To really not give a gift? (yes, it's about weddings)

I got one of those wedding invites, and they would like cash for their holiday. While I don't necessarily have a problem with giving money there is absolutely no detail about what the holiday is.

Plus we will be spectacularly broke - the wedding is just after the Christmas that we will not be buying anybody any gifts for...

So can I really do it and just not buy them anything for the wedding since they apparently 'have everything they could possibly need'?!

From this thread, I am now starting to see newly married couples' annoyance with photo albums and photo frames.

EVERYONE seems to suggest this.

A friend of ours made us a framed tapestry needle point with our names/dates and pictures of a quirky bride and groom on. It probably didn't cost very much..but I was so touched with the amount of work and effort she had put into it.

Or howabout a nice bottle of champagne??
