To treat certain pedestrians in this way?

You know when a pedestrian crosses in front of your car when they really don't have much time to do so (because you're driving towards that bit of road!), but instead of hurrying across, they strut/meander as if they have all the time in the world? I'm talking about teenagers usually, who seem to me to be doing this with "attitude" and just expect me to slow down/stop until they've ambled across.

Well, I've started spraying them with my windscreen wash.
AIBU?

Well Riven, I've specially adapted the squirters. Not really, the spray just sort of goes in the air and if you time it right you can ensure some will land on them. (Takes a bit of practice.)

And I'm not talking about anyone who is having trouble crossing. They are definitely doing it deliberately.

if it wasn't dark i'd go out and play with my squirters

Ponders · 31/08/2009 20:34

"some of us are a bit crap in the leg department you know. Not being slow deliberatly"

oh Riven, you know what I mean - there is a difference between someone who is "a bit crap in the leg department" & a group of 3 or 4 scruffy teenagers who set off from the kerb at the very slowest possible rate as a car approaches!

sherby · 31/08/2009 20:35

lol at actually ADJUSTING your squirters

you put some thought behind this didn't you

BosomForAPillow · 31/08/2009 20:46

Hee hee, I haven't really adjusted them but Doodlez got me thinking.

I like the "Bus Wankers" link, reminds me of Withnail shouting "SCRUBBERS!" out the window as they set off on holiday.

Turns out that the pedestrian having right of way is only in my head, although I still like it as a rule of thumb.

You must know in your heart of hearts that the squirting thing is nasty and not something to be proud of. Imagine doing it person-to-person without the protection of your car. Are you seriously debating whether or not this is reasonable, or were you just feeling gleeful at having thought it up?

screamingabdab · 31/08/2009 20:50

Nah, not really. Just wanted to tell that story

sherby · 31/08/2009 21:36

lol

SomeGuy · 31/08/2009 21:38

pedetrians have the right of the way when they are crossing the road that a car is turning into.

Otherwise there is a certain breed of pedestrian that likes to annoy drivers.

I have seen people literally jumping in front of cars, running from one of the side of the road to the other and back again to impress their mates, lots of idiots on mobile phones/ipods completely oblivious.

Obviously there are little old ladies that take about an hour to cross the road, but the pedestrians with attitude tend to be pretty scummy IME - they have attitude towards everyone and everything. A good squirt would be well-deserved.

Hassled · 31/08/2009 21:57

IME it is men of between 50 and 60 who do the nonchalant, slow, dangerous road crossing the best. They saunter, and really don't give a fuck. Much more annoying than teenagers with attitude.

YAB widly, wildy U

Get a grip

mazzystartled · 31/08/2009 22:04

wildly, wildly

ElieRM · 31/08/2009 22:06

Deliberately holding someone up jsut for the hell of it is discourteous (sp?) and rather antisocial. But squirting people with water is even more so.
Two wrongs and all of that..

Ponders · 31/08/2009 22:08

I don't squirt.

I do go perilously close to their legs though (and also hoot at the last minute, obv)

Is that "even more discourteous?" (if it is I don't care, frankly. just asking )

edam · 31/08/2009 22:11

What a real charmer you are, BFAP.

Thing is, one day you'll try it with someone who has real attitude, and you'll get your wing mirror snapped off, or worse.

edam · 31/08/2009 22:12

Ponders! You've always struck me as quite a reasonable person...

ElieRM · 31/08/2009 22:15

Ponders- Dunno. But it's not very nice.

laloue · 31/08/2009 22:16

for smell add thai fish sauce...won't tell how i know it works...

SomeGuy · 31/08/2009 22:17

meh, a pedestrian really is in a not in a position to try it on with a car. Just not an equal match. Some of the cocky fuckers who seem not to believe it could use the lesson.

Ponders · 31/08/2009 22:20

sorry, edam

NB I wouldn't dream of actually hurting any of them - would just hope to make them think it's not a good idea.

I mean they are gambling on every driver actually being 100% alert & knowing they're right there...& everybody isn't, IME

BosomForAPillow · 31/08/2009 22:20

Ponders - I was wondering if hooting is seen as more reasonable. I could always go back to just having a good hoot. It makes me feel a bit silly though, whereas the squirting feels...so good!

x-post Ponders and Someguy. Yes, it's teaching them something. I don't think honking the horn has the same impact.

edam · 31/08/2009 22:28

Ponders, I know that one from bitter experience. Some cock who wasn't looking where he was going ran me over when I was waiting to cross. I was on the kerb, but the whole corner was dropped, so instead of clipping the kerb, he clipped me. Threw me about 15 feet along the road. I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time.

Tosser was looking right and moved into the gap without looking left, or steering accurately.

So please don't go giving pedestrians a hard time, there are plenty of idiots already on that mission.

Btw, even if you are just pulling away, it is amazing how much damage a moving car can do to a human being.

edam · 31/08/2009 22:30

(ds was absolutely fine, though, no thanks to Mr tosser/uninsured/tell you what, I'll get some insurance if you agree to pretend the accident happened the day after I phone them.)

Ponders · 31/08/2009 22:31

edam

NB I like to think I am always paying attention - at least I haven't hit anybody yet, in over 35 years driving.

But you can't defend people who deliberately walk in front of oncoming traffic because of what happened to you!
