To be pissed off with dp's family - wedding rant..

We are getting married in october - 40 odd people, nice hotel.

Send invites and menus out a few weeks ago - tried to pick things that would suit everyone - gave 3 choices for each course

soup au pistou (veg with pesto)
risotto
terrine

lamb
chicken
salmon

3 deserts

Anyways, gets an email from dp's aunt.. other aunt (her sister, dp's mum's sisters) had been in touch with her, her husband and son(who's 30 odd) wont eat any of the main courses.. so she (the 2nd aunt) has spoken to the wedding co-ordinator at the hotel on her behalf, and arranged for the pair of them to have steak... ARGGHHHHH

Now I am pissed off because:
a) aunt should have got in touch with us - not got other aunt to contact hotel
b)the hotel should have spoken to me rather than just agreeing to it
c) its going to look really bad to other guests that everyone else is sitting down to lamb chicken or salmon and these two picky feckers are there with their fillet steak...I mean honestly, with the exception of vegetarians is there anyone that really couldnt eat any of those choices for 1 meal that they arent even bloody paying for???

I'm not a bridezilla... or am I?

Store it under "rude wedding guests and other tossers"

Jotwins · 20/06/2009 21:17

I hope we will be getting steak too!!!! No not really, I don't even like steak. Thats just bloody cheeky, I would be tempted to call them and ask why they did that. But I know what you mean about not being arsed! I would def be having words with the hotel. They should put steak as an option and pick up the extra cost.

I went the other way with our wedding, my gran didn't want to eat red meat (lamb was our meat option), or vegetarian things, so we went to great lengths to ensure that she had a specially constructed menu with chicken for her main course.

I later learnt from another relative on her table that she took one look at the specially cooked exactly to her requirement chicken, said "oooh no I don't think that's for me, you must have made a mistake" and got them to bring her lamb instead.

Bless her.

Think you can't please everyone with the food, just leave them to it if it's not costing you any more.

treedelivery · 20/06/2009 21:28

We gave no choice but mentioned in the info sheet we put in with invites we were having lamb so some might prefer the veggie option as we knew it wasn't to everyones taste. And to inform us of any allergies.

No one did, but 3 people declared on the day they left the lamb [fecking £22 local lamb!!] as they didn't eat lamb.

mamas12 · 20/06/2009 23:59

Why don't you change everyone to steak and let the hotel take up the cost as they said they would?? (wink)

simplesusan · 21/06/2009 00:35

Yanbu-your guests are very rude.

I don't eat chicken (love Salmon though!!) so generally ask if it is going to be chicken then give me the veggie option.

Next time though I think I will hold out for steak!!!!!
Will also try this with cheapo wine and hold out for champers.
Have thought of another. Not too keen on the glass of sherry at the beginning of the wedding so how about if I ask for a pint of cider instead.

Ps try not to let it fester too much, just cross these guests off any future invites!
