My mil got wind of the fact that we were considering building a small (1mx2m) wendy house for dd1 in our small back garden. She then said her husband wanted to build us one, so we waited for a call only to be told they had brought one, they were cagey about it's dimensions and we found out last night (it was delivered this morning and they're driving down with it on Saturdar) that it's 8' by 6'4" and 6'6" high! To put that in perspective our garden is about 24' by 14'.
We've asked them if they can return it and they don't think they can, they're angry and hurt and feel we're being ungrateful and dd1 is goign to be gutted that no wendy house is going to materialise. Is it me or is this a complete no win situation?

Stealth my mum has got better now, i just tell her that because DD is our first we really enjoy going out to get these things for her, which i think she understands now. I do watch what i say though!

Such a difficult situation. My dd's dad (who is not my dp) only buys her things that are (a) expensive, (b) not educational, (c) get played with just the once, and (d) take up space in our small flat.

The latest was a life-size animatronic golden retriever. I nearly wept. dd couldn't be less interested.

brightonlad - yanbu, however, just think of the fun sleepovers in it your dd can have when she's a bit older.

my neice and nephew had quite a large playhouse in a small-ish garden, and it was used as a "clubhouse" for many years by lots of kids.

We have a playhouse in our garden that size and really it's not as big as it sounds.

The garden in our old house was about the size of yours and it really doesn't take up that much space. (we managed to get a 10 ft trampoline as well!!!)

in our current garden we could only have room for one or the othere, so have just taken down the trampoline after two years.

DD absoluteltly loves her house as she can have her friends in to play whenever she likes and if its raining they all pile in.

My older boys do sleepovers in the holidays is much better than a tent!!! (aged 13 and 10)

I agree Mil should have consulted you first before buying it...but if you could make room for it, it will last years so well worth the fun.

If you really dont want it explain to Mil That you really appreciate the thought but maybe see if you can exchange it for something smaller.
