To buy school tops in the wrong colour

katiestar · 27/07/2009 19:51

Our state primary school stipulates either the school sweatshirt which is bright red or bright red jumper / cardi with grey skirt/ pinafore.
I have bought my DDs dark grey cardigans to go back to school in for the following reasons.
1 They always get stained because the school doesn't have enough whiteboard markers so children have to use their hands , which inevitably ends up on their top.

2 Only buy uniform from M&S and their stocks were decimated , but had grey in every size.

3 Won't look too diffreent colour-wise from those wearing a pinafore.

3 Am really pissed off at the school who have agreed to be my placement school for a course I have been doing , but failed to return some paperwork in time for the deadline so I have wasted £200 and many hours for nothing. Not really relevant to the school tops but indicative of my feelings to the school.

5 MOST IMPORTANTLY looks lovely against their long pale blonde hair

Seeker4 -where di I say that I taught them it was the most important thing in life ? I haven't even told them that I think grey looks better on them .Just proudly thought it to myself.

yabu.i moved secondary schools in my 2nd year,i had to wear my old blue skirt to a school where every one else wore green-i got bullied, stupid i know but thats what dc are like.

my dc school uniform is red.they dont get stained, they get marks and i wash them.

i have some spare red cardigans if you would like them.it might be easier than singling out your 2 dd just because you cannot abide by simple rules.as for 'But why should we respect rules' do you have any rules at home?as in dont stand on the chair,no drawing on walls etc?-why should your dc respect your rules?

TrinityRhinoIsInDetention · 27/07/2009 22:05

true greeny but the reasons for not respecting the rules (that I beleive are set for good reason) are crap quite frankly

oooh look good and I cant be arsed to shop around

katiestar · 27/07/2009 22:06

Lyra I'm pretty sure the school know I have chosen the uniform not them and I am therefore ' the rule challenger.'

Are red tops more stainable than blue? DSs wear blue and I don't have a staining problem.

LyraSilvertongue · 27/07/2009 22:06

The school may know that but the other children won't.

mememememeitsallaboutme · 27/07/2009 22:08

I'm not sure why you've started this thread tbh. You know you are being pathetic unreasonable.

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/07/2009 22:08

Katiestar you sound up your own arse, and also sound like you have put more thought into the uniform than is normal.
Get out more, or join a commune.

seeker · 27/07/2009 22:10

It's nto fair to make choices like this on behalf of children. If they want to subvert the uniform than let them. Doing it for them takes away their voice in the matter.

LyraSilvertongue · 27/07/2009 22:10

I think you sound quite immature, myself...

mememememeitsallaboutme · 27/07/2009 22:10

I hope your dd's pick on a rule you have at home, one that they feel is inappropriate and blatantly ignore it. After all, they'd only be following their Mother's example, wouldn't they?!.

katiestar · 27/07/2009 22:10

'my dc school uniform is red.they dont get stained, they get marks and i wash them.

AAh that must be where I am going wrong !!!
Tou're meant to wash them ???

stickylittlefingers · 27/07/2009 22:11

if you don't agree with the uniform, take it up with the governors. Don't send your dds over the top while you crouch in the trenches. It's cowardice and really not a good example.

katie, I applaud your good humour in the face of all this opposition

you have made your mind up, why ask ?

MaureenMLove · 27/07/2009 22:18

One important thing you seem to have over looked. No matter what colour your lo's wear to school, they will end up dirty, stained or ruined, due to the fact that they are children!

SoccerMum · 27/07/2009 22:18

TBH, I think that your one woman protest against the colour red is more than likely symptomatic of the reason they fecked up your paperwork.

Not exactly the type of attitude they will be wanting working in their school!

katiestar · 27/07/2009 22:19

I really think some of these replies are ridiculous.Would you really care if a child in your DC's form had a grey top instaed of a red one ? Would you care if you were a teacher . If so, why ?

Why does wanting a better looking, more practical top for my dds make me up my own arse ? I thought the whole point of clothes was to be practical and aestetically pleasing. And the point of school uniform to stop one-upmanship against kids with less expensive clothing. We are talking about a plain grey cardigan which cost less than a tenner. Hardly offensive to anyone

Soccermum-Its a module on child development and psychology course , which has to include x hours in an educational setting.

OP posts:
SoccerMum · 27/07/2009 22:22

I think its the message it sends out ''I dont give a stuff about your rules, im going to do my own thing''

My 2 wear chocolate brown and gold, hardly pretty or attractive, actually its vile, but I knew that when I chose to send them to that school. If I wanted them to wear red, I would have sent them to the other school locally with the nice red and grey uniform!

cheesesarnie · 27/07/2009 22:22

so you are not interested in the red cardigans i kindly offered you then?

what type of placement were you going for at the school just out of interest?

SoccerMum · 27/07/2009 22:23

Katiestar - it doesnt matter how relevant your course is and how hands on/off it will be, if you are battling them over a cardigan you cant expect them to be bending over backwards to support you.

I hate our uniform, tough shit on me!

KingCanuteIAm · 27/07/2009 22:24

Lol at stopping one-up-manship - you are doing it so they have clothes that suit them better, to make them look better (IYO) - making them look better than others in their class.... how is that not one-up-manship?

katiestar · 27/07/2009 22:26

ROFL Lockets - Good point, well made !

As someone said I have already made up my mind ,so I probably was being unreasonable to ask if I was being unreasonable.
bought them and don't know what I have done with the receipt so haver made up my mind.If they don't like them then will be undeer no pressure from me to wear them , but I think quirky DD1 loves to be a bit different so she will do
Anyway thanks to everyone for their many and varied comments
