You may as well go the whole hog and let them have a fruitshoot with it too?

there are fruitshoots and fruitshoot juice?

foxyiscuttingALLherhairoff · 07/07/2009 06:36

says here it is 10% fruit juice.

flamingobingo · 07/07/2009 07:07

the fruitshoots in mcdonalds are the crappy ones - believe me I know!

Mine prefer the 100% lard milkshakes

ilovesprouts · 07/07/2009 07:42

well my son loves fruit shoots ,so shoot me does not have mc ds /sausage rolls too often

Triggles · 07/07/2009 07:42

DS (2yo) won't drink the fruit shoots, he doesn't like them. He gets orange juice when we buy him a happy meal. But then he doesn't like chocolate either. Still trying to figure out where he gets THOSE genes from!

monkeypinkmonkey · 07/07/2009 07:57

In our house fruit shoots = redbull for kids.

MamaLazarou · 07/07/2009 07:58

Orange juice contains as much sugar as sweet soft drinks.

Triggles · 07/07/2009 08:10

ML - yup. But he likes it and drinks it - even if we do water it down. I don't get stressed over occasional treats - as long as they're just that "occasional" and not a daily diet of them.

FAQinglovely · 07/07/2009 08:15

fox - that is also a very old article -it's got the old packaging pictures for most of the stuff

ABetaDad · 07/07/2009 08:18

Well DSs now just stand outside McD making judgey comments. I can't think where they get that from.

Their school do feed them burger and fruitshoots though - and its fee paying!

drpepper · 07/07/2009 08:22

seriously.....i am 100% sure there are much worse things you could subject your kids to than the occassional fruit shoot ! i agree if it sends yours loopy don't bother but i have never had a problem with it, if and when we go to mcds my dd either has milkshake or fruit shoot, she chooses mcds as a treat so she gets to choose her own drink too !

DesperateHousewifeToo · 07/07/2009 08:28

I don't see the point of this thread, just because a parent never takes her children to Macdonald's does not make them a better parent than me - who's dcs occasionally go.

Again, an occasional fruit shoot does not hurt my dcs. Although, they also prefer the milkshakes these days.

(if anything, it makes me a better mother because dh takes them and I get an hours peace to regain some sanity)

proverbial · 07/07/2009 08:32

There are 2 dif products, fruitshoots, the regular ones, and fruitshoots juice which is 100% fruitjuice. Big difference. But MCD's, which were meant to have the juice ones, reverted back to the revolting ones after a trial.

We don't have them in Ireland though, the drinks on a happy meal are any of the soft drinks, pure tropicana, tropicana pure juice with water, water or organnic milk. So ner!

Hulababy · 07/07/2009 08:38

DD always has a fresh juice or an Innocent smoothie with her McD, as they are nicer than Fruitshoots.

Unless they have changed Fruitshoots have loads of sweetners in them, so not "just fruit juice" IMO. Also, have you tasted one? They are horrid! DD has had the odd one at parties, but they are just not nice. She would prefer water to a Fruitshoot having tried one.

Tp be fair we only go McD once every couple of months, when driving down to visit family or friends down south. We stop at one we pass part way into our journey. And I much prefer a quick McDs than messing about in a Little Chef, ect.

Hulababy · 07/07/2009 08:40

Fruitshoot at the McD we go to is not the 100% juice variety.

There's nothing wrong with the occasional McD's. But Fruitshoots are vile. And make ds go loopy - as does anything with aspartame/saccharin in.

It's the salt content in the fries which worries me, tbh, but as ds is now 2 and a half, I don't think I need to be quite so paranoid about his salt intake, do i? I do object to McD's on an ethical level, but come on - if you boycotted every company that was unethical then you'd never buy anything!!

SoupDragon · 07/07/2009 09:09

What is the point of going to McDs and not having a "milk" shake?

GooseyLoosey · 07/07/2009 09:13

I can't bear going to MacDs and will never be taking the dcs. I worked in one as a teenager for 4 years and even today, the smell evokes terrible memories (nothing to do with the food though so don't panic)!

gingernutlover · 07/07/2009 09:16

when I was a kid we used to have McDonalds Birthday Parties LOL can you imagine giving out those invitations now?

I don't have aproblem with either mcdonalds or fruitshoots on an occasional basis, and agree with whoever said that its no different to them going the pub for chicken nuggets and chips.

Hulababy · 07/07/2009 09:19

I didn't work for McD but I did do a couple of years, whilst at sixthf orm working at BurgerKing. I was the party hostess and used to run the parties spoken of Used to do 4 in a row in a Sunday - was a killer after a Saturday night out!!!

proverbial · 07/07/2009 09:25

You can ask for unsalted fries.

I think people are far too precious about McDonalds food. Its not half as bad as people like to make out, at least not any more. Vastly reduced salt and sugar in all products, 100% chicken/beef in relevant products, new non-hydrogenated vegetable oils, fruit bags and carrot sticks.
If you don't like it, don't go, simple enough. No reason to try and make other people bad, especially by making stuff up.

serenity · 07/07/2009 09:40

We still go to McDonalds for birthdays. DS1 went for a McD and the cinema last friday. DS1 and 2 are probably too old for the parties now, but I'd imagine DD will start getting invites soon. MN gives a slightly skewed version of RL

Hulababy · 07/07/2009 09:42

I got given unsalted fries once, earlier this year. Don't do it! They are just not the same at all! (and normally I don't add salt to anything)
