To wonder what Liz Jones can possibly be thinking

writing about her obsession with a married man who is presumably pretty identifiable to his friends and neighbours.
I kind of hoped she was fictionalising it, but I suspect she is not.

I often worry that she doesn't fully understand that this is the only life she will ever get, and that it might be an idea to, y'know, actually live a little?

I read her stuff (well, I try not to read it but I am aware of it!) and think, are you really that fecking shallow? just makes me sad really.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 22/06/2009 17:51

The other thing she keeps going on about is this amateur dramatics society she has joined - she makes them sound like they are straight from the pages of Cold Comfort Farm. If it's for real, I can imagine she is getting a pretty frosty reception there lately. DH and I have a theory that she thinks nobody who lives outside London can read.

Apparently he didn't read her column, though sometimes his friends would tell him what she had written. Which is also weird.

I don't read her stuff but my DP does religiously and finds it hilarious.

When he told me about this weeks article I just thought she was a hypocrite - after slagging off her ex for eternity because he cheated she appears to be deliberatly trying to cause trouble in this other persons marriage.

She is an attrocious person IMO.

I feel dirty whenever I read her column. Did you read the one where she decided to eat 'normally', which actually involved eatign about 3000 calories a day. Very sad, self obsessed woman who has admitted she would rather be thin than happy. I can't get over her admission that she had her breasts removed because she thought they were ugly

BitOfFun · 22/06/2009 18:01

Well I just read that and thought it was hilarious- if unintentionally. It really sounds like something Private Eye would run.

littlelamb · 22/06/2009 18:03

found it
About halfway down the page. Makes sad reading really

MachuPicchu · 22/06/2009 18:16

Oh good grief, littlelamb

I don't have the words

mrsboogie · 22/06/2009 18:25

I try to avoid her stuff because it makes me angry but I did read he one she did the other week about her lifelong anorexia. Imagine not eating a single proper meal between the age of 11 and 50

Also read where she was outraged when she found out her husband was seeing some woman who wore some type of unfashionable skirt that the Jones woman disapproved of.

She is shallow to the point of dementedness IMO.

mrsboogie · 22/06/2009 18:27

She also wrote something about lying about her age right up until the point where she got married - i seem to recall something about her trying to get a fake passport to say she was younger becasue she didn't want the husband to know here real age..

TsarChasm · 22/06/2009 18:32

Oh gosh yes I started to read that too yesterday. What tripe she writes.

Using (and ruining) your own marriage as fodder for the sake of a trivial column is one thing, but ruining someone elses..?

I really don't think she's all there though. She seems to see herself in the third person; as a character she writes about in her own personal soap opera. Maybe it's 'therapy' or whatnot for her.

muffle · 22/06/2009 18:42

Oh dear, that breast stuff is really awful. She's actually more ill than I realised and I don't mean that in a cutting way. It must be horrible to have such a dreadful relationship with your body.

squeaver · 22/06/2009 18:49

She is a deeply strange woman.

In rl, she's actually acts just the way she writes.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 22/06/2009 18:55

Do you know her, Squeaver?

tinseltot · 22/06/2009 19:00

I read the article about her 'eating normally', the one that Littlelamb mentioned. I was utterly horrified by the way she lives her life in such total and utter denial of enjoyment or normality. I think she said that she has had only had 3 periods in her whole life (due to what starvation had done to her).

I just feel desperately sorry for her. Life is about so much more than what we look like. IMO, she isn't even slightly attractive. Ironically i actually thought that she looked bloated and flabby around her middle. Really not worth the effort she puts into her weight maintenance. She needs a real wake up call. I really hope she is able to become less self involved and find herself some perspective and happiness.

squeaver · 22/06/2009 19:12

Met her a couple of times years ago, before the husband carry-on.

Utterly self-obsessed, complete space cadet. She redefines the word "flakey".

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 22/06/2009 19:27

Do you rememebr ages ago her and her (now ex) hubby were going to adopt. I think they gt approved but then he changed his mind and said he'd rather have another cat and she got all depressed. How did she get approved?

I feel sorry for her, but I think she knows that she's shallow and flakey. She just doesn't seem to be able to change.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 22/06/2009 19:29

Are you sure she got approved Stripey? The mind boggles.
She seems to really loathe mothers, judging by some of the stuff of hers I've read lately.

OP posts:
TheCrackFox · 22/06/2009 19:41

I actually feel sorry for her - she has wasted her life thinking being skinny and wearing designer clothes actually have some kind of importance.

she has spent £400,000 on clothes

pointydog · 22/06/2009 19:55

ach, she's done alright for a nutter

chegirl · 22/06/2009 20:05

I will NOT read it.

She is barking. She keeps writing about flipping 'furbabies'

That ex of hers is a tit of the first order though. All mockney and down wiv the yoot.

I love animals but I would draw the line at giving horses manicures and chickens reki. Where the feck does she get all her money from anyway?

The illustrations for her column in the DM are hil ar re ous. All willowy and elegant whilst her actual photo is raddled too thin and haggard pinched.

I read the DM when I am at my mum's. I tend to read her stuff with my mouth hanging open in stunned disbelief that anyone could be that disconnected from the real world.

Hi LIZ, bet she googles herself all the time. Then she can write an angst ridden article about how jealous we all are - probably something to do with over active ovaries or something.

Approved for adoption? Good Lord above, someone think of the children, think of the children!!!!

browntrout · 22/06/2009 20:31

good lord - for the first few posts I thought you were talking about the woman who played nana in The Royle Family - I was very very shocked to hear someone say they could almost imagine what her fanjo looked like. Have googled and realise that she was in fact Liz Smith - phew!

Anyway, as you were.

AnyFucker · 22/06/2009 20:34

oops, hope the MN lawyers are taking notes.....
