To wish MIL would stop going on about dd's blue eyes?

Dh and I both have dark hair and dark eyes. Ds has dark (ish - will probably get darker as he gets older) hair and dark eyes, and is the spitting image of his father, only more handsome, obviously.

Dd OTOH is a reddish blonde with blue eyes. She is utterly gorgeous (but then I would say that) but looks nothing like me or dh. Which, you know, is fine. But MIL is obsessed with her eye colour and keeps saying stuff like, "Ooh, if she keeps that colouring she'll be a stunner!" WTF? She'll be a stunner anyway you mad cow! Stop banging on about it, it doesn't matter what colour her eyes are!

I suppose I would be less irate if she'd said it once but she says it Every Fucking Time we see her (about twice a month). It's wearing, to say the least.

I would gladly swap MILs with the OP. She sounds like a dream compared to mine

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 15/07/2009 09:17

Aww, she's not bad really. She means well. She is a bit nuts in other ways though - threatened to disinherit dh over our wedding etc.

My sense of humour appears to be intact, thanks for your concern! Though your OP seemed to be a peevish whinge about a well-meaning family member rather than a funny joke, so I posted accordingly (this being "AIBU", after all...)- sorry if I missed something.

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 15/07/2009 10:03

Ah. You didn't read the whole thread then.

lol that's gotta be quote of the week!

I didn't much like my baby boy being constantly referred to as a "pork chop" by my MIL - he wasn't fat, he wasn't chop shaped, I couldn't see why but it annoyed the hell out of me! Especially as she and DH share a trait of repeating something ad nauseam (mine) until I am in danger of screaming.

kellbell · 15/07/2009 22:36

I must say I do think this thread is juat a tad self-indulgant. It's a bit of a non thread really - after all the OP hasn't really got an issue with the MIL's comments at all. I mean, who would see much wrong in a loving, doting granny finding her grand daughter gorgeous and saying so each time she sees her?

It's hardly an AIBU topic, and if the OP was looking for an answer to that question I'd say, yes and a bit silly to boot. If it was intended as a funny/jokey thing, wouldn't this thread be better placed in the "chat" section?

nope - lighthearted AIBUs are always a bit of a relief in amongst all the heavy duty stuff.

misdee · 15/07/2009 22:42

When ds1 was born, MIL came to the hospital to visit her first grand-child.

She stood at the end of my bed and peered down at ds and said in her clipped tone

"Well, he doesn't look like one of OURS"

edam · 15/07/2009 22:52

Did you purse your lips as you typed that, kellbell? And what's with the 'must' - you chose to say it, no-one forced you. Dryads's been here many years, I don't think she needs any advice about how to use MN.

Anyhow, Dryad, your two are both gorgeous of course.

I'm still not quite over my surprise at having a blue-eyed blond boy, even though he'll be six on Saturday. Darn MIL and her Dutch genes, coming from a family of brown haired, brown eyed people I was so SURE my genes would win out!

chegirl · 15/07/2009 22:54

LOL at the amount of cliches in one sentence.

My kids are mixed race. DP is dark skinned (as in black but dark skinned black v light skinned). My babies have v.dark curly hair, dark skin and the bluest eyes you ever did see. People comment on it a lot. This is fine except DS2 has beautiful brown eyes. He is adopted so this marks him out a bit. He looks very like the other because he is biologically related. I dont think people would notice any difference if it wasnt for the eyes.

misdee · 15/07/2009 22:57

compare all various shades of brown eyed.

dd2 are the lightest brown

dd1 are a nice mid-brown

dd3, who i think is looking the other way, has almost black eyes.

so when dd4 opened her eys for the first time and had sparkly blues i was v v v shocked.

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 15/07/2009 23:02

Gosh, they are all gorgeous, misdee.
