to think that the BBC have made a big mistake with Alesha Dixon?

Because she is absolutely rubbish and does not give anything to Strictly

Bring back Arlene

YANBU - it was a huge mistake. There was no rational reason for removing Arlene, she knew what she was talking about and was entertaining. Alesha tries desperately to think up technical points but she just does not have the knowledge or experience to give a real judgement other than whether or not she liked the dances. She really does not fit in as a judge. Very poor decision-making from the Beeb.

MPearl · 26/09/2009 10:26

I dont watch the programme - never have. But what I object to is the BBC using my licence fee to pay people over £100k for commercial programmes which do not appeal to everyone.... but I guess thats a whole new subject...

VinegarTits · 26/09/2009 10:45

arf at people boycotting strictly because of this, its just another shite TV program at the end of the day

wannaBe · 26/09/2009 10:55

The bbc haven't made a mistake at all - they deliberately make these decisions because they know that strictly will never get the sort of audience ratings that x factor does. So they have to make controvercial decisions so that the programme gets more media coverage and thus more people tune in to see what the fuss is all about.

I never got the point of the programme in the first place - just a bunch of celebs needing a career boost - it's hardly serious competition.

VinegarTits · 26/09/2009 11:02

I agree with you wannabe (for once! ) and it has aslo made Arlene a house hold name, where as before she was just that judge of that dancing program, so i dont feel sorry for her one bit

sockmonkey · 26/09/2009 11:30

I think she did a lot better this week and I'm willing to give her a chance.
I only really watch for the dresses anyway. The ones this week were a vast improvement. I thought maybe the beeb had cut the costume budget and were having to make do with off cuts and scraps.

spacedog · 26/09/2009 11:38

YANBU, it was a poor error of judgement on bahalf of the Beeb. I also agree with one of the previous posts that she would have made a good replacement for Tess (dead behind the eyes) Daly. An even better replacement for Tess would have been Claudia Winkleman (who is fab and would have managed a bit of banter with Bruce).

pollywobbledoodle · 26/09/2009 11:44

Bah humbug!
Lay off her, she's going to be fine if she sticks to talking about the impact of the performance and giving hints about technique and performance based on her own experience...

i for one don't want an Arlene-type curling my toes with her embarrassing sexual innuendo and crap alliteration

GypsyMoth · 26/09/2009 11:50

Alesha doesn't even know what the whisk is. she has no knowledge of tecnicality, and no knowledge of body alignment.

me and my dad both try and boycott it now. he's an ex british champ and now teachs, has doen for years,so i grew up with it all. but really, what does she know? it took years of practice for my mum and dad to work up the ranks, not to mention all the money involved, and Alesha just waltzes in and is made to judge others?

Len Goodman was the adjudicator when i took my gold medal!! i danced it with my dad and got a highly commended off him.

we still watch it though...

AliGrylls · 26/09/2009 11:54

Who is she anyway? What is she famous for?

Nothing like Danni Minogue - at least she has had a career in music (judging from posts here Alesha has nothing to do with dancing at all)

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor · 26/09/2009 11:56

Never mind Aleesha, Craig was being nice and encouraging and calling people Darling.

poshsinglemum · 26/09/2009 12:59

YANBU- The BBC really needs to review how it treats older women. There is no place for such discrimination in this day and age.

cornsilk · 26/09/2009 13:20

I think Danni is great on x-factor.

wannaBe · 26/09/2009 13:24

but why do people care? Seriously - it's not a serious dancing competition, it's a bunch of semi-famous people wanting a bit more limelight.

SardineQueen · 26/09/2009 13:42

It's a program that a lot of people look forward to after a day manhandling babies and toddlers. Bit of glamour to take an edge off "poo come out" and sick and washing etc.

It's annoying that the BBC have chucked off an older experienced entertaining judge in favour of someone who is not experienced or expert but is younger and prettier.

She is not as entertaining as Arlene as far as I can see.

It's something to dither on about on MN.

It's something to dither on about in RL as you have little else to dither on about due to spending all time with said baby and toddler....

Will that do?

AvrilH · 26/09/2009 13:49

It can be a lovely thing to watch, it can be an amusing thing to watch. It is often boring. It is the one thing all the mothers at toddler and baby groups have in common besides the developmental progress of their dc. So makes for easy small talk.

But I can't imagine how boring it must be, if you can't see the dancing.

Sunshinemambo · 26/09/2009 13:56

YANBU lovely girl, terrible judge. No authority whatsoever. I miss Arlene flirting with the younger men and being really strict.

Nancy66 · 26/09/2009 14:04

I think she was a lot better last night. As another poster said, she'd obviously been given very heavily coached since last week.

I remember the very first time Gary Lineker presented Match of the Day and he was awful -I mean, really absolutely terrible. Now, I think he's a very good, polished presenter.
Admittedly he was anchoring a show and Alesha has only got to find 15 seconds worth of punchy words - but I think she'll keep improving and she needs to be given another couple of weeks before she's written off.

SardineQueen · 26/09/2009 14:45

Plus Gary Linekar as far as i understand it had a good knowledge and some experience of playing the game of football, IIRC to quite a high level.

Whereas the new judge isn't an experienced professional dancer. So she can't really be able to pick up the same nuances as the people who really know their stuff.

JeMenFous · 26/09/2009 22:17

She was just as rubbish this evening, there was a point tonight when she made a comment and Len's face was a picture - give me strength kind of look!

OP posts:
Beveridge · 26/09/2009 22:28

Arlene rocked - always harsh but accurate. Alesha would actually make a good presenter as she's great with the fluffy stuff but have no idea why the BBC thought this would work - after all, she was only the best dancer out of 16 people and she only did it for a few months!!!!

Also can't believe that they have Darcy Bussell and Karen Hardy in the audience and hardly give them the time of day when it comes to seeking opinions! What a waste!

I thought she was slightly better last night but I still think that although she delivers her lines with great confidence, she really doesn't know what she's talking about.

theworldsgoneDMmad · 27/09/2009 09:44

What are you talking about? I LOVE Bruno!

IloveTiffany - wow! You should be very proud of yourself and your folks. I would be

LadyoftheBathtub · 27/09/2009 09:48

I don't watch it much, but saw a bit last night and she was dull. But I think it's a good thing that this has made it so very obvious that a younger, shinier woman doesn't automatically have to better than the quality older one. I hope they learn their lesson.
