If I heard a toddler talking about her vulva I think I would fall through the floor! Lol at grand canyon and eiffel tower!

gingermumi · 21/07/2009 10:41

I agree that what ever we call our genitlia it should be done without embarassment and that teachers should educate using appropriate terminology but also say something that covers the euphemisms to avoid confusion and upset, especially for young ones.

pranma · 21/07/2009 10:41

gingermumi · 21/07/2009 10:43

monkeyfacegrace · 21/07/2009 10:45

monkeyfacegrace · 21/07/2009 10:45

But we have a lovely home honest

TheFallenMadonna · 21/07/2009 10:47

Mind you, I was talking to another science (physics ) teacher about how we were going to teach sex ed in PDLS, and he wasn't sure whether it would be appropriate to use the word 'vulva' even in that context. And with year 9

gingermumi · 21/07/2009 10:48

i hate the word guff it takes me back to horrid boys at school!

WreckOfTheHesperus · 21/07/2009 10:50

In a house with all girls we grew up saying "between your legs", e.g. "make sure that you wash between your legs", - I still prefer the geographic approach now - it's helpful, non-clinical, and non-twee.

pagwatch · 21/07/2009 10:55

bloody nora
deja vu....

YOU may regard 'bits' as dismissive and distasteful etc etc but I don't think it sounds dismissive at all. My DD is very proud of her body and feels her 'bitsies' are far superior to her brothers' willies. But then she has watched very little Les Dawson related humour. And she knows all the correct terms and has done for years. She has chosen which term she wants to use.

She is however a little envious that willies 'dance' when the boys laugh - apparently .

steph007 · 21/07/2009 10:58

I've got a quick question on this if anyone can help... about to call health visitor as my 2 year old has had red sore 'bits' for quite a few days now - it's only at the 'front bottom' and it's not nappy rash... but how do I explain this on the phone??!!! Do I say she has a red vulva??! Anything I can think of sounds weird to me

gingermumi · 21/07/2009 11:03

Go with what ever you feel comfortable saying, i'm sure the hv has heard all we've come up with and more!

seeker · 21/07/2009 11:13

Sorry - pagwatch. I was just chatting - didn't mean to get your goat!

pagwatch · 21/07/2009 11:28

not goaty Seeker. My post sounds grumpy - sorry about that! It was smilier in my head .

( the laughing willy thing always makes me laugh as she does an impersonation of a laughing willy and it is always James Mason)
