I know IABU, but I can't bear it. It cost £60 and I agonised before deciding to let him have it and only then because he has diabetes and therefore needs a phone more than most.

He didn't break it btw. His brother did.

the company will probably replace it and may even pay the postage.

roneef · 23/07/2009 21:16

What's a namechanger?

Sorry I don't meet your standards though fish..

Will try to be more jolly

Actually 99% time I'm cool. Am a bit blunt occasionally.

fishie · 23/07/2009 21:19

a namechanger is someone who uses an alias for various purposes, to keep themselves anonymous on a particular subject, to make mischief or to keep their original name 'clean'.

have you got an alter ego is my question really roneef.

roneef · 23/07/2009 21:22

Oh i get it now

No. You can check, if there's a way or ask MN.

I really wouldn't know how!!!

I'm ALWAYS like this.

fishie · 23/07/2009 21:27

didn't intend to give you the third degree roneef, just wondered.

it must be tiring!

TheVenerableUponHighGoat · 23/07/2009 21:29

i am with expat - tis thieving.

and don't go on aibu if you are going to get all hmmm on folk

noddyholder · 23/07/2009 21:44

God what a nightmare ds is dyspraxic and always breaking new things its heartbreaking when it is so expensive! Ring tell the truth that you don't know what happened as you let him open it and see if they take pity.don't lie though however tempting as it will bug you.

noddyholder · 23/07/2009 21:45

i think thieving is a bit strong in this instance!

mumeeee · 23/07/2009 21:49

How craked is the screen? If it isn't to bad just make jhim use it like that.

SoupDragon · 23/07/2009 21:51

They can't have just dropped it - I've driven off with mine on the roof of my car, left it in the road for a good few hours and it's still been fine!

TheLadyEvenstar · 23/07/2009 22:08

My samsung has been stood on chucked across the room, drowned in milk, chucked on again, put in drier (ok not for long i realised!!!) along with numerous other things demon ds2 can manage to do with it at 21m...and it still works perfectly not a crack on it.

I am pretty sure it was more than just dropped.

TheVenerableUponHighGoat · 23/07/2009 23:37

och noddy - it is aibu, tis compulsory to wave pitchforks and use strong language

Pinkmist · 23/07/2009 23:49

iWork in a phone shop, and sorry to say, all phones are checked before being boxed. Theyare well protected so doubtful they will believe you. The not fit for purpose thing won't wash, all lcds are delicate. You wouldn't drop your tvand say it wasn't fit for purpose when it brakes. There not made to he dropped.
They will advise you to letthem repair it, and for a new LCD, your looking upwards of £60.
Sorry, but I deal with people every week claiming I should give them a new phone cause they dropped theirs. And then shout at me when I explain it doesn't work that way!

What purpose though? Phoning, texting or being dropped?

VelvetPlum · 24/07/2009 00:01

Yup, send it back.

PrincessLayer · 24/07/2009 00:15

If I was being a bit dishonest I would ask: Did it a) come in a box and the box was delivered in a plastic bag? Or was it b) boxed and delivered in another box with loads of packaging

If the answer is a), then stomp on the box and say it was damaged in transit.

Of course I would never ever do that myself.
(And nor have I done...it was just an idea)

roneef · 24/07/2009 13:46

Hi Shine!!

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/07/2009 14:00

Roneef - don't need to calm down, don't think you have been sharp or blunt, tbh.

Persona;;y would call the phone company and tell them the truth, say you have had it out the box 10 minutes, dropped it and the screen is completely duff, and see what they say.

I couldn't lie, I would feel guilty (plus am very unconvincing liar anyway).

funkybuddah · 24/07/2009 15:46

it is fit for purpose, someone dropped it, that is not a manufacturing fault!

Woudl you expect to drop a tv and still expect it to work? the number of you saying that you have dropped yours etc means bobbins it depends on where it falls dependant on the model of the phone as each phone will have different 'vulnerable' points.

you can try and send it back and get a new one but please do not believe that it is the manufacturers fault, it really isnt
