Unless, of course, they're trying. Otherwise why would you?

Am I the only person who saw shutupanddrinkyourgin's posting name before and just assumed she had to be a mother?

milknosugarplease · 02/10/2009 19:45

I'm a nanny and came across mumsnet whilst searching for a nannying forum...i use the nanny, childminder bit and some other ones...is useful, funny and informative!

I love mumsnet! ok i can't agree with threads on childbirth etc but i don't see why i can't use other bits of it?!

do people realy think it's odd us non-parents use mumsnet?

Maggie34Behave · 02/10/2009 20:11

yeah shudupanddrinkyourgin, there's a mother INSIDE you!!

DuelingFanjo · 02/10/2009 20:17

I do it because I am TTC but I think had I found this place for another reason then I would be posting anyway because there are lots of smart, interesting and funny people here. Particularly like the 'in the news', 'music' and 'relationship' threads.

I used to post on another busy forum but it's gone of the boil in recent months and I can't have the same kinds of conversations here that I might have there.

I know so much more about being a parent than I ever did before and if I do ever manage to get pregnant and carry it to term then I am pretty sure the stuff I have learned here will be invaluable.

frakkinpannikin · 02/10/2009 20:27

I post because I'm a nanny, I recommend MN to parents (and I like to know what I'm recommending!) and because I desperately want children but I'm not allowed yet.

First comes love (check), then comes marriage (less than three months) and then comes a baby...oh, no, wait, then comes a 3 year posting where it isn't really 'advised' to TTC or give birth - so I shall live vicariously through you lot.

Plus MN gives me a better idea of 'parenting' so I can work better with parents when looking after their DCs - MN has made me more sensitive as a childless nanny than I would otherwise have been towards various quirks and foibles!

pinkandsparkly · 02/10/2009 20:30

I joined mumsnet 5 years ago. I don't have children. I think you would find the nannies/childminders and nurseries sections rather one sided and probably not very useful if only parents were allowed to post on here.

I love mumsnet and I know that one day, when I have my much longed for children, I will be relying on this place more than ever.

yabu

LouLovesAeroplabeJelly · 02/10/2009 20:34

Because I am a nanny and basically a parent to my charges. Plus certain nanny focussed websites are boring and everyone has hugs and tickers and you can't be mean!!!!!
Plus MN is a wealth of knowledge!!!

Jackin · 02/10/2009 20:36

Er I'm a Dad I'm I allowed to join in?

theDeadPirateRoberts · 02/10/2009 20:47

(Psst! LouLoves! Too many exclamation marks.

CF - "What sort of person," said Salzella patiently, "sits down and writes a maniacal laugh? And all those exclamation marks, you notice? Five? A sure sign of someone who wears his underpants on his head. Opera can do that to a man."

theDeadPirateRoberts · 02/10/2009 20:53

'ello Jackin. What brings you here?

Jackin · 02/10/2009 20:55

Got my ds to bed and trying to not think about the washing up I have to do

nannynick · 02/10/2009 20:59

Why is it that some people don't have a profile starwhores? If I try to click on your name, I get nothing. If you click on mine, my profile tells you what I do for a job .

Do you wish you had not started this thread?

nickytwotimes · 02/10/2009 21:01

Yabu.

nannynick · 02/10/2009 21:04

Oh and welcome to Mumsnet starwhores - I see you have only been posting since 29-Sept. Nice to have more members but please do put a little more thought into your questions, else people may take a disliking to you.
As you are a newbie, I will forgive you on this occasion, as I do like newbies to get a chance to ask questions on Mumsnet - you will find that we are usually a friendly bunch of people (be us parents, or not) and will often help you by responding to questions be they child related, or not.

theDeadPirateRoberts · 02/10/2009 21:16

Sounds familiar jackin

vandubby · 02/10/2009 21:17

Because you lot are brilliant! I'm 39, single and no kids and am addicted to mumsnet because you're all v. clever and witty and intelligent. And I only discovered you after months lurking on Netmums. Enough Said. Take it as a compliment!

theDeadPirateRoberts · 02/10/2009 21:18

vandubby, you are clearly a uckup discerning person.

Jackin · 02/10/2009 21:23

I think we're going to get a table top dishwasher. Does anyone know any good ones?

theDeadPirateRoberts · 02/10/2009 21:29

Ooh - we've got a bosch, but we've built it into a unit - can't do full size dishwashers, and can't have them on the floor [neurotic].

Bosch v good so far (5 years) but had to have the (impellor?) replaced after 2 years as the plastic rots. Or something.

Jackin · 02/10/2009 21:33

Hmmm. Bosch. Will think on this.

theDeadPirateRoberts · 02/10/2009 21:35

The big ones are actually cheaper though. [annoyed]

pranma · 02/10/2009 21:40

I am a grandparent but I am also a parent,a step parent and an exteacher.I look after my dgcs on a regular basis and love coming on here to share experiences and enjoy the company very much indeed.
I already feel I 'know' some of you.

MuffinToptheMule · 02/10/2009 21:44

I'm not a parent and I'm not ttc. I discovered MN about a year and a half ago. I was an AP at the time and typed in some kind of child related question to Google and I ended up here.
MN has taught me so much and whenever I have a question, whether it be child related, food related or bumsex related I always come here first.
I hope to one day become a mum but not for a few years yet. MN is fantastic

lovechoc · 02/10/2009 21:45

I don't have a problem with non-parents posting on MN atall. IRL I have a lot of friends who don't have babies or children and I actually enjoy their company the most because it means I'm not talking about 'toddlers' or 'babies' all the time - there's more to life than chatting about all things motherhood!!
