).
I found mnet whilst looking for info to help someone and then to get a get a better idea of what it's like to be preg, childbirth, bf etc so I can support them.
It has been invaluable. Am now proud Aunty.

PumpkinsCantDanceTheTango · 04/10/2009 22:32

ScaryFucker · 04/10/2009 22:39

Pumpkins, I don't often look at profiles

But I had a nosy at yours and it is funny, sad, inspiring and lots of other things too < wipes away a tiny ikkle tear >

Has SANDS really folded ? Whyyyyyyyyyy ??

PumpkinsCantDanceTheTango · 04/10/2009 23:43

Well the message boards have - was a big fight on them and it just escalated. The people in charge decided to close it until 2010! Was general outrage over it. VArious small sites been set up but the weath of support isn't there.

ScaryFucker · 05/10/2009 08:06

awww, bugger

fights on message boards ? Noooooooo, never happens does it?
