To think this sort of dogging is just not on

I opened my bedroom curtains this morning to see two cars pull up at village hall opposite, both with large fitted dog crates in the back. Though nothing of it to begin with as they do hold dog shows there sometimes. Looked back a short while later to see 2 females standing by as male assisted 2 boxer dogs to mate, followed by frantic doggie humping in full view of public - including children walking to village shop. Male then held both dogs whilst they were "tied" and I went over to ask if they had permission to be through the gate on the village hall lawn - they said they didn't need it and when I took their registration numbers to report them the rather posh looking middle aged lady, who seemed to own the bitch swore at me and told me to get a sex life!! This was obviously a commercial transaction and I really can't understand why they would want to conduct it in such a way, wouldn't have been offended by a couple of strays having a bonk but this made me really cross.

Lol at Hotel For Dogs

pinkspottywellies · 19/07/2009 23:07

Sorry if I'm being thick but what is the 'tied' bit about? I daren't google about mating dogs!

shouldweorshouldntwe · 19/07/2009 23:14

Pink - I wondered this and also didnt dare google it in case anyone else in the house found out and thought i'd gone barking!

zippy539 · 19/07/2009 23:17

YANBU. Last time I opened my blinds on a Sunday morning it was to see two HUMANS humping on the steps of the flat opposite - 7.30am, broad daylight, city centre street. They'd obviously been out all night and lost track of the fact that it was morning.

Ahhh the joys of youth...

Ripeberry · 19/07/2009 23:26

The owner of the Bitch fancied the dog? Ooh, i am naughty!

booyhoo · 19/07/2009 23:27

tied?

LaurieFairyCake · 19/07/2009 23:29

The problem I have with it is that they are tied together and the female gets distressed and wants to get away.

This is solely for the purpose of commerce.

If a dog fancied a random fuck or was encouraged to mate more leisurely perhaps with some Scooby snacks at hand I wouldn't have a problem.

booyhoo · 19/07/2009 23:32

they tie the dogs together? in position?

LaurieFairyCake · 19/07/2009 23:33

Yep, to make sure the spunk hits the cervix and doesn't escape or gets licked away.

And obviously it costs more for repeat visits hence they tie the poor buggers.

shouldweorshouldntwe · 19/07/2009 23:34

OMG This sounds so cruel.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 19/07/2009 23:38

Oh stop it, Laurie! No-one physically ties dogs together, but dogs have a bone in their penis, and after mating it takes a while for his erection to subside. So the penis remains inside the bitch, and the two are "tied" thus. They usually end up looking in opposite directions, and rather bored, but it's just part of the process.

Natural, not cruel.

fruitshootsandheaves · 19/07/2009 23:39

the tie isn't about tying dogs together

When mating the male dog swells up and gets stuck in the bitch and they are stuck together called 'the tie'. lasts for about 3-30 minutes and it is a perfectly normal part of dog mating if dogs don't 'tie' the mating is not likely to be successful. Looks odd though as they are bum to bum for a while and the bitch often whines alot.

fruitshootsandheaves · 19/07/2009 23:40

oh cross posts but oldlady described it much better!

Pan · 19/07/2009 23:40

That sort of dogging is just not on.

The other sort is fine and should be encouraged.

booyhoo · 19/07/2009 23:41

bum to bum? does that not hurt the dog?, im sur im imagining this wrong

LaurieFairyCake · 19/07/2009 23:43

thought I'd get figured out on the "Scooby snacks"

shouldweorshouldntwe · 19/07/2009 23:45

Surely then the dogs old man will then be twisted right round. How painful.

fruitshootsandheaves · 19/07/2009 23:45

LOL
sometimes the bitch will panic a bit and someone has to hold her to calm her and to stop her panicking and hurting the male but they often just stand there looking a bit bored (and in opposite directions!) for 20 minutes.

fruitshootsandheaves · 19/07/2009 23:47

crikey I sound like a breeder!

I only know this as my 2 dogs used to 'tie' together even thou the male dog had been neutered.

booyhoo · 19/07/2009 23:48

fruitshoot does it not hurt the dog? to be bum to bum i mean?

fruitshootsandheaves · 19/07/2009 23:53

Its hard to know whether it hurts or whether they just panic a bit because they can't get away. It looks as though it would hurt the dog more which is why you need to keep them calm and you mustn't try to separate them.

booyhoo · 19/07/2009 23:58

if what im imagining is right, the male must be quite bendy? his penis i mean.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 20/07/2009 00:12

I can't describe what's happening physically/internally, but I'm guessing it doesn't hurt (or at any rate, not much) because it certainly doesn't put them off trying again. And honestly, mostly they just look bored and mildly embarrassed.

springlamb · 20/07/2009 09:18

Sorry to carry this on as obviously some of you are at some aspects of dog mating!
The 'tie' must be allowed to end naturally as to forcibly end it will cause pain to both dogs.
So there's an animal welfare issue to having them mate in a village hall car park - suppose the caretaker/warden/police came along and they were told to move on NOW.
Also, very dodgy from a breeding pov - the bitch's owner may think she's mating her to a dog with credentials and therefore the pups will be worth big money but really it could be any dog with any health problem.

Pikelit · 20/07/2009 10:26

Noel Coward had the right explanation when a small child enquired about similar activities:

"The little doggie at the front has suddenly gone blind and his friend is kindly pushing him to St. Dunstans."

(Actually, as someone whose dog makes pups from time to time, it isn't an activity I'd want to supervise in public. But then I may be equally unreasonable in expecting casual callers to the house to "ignore those dogs having sex".)
