YABU - but I agree that it sucks and is very very hard. Don't take anything, it won't help.

Here is what I did: I watch my carbs closely, eat as much green stuff/fruit as I like and I work out 6 times a week minimum.

It is a huge PITA - but exercise really is the only way to get it off and keep it off and still be able to eat a good diet.

I know it can be hard to find the time to exercise but you just have to if you want to be healthy. There is no other option.

NervousNutty · 30/06/2009 13:22

Oh you have just read my mind Chevre.

YANBU, well ok, you are, as am I, but I totally get what you mean.

chevre · 30/06/2009 13:23

i do exercise, and i was doing reasonably well on teh eating front but i just hit a wall with the whole things and it just piles back on. you are right about the carbs thing. thanks.

sigh!

Not unreasonable but perhaps not realistic!

Speaking as a person who was pretty overweight at one point, one stone really isn't that much.

I'm not sure what your circumstances are but it could be possible to lose that weight if you upped your exercise a bit (ie did 3 x 30min proper walks a week) and cut out all the cake/biscuits etc.

I found it embarrassingly easy to lose weight that way at least in the beginning. But that may be a reflection on how much rubbish I was eating to start!

stillstanding · 30/06/2009 13:25

Have you thought about something like weightwatchers? I found that very useful and lost a stone in 8 weeks without much effort.

chevre · 30/06/2009 13:26

i run 3 or 4 times a week for an hour! it is testamount to my greed that i am still overweight.

i was doing really well on the cakes front but have had quite alot of stress lately and i have returned to my piglety ways

OP posts:
chevre · 30/06/2009 13:26

yes weightwatchers is good. i just hate the faff of having to work out stuff all the time. i think meal planning would be good.

TutTutter · 30/06/2009 13:27

simple rules

you need simple rules

i have just lost nearly two stones

  1. eat decent sized meals
  2. eat a really big breakfast
  3. no mid-morning snacking AT ALL
  4. snacks later = raw veg/fruit or nuts only
  5. no booze

ta daa

3 months = 22lbs = 8% body fat

muddleduck · 30/06/2009 13:27

portion size was the key for me.
use smaller plates!

ABetaDad · 30/06/2009 13:29

Stop eating bread, cakes, biscuits and replace with high uality natural foods such as nuts, fruit, smoothees, yoghurts,

I have just dropped 1 stone in 2 months and was not significantly overweight to start with.

chevre · 30/06/2009 13:30

if i use small plates i will just get v. good at balancing food!

meals are not my problem i just need to stop with the biscuits and stuff.

chevre - slimming world is fantastic. No measuring or counting any of your free foods if you follow the 'extra easy' plan. This includes lean meat, pasta, veg etc. Is brilliant!

12StoneNeedsToBe10 · 30/06/2009 13:30

If I'm at the stage where I need to lose weight quickly - and my head is actually in the right place, hence the MN-name - I find detox works without fail.

It's strict - only fresh food, no wheat, no meat (fish is allowed), no dairy, no alcohol (essentially absolutely NO CRAP whatsoever) and regular exercise - but the results are not just weight loss but fabulous skin, hair, nails, energy levels.

Actually - you may have just "pushed" me into getting my head in the right place...

NervousNutty · 30/06/2009 13:32

Food/wine is my only pleasure at the mo so I am finding it mega hard to cut down.

Carbs is my biggest problem.

Tidey · 30/06/2009 13:34

I've just been reading about Alli and Lipobind etc. Too good to be true. I'd rather be a bit fat than have anal leakage.

TutTutter · 30/06/2009 13:34

ime people fall into two camps:

the first are like my ILs. they are overweight because they really don't have a clue how to lose weight. they put sweeteners in their tea but still whack LOADS of butter on their toast. eat weetabix but then dollop loads of honey on top

then there are other people - most of us. we know what we SHOULD do - it aint rocket science after all - but have not the will power to do it

i are less and exercised more, and hey presto! i went from a 14 to a 10

TutTutter · 30/06/2009 13:35

ate less

MamaLazarou · 30/06/2009 13:35

Have you tried the Paul McKenna book and CD? That doesn't take any effort at all - I lost half a stone without noticing.

chevre · 30/06/2009 13:36

nutty it is a vicious circle, you say eating is your only pleasure but if you were slimmer and fitter you probably wouldn't feel that way.

OP posts:
NervousNutty · 30/06/2009 13:36

I am in the no willpower camp.

I know how to lose the weight, I just can't stick to it. Plus it doesn't help that I still can't use my wii fit because my blind for the living room window is still in it's box.

Bread is my biggest problem. I would sock if I said how many slices i can and have eaten in one day.

chevre · 30/06/2009 13:37

i was only joking about the fat shitting drug!

i do have paul mckenna but the cd makes me want to giggle. i will dig it out and try again

OP posts:
NervousNutty · 30/06/2009 13:37

Oh thats very true chevre. At the moment I am stuck in the 'well there is no one to care how fat you are so it doesn't matter' rut.

It does matter though to me, but not enough to stick to a plan.

MamaLazarou · 30/06/2009 13:38

It is quite funny. He sounds dead sleazy, doesn't he?

muddleduck · 30/06/2009 13:39

Have you tried one of the online systems where you enter what you eat and it works everything out for you?
I lost 2 stone with "weight loss resources" a few years ago and this was the key. Once I set a plausible target for how much I wanted to lose the rest was easy. It really gave me the motivation that I was lacking and taught me what foods are worth their calories.

chevre · 30/06/2009 13:39

it is the pseudo trans atlantic voice, totally cracks me up but i do feel quite relaxed after listening to it.

nutty - are you the old nutty with a new name? i seem to remember you are quite a babe. don't be so down on yourself
