To be pissed off with dp's family - wedding rant..

geordieminx · 20/06/2009 19:53

We are getting married in october - 40 odd people, nice hotel.

Send invites and menus out a few weeks ago - tried to pick things that would suit everyone - gave 3 choices for each course

soup au pistou (veg with pesto)
risotto
terrine

lamb
chicken
salmon

3 deserts

Anyways, gets an email from dp's aunt.. other aunt (her sister, dp's mum's sisters) had been in touch with her, her husband and son(who's 30 odd) wont eat any of the main courses.. so she (the 2nd aunt) has spoken to the wedding co-ordinator at the hotel on her behalf, and arranged for the pair of them to have steak... ARGGHHHHH

Now I am pissed off because:
a) aunt should have got in touch with us - not got other aunt to contact hotel
b)the hotel should have spoken to me rather than just agreeing to it
c) its going to look really bad to other guests that everyone else is sitting down to lamb chicken or salmon and these two picky feckers are there with their fillet steak...I mean honestly, with the exception of vegetarians is there anyone that really couldnt eat any of those choices for 1 meal that they arent even bloody paying for???

I'm not a bridezilla... or am I?

Change it back. They get what they're given,if they don't want it then they shove it round the plate and eat the peripheral bits in the time honoured fashion. If they're that fussy they can eat before hand and watch everyone else enjoy,or get a bag of chips on way home. Gets my goat, precisely why I got married in secret (well, barring 20 friends) second time around.Terribly rude, hotel absolutely should not have accepted the call / email.

geordieminx · 20/06/2009 20:13

Apparently there will be no extra cost to us - not sure whether they have paid the extra or whether tthe hotel have just agreed to it as we are spending a small fortune...

Tbh I wouldn't care if there was a cost implication or not. It is v rude of your guests. I seriously would be contacting the hotel/wedding planner to enquire how many changes made by guests they would accept.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 20/06/2009 20:20

It's more of a principle thing then a cost thing though. It's incredibly rude and the last thing you need is other guests feeling snubbed/looked down at. I bet some of the others would like steak aswell so it really wouldn't look good for them not to be asked. I would call the hotel, change the bookings to chicken, then rant and rave about them allowing guests to do this.

Satsuma1 · 20/06/2009 20:21

Very, very rude.

We didn't let anyone see the menu before the day. We asked everyone if they were vegetarian or had any special dietary requirements and took care of that, but apart from that everyone had the same, no choice.

I hope they feel very awkward when the rest of the table query why they're getting different food.

onepieceofcremeegg · 20/06/2009 20:22

exactly, fluffy.

imagine if other guests took it upon themselves to say that actually they might prefer caviar and filet steak too, and real champagne rather than fizzy wine.

It's offensive and rude to the bride and groom imo.

moondog · 20/06/2009 20:25

Cheeky fuckers.
I'd ring the hotel, bollock them and tell them to get back in touch with them to change to one of your choices.

Although, as others have said, they shouldn't have a bloody choice at all!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 20/06/2009 20:31

Could you not change it to a plate of sprouts?

treedelivery · 20/06/2009 20:32
Grin
onepieceofcremeegg · 20/06/2009 20:33

Yes, I agree fluffy, that'd sort them.

Am still at their rudeness.

They could hardly complain on the day "ooh we disapproved of the original menu so ordered steak as we are so special but sprouts have been served"

Ha ha

geordieminx · 20/06/2009 20:33

I have emailed the hotel as do angry better written than over the phone - especially as I was at the bloody hotel today having coffee with the planner and she didnt even mention it!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 20/06/2009 20:37

I'd love to see their face when presented with a plate of sprouts instead of a steak!
Was it the wedding planner they spoke to, maybe she didn't know.

nymphadora · 20/06/2009 20:37

I'm getting married in October, should I have sent the invites by now???

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 20/06/2009 20:39

No, not yet. August maybe but judging from this thread, a month before would do so they don't have the chance to call the hotel and change their meal.

cornsilk · 20/06/2009 20:39

Where's the finger? E-mail it to them.

Hilarious Corn ,even with top of finger going astray!

geordieminx · 20/06/2009 20:48

No, we sent our invites ridiculously early, as we wanted to know whether they would be coming (we dont see them very often, thought they would be busy with farm), and if they werent we could invite a few others instead. (Limited to 40 by venue)

In hindsight I wish we had sent the invites a month before, and not given anyone any choice.

Somehow I can't get that finger right.
I nicked it off one of Doodle's posts and she managed it beautifully.

drlove8 · 20/06/2009 20:51

moondog · 20/06/2009 20:51

Cut and paste ok bit and rebuild tip of finger from scratch?

nymphadora · 20/06/2009 20:52
