mrkrabs YABU

I love MN, and read it as much as I can, but I can't keep up with some threads. It has been very helpful when people are responding to me and bold my name, so I now do the same for them.

Because then all your posts aren't searchable? I presume? That makes sense doesn't it? If you thought about it for one single minute.

I don't see there is any virtue whatsoever in outing someone or drawing attention to a name changer. They have their reasons, and in fact there can be no reason for doing it if you also KNOW their reasons.

The only reason I can think for doing it Custy is to show how smart you are. But it doesn't make you look so very smart. It's a vindictive and petty thing to do IMO

Also I don't think anyone should go about using that phrase. It makes no sense! You can't insipidly insinuate and also at the same time slur a poster. If the insinuation is insipid then it presumably is not damaging? In fact it is very weak and without interest or vigour. However this is a minor and EXTREMELY irritating point I am making.

I hate the bold thing. It feels like: 'you, yes you. Stand up when I am talking to you.'

Custardo, why so unpleasant?

Report
Tortington · 22/06/2009 10:14

yes it was wasn't it

i wouldn't out her if she truly wanted to remain anonymous.

Report
thumbwitch · 22/06/2009 10:15

mrkrabs - (dumbing it down for you there) - if you haven't learnt by now that huge numbers of MNers simply do NOT fully read every post on every thread, you will soon. It is abundantly clear that this is the case from the numbers of MNers who jump in on a discussion 6 pages in and respond to the opening post, despite the fact that things have moved on and/or the OP has recanted/changed their mind/been outed as a troll.

Please get over it, some people like it.

Report
ahundredtimes · 22/06/2009 10:17

But don't you understand the searching point? We all know when it's her - and you can respond to her as such - but that doesn't mean you have to flag up the original name.

Does it?

I can't understand why you would, other than to be unpleasant and because you want to be a bully.

There's no great hypocrisy here Custy.

And yes, VERY irritating.I agree.

Report
Katisha · 22/06/2009 10:19

So are you saying custardo that she should never be allowed back on MN?
And if so why?
It's not as if she asked the nutter to stalk her is it?

Report
ahundredtimes · 22/06/2009 10:19

So it's a question of

anonymous to who isn't it?

Or should that be whom?

Report
BecauseImWorthIt · 22/06/2009 10:21

I don't think it makes any difference what you do - people still don't bother reading the threads/posts properly.

One of my pet hates is when someone jumps in at the end of the thread, and starts their thread with "I haven't read this but ..."

By which time, of course, the whole thread has moved on anyway!

Report
thedolly · 22/06/2009 10:23

Is it sour grapes I wonder? I think I read in a post recently that custardo was the new COD

mumsiebumsie · 22/06/2009 10:29

Nothing wrong with jumping into a thread and commenting without first reading all previous posts. There's a thread I regularly post on that is over 800 pages long! Am I expected to read all that before posting? Think not.

Report
idranktheteaatwork · 22/06/2009 10:29

Op should know mumsnet well enough to realise that she will be outed whether intentionally or not simply because not everyone is aware why she left and not everyone cares.
Its a public forum, you can only remain anonymous by not coming here at all.
Agree its not fair to blatantly use a searchable name if you are aware of the reasons why it was changed but equally if you are that concerned about more exposure why come back?

Report
BecauseImWorthIt · 22/06/2009 10:30

If you post regularly on it then why wouldn't you read it all?

Report
mumoverseas · 22/06/2009 10:30

At the risk of answering the OP when things have progressed to a handbags at dawn situation, I agree with several posters that bold is very useful, particularly when trying to skim through 'threads I'm on' when b/f a wriggly baby. If one can clearly see when comments are directed at them, they can avoid overlooking responding to them if a response is required and as such can avoid being in a situation of potentially ignoring other posters questions/queries.

Report
thedolly · 22/06/2009 10:30

I am not aware.

Report
ahundredtimes · 22/06/2009 10:34

Well I guess Idrankthetea - because it isn't other posters you are worried about, it's the weirdo RL person. So if you namechange lots then presumably you can carry on enjoying MN, which I assume you love, and all should be fine.

You might also look at what you say and post, more than you did before because of the the RL situation.

That might be a good compromise? No?

Report
EachPeachPearMum · 22/06/2009 10:54

but 100x, weirdo rl people can lurk just as much as other mners, and mrkrabs' posting style is blatantly unique- anyone who has read a few threads can spot her a mile off regardless of namechanges. I agree though that the content has been reduced to chitchat.
Is that frustrating Mrkrabs?

hullygully · 22/06/2009 10:54

I haven't read this thread or used bold, but I do want to out everyone indiscriminately.

What list?

Report
ahundredtimes · 22/06/2009 11:17

But then surely EPPP you're in the realm of very dedicated looking and finding, and studying of styles in order to stalk.

If that is the case, the yes, she is doomed. But still makes it hard for dedicated trouble-maker as can't put name in search engine and get the whole weeks postings etc. Also in the end that's her decision isn't it? I don't see that decision justifies anyone else doing gleeful pointing out. She's not trying to elude other posters, just the weirdo,no?

lol @ Hully
