Failed miserably & I'm Scottish/British born & bred - know nothing about church of England or 'Irish Scots'. Does having this knowledge make someone a good citizen? A valuable member of the community? What a load of absolute bollocks.

funtimewincies · 07/08/2009 20:40

One of the questions had 'D' as the right answer. Funny, but I was only given options A, B and C to choose from !

Trashbat · 07/08/2009 20:47

funtimewincies, your DH is right; that site doesn't appear to be 'genuine'. For a start it's not a gov.uk (all govt things are), it's a co.uk, so for all you know I could have set it up myself and plucked those questions out of the air (including the links to my online bookshop, of course). It actually says that these are not real test questions. There's no indication on that site of who owns it or set it up. There doesn't seem to be a link to it from the real government site about the test, which is here www.lifeintheuktest.gov.uk.

Calling it the 'Official Practice Citizenship Test' tries to make it seem 'genuine', but 'official' is a meaningless word in this context. I could call myself the Official Mumsnet Farthead, but it doesn't actually make it true. So in relation to this 'sample test', there's not much to get too outraged about! Therefore OP, YABU .

I got 10. I should emigrate, clearly.

Meglet · 07/08/2009 21:10

I got 15 (63%).

Pretty irrelevant questions IMO.

lemonstartree · 07/08/2009 21:13

I got 12, what a fucking joke ! ( I failed !!! )

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 07/08/2009 22:12

13 out of 24, also British born and bred. Utter bollocks.

Linnet · 07/08/2009 22:31

Do people aged 18 and under not get free prescriptions? I thought they did.

I failed got 12/24, wonder if any other countries would take me since I'm clearly not fit to live here, lol

bronze · 07/08/2009 22:37

British born and bred
13right. I suspect I guessed well on most of those too.

Ok theres lots of odd ones but I'm more annoyed by why the hell do I need to know speed limits (I did) I don't drive so duel carriageways have nothing to do with me

islandofsodor · 09/08/2009 21:05

No Linnet, only those in full time education after age 16.

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 10/08/2009 08:54

Whois suggest that the site is owned by The Stationery Office Limited. According to their website "TSO was privatised from HMSO in 1996".

Digging through Amazon shows TSO actually publish the official Home Office guides, so it really is genuine. It's not just some random teenager making this stuff up.

karala · 10/08/2009 09:18

I failed too - am British, read the Gruaniad and Torygraph, listen to R4. These questions are ridiculous. I apologise to everyone who is expected to go through this charade in order to get citizenship
