To doctor my passport photo?

I am in the happy position of finally renewing my passport after ten years of hiding it from people and not letting them see the frankly hideous photo in it (over-plucked eyebrows and ill-advised attempt at a sideswept fringe)...

However

I have put a fair bit of weight on the last year or two which I'm trying to shift, and it really shows in my face. AIBU to photoshop out my hint of puffy chin, especially as I intend to rectify the situation long before I need to renew the passport again? This could be the last time I have a passport before I start looking like an old crone- I know it's vain, but is a bit of tweaking unreasonable?

I have no idea whether it is illegal or not, but it sounds like something that would be illegal!

thumbwitch · 26/09/2009 17:38

Almost certainly illegal!
buy I understand your pain...

TheArmadillo · 26/09/2009 17:39

YABU

It's supposed to be what you look like not what you wish you looked like

also pretty sure it would be illegal.

ramonaquimby · 26/09/2009 17:39

just have the pics done again?

HeadFairy · 26/09/2009 17:40

Very illegal.. I might see if I can get away with a picture of Alexa Chung next time I renew!

fruitshootsandheaves · 26/09/2009 17:40

tie your hair up really tightly on top of your head.

TheHeadbangingWombat · 26/09/2009 17:41

YABU.

HeadFairy · 26/09/2009 17:41

You could "lose" your passport, or put it through the washing machine when you want to change the picture, however you'll have to pay again for a new one.

thumbwitch · 26/09/2009 17:43

pmsl at Fruitshoot...

The rules governing passport photos are pretty strict now; not even sure you could use one that has been home-printed.

TheHeadbangingWombat · 26/09/2009 17:47

As Michael McIntyre says...

SoupDragon · 26/09/2009 17:48

I photoshopped the scar on DS2's head from a vivid red to something less noticeable. I then had it professionally printed. It was fine.

I don't think this is as bad as editing out an extra chin though.

EvilEdnasTwinSister · 26/09/2009 17:48

Unfortunately, I think it is illegal, but if not I would definitely change my photo (I look like an extra from Bad Girls) haha

Tee2072 · 26/09/2009 17:49

You cannot use a photo that is home printed, you certainly can't use one that's Photoshopped. It will not be accepted.

From the website for passports:

"Digital enhancement is not acceptable as this can result in the capture of an inaccurate biometric."

Shame though.

BitOfFun · 26/09/2009 17:53

pmsl at the Michael McIntyre link

TrillianAstra · 26/09/2009 17:56

Ridiculously vain. eveyone looks shit in passport photos, why should you be any different?

StrictlySazz · 26/09/2009 17:56

Not sure there are any chin biometrics though

Oh, and i have printed all my passport pics and dc's pics at home

GotABitFat · 26/09/2009 17:59

No chin biometrics, you say? Hmm...

OP posts:
StrictlySazz · 26/09/2009 18:00

None whatsover, as decreed by the Department of Official Chin measuring no less

TellAnyone · 26/09/2009 18:04

You could get into so much trouble. Passports are government property. Doctoring your photo ammounts to vandalising government property.

I really don't think it's worth it, do you?

Measures Shiney's chin

groundhogs · 26/09/2009 18:13

I read somewhere that Charlize Theron has a picture of herself playing her character in 'Monster' in her passport...
