I dont think it is actually such a bad place/ organisation...fair enough sometimes the Macdonalds service/experience isnt always fantastic but on the whole I dont think its that bad anymore

well I think they are trying their best and dont always deserve the scorn they receive

i LOVE Bombay Bad Boy Pot noodle

AnarchyAunt · 20/06/2009 19:25

It affects me as a consumer because I choose not to spend my money there - I believe that to do so is to endorse their business and environmental practices.

But you know, each to their own.

stoppinattwo · 20/06/2009 19:25

ooooh i havent tried that badboy!!!

I hate MacDonalds and the way that they market to children. Did you know that in America, the adverts don't even show the product? Not a glimpse of burgers, just a little girl who is very sad and lonely, so Ronald MacDonald gives her a puppy.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 20/06/2009 19:28

mmmmmm...mechanically recovered spinal column slop.

I want a cheeseburger now!

Who was it who said that mcdonalds bids against dog and cat food companies for the meat?

I still don't care that it's mystery meat I used to love a naughty big mac!

LaurieFairyCake · 20/06/2009 19:28

When the employees try to join a union in America they are fired from their job. They are all too scared.

It doesn't 'affect the consumer' if people think they live in a vacuum.

By buying there we make them bigger and give them more power.

It's why I try to not buy from Tesco. I don't always manage it. DD loves McFlurries so she gets one occasionally.

oopsagain · 20/06/2009 19:30

Lol about employees taking up poor employment by themselves.

Macdonolads won't let them join a union ffs.

But hey ho, it's the "i like them so i can justify it if i want to" brigade here too.

Macdonlds brought a libel case against two people some yrs ago.

In that case the workign practices and animals cruelty parts of the libel were proved for the dfendants- ie Macdonald have poor working conditons and have a history of animla cruelty.
The persued the libel case against two people who were financially unable to pay for representation.

macdonalds won, but the revelations in court showed waht a mean spirited and dmaging company they actually sre.

I ahven't been in one for 20yr, nor have my kids- xpt for the occ macdump

HecatesTwopenceworth · 20/06/2009 19:30

puzzle - I rather fancied him in Rocky Horror!

oopsagain · 20/06/2009 19:33

"What's wrong with McDonalds

Baisey · 20/06/2009 19:49

Sausage and egg McMuffin, the perfect hangover food in my opinion!

PuzzleRocks · 20/06/2009 19:57

Hecate - That's where my love affair stems from. When I first saw him in Rocky Horror at the age of 11. It was an awakening. That's disturbing

HecatesTwopenceworth · 20/06/2009 20:19

I know. He was so sexy, I had some very naughty and confusing dreams involving him and eddie!

roulade · 21/06/2009 22:45

I'm joining your club Hecate & Puzzle i feel we are very disturbed! Thought he was dead sexy in clue.

Gawd bless the Golden Arches Restaurants!

I have a different reason for liking MacDonalds (don't like the food much). I have a severely disabled child with autistic behaviours. My friends and I cannot easily go to restaurants with our disabled children as we have to wait too long for food and the kids kick off. We have experienced waiting staff hovering by us, sweeping up food dropped on the floor in 'nice', ethical, middle-class restaurants. All MacD's are wheelchair accessible and have disabled parking. The food is always the same - predictable and comforting to an autistic child. They have balloons and toys. There are no fussy things to break or tableclothes to pull off. The staff are tolerant of weird behaviour. You can do the drive-through if things are really going badly. It is open all the time so we can go there on those endless, rainy, desperate days...I could go on.

Weatherspoons staff have also been very patient and kind to my ds and fast-tracked his meal.

If I didn't have a disabled child, I probably wouldn't set foot in MacD's, but now I don't know what we would do without it.

trixymalixy · 22/06/2009 01:01

Mmmm, mcdonalds cheeseburger!!

i read fast food nation, it made me hungry.

BuckBuckMcFate · 22/06/2009 01:14

I used to love an Egg McMuffin when hungover but haven't been in a McD's for years now.

Anyone remember one of their burgers being tested and it had animal faeces in it? And McD's response was 'well it's still safe to eat because we cooked it at a high enough temperature to destroy the bacteria'!!

But it's still eating animal poo though!

kittycatty · 22/06/2009 08:43

OMG get a life!!!

Why are mcdonalds always full?

Why are they everywhere?

Why are they making more money than last year?

My son works for them and without mcdonalds he would be out of work, on the dole. Then you really would be complaining!

Im sorry but if you dont like them DONT GO, but for gods sake stop moaning.

BouncingTurtle · 22/06/2009 08:49

Sausage and egg mcmuffins drool

I love MaccyD breakfast.

Bets thing of all I can get a pot of Oatsosimple for ds!! And all the toppings are on the side which means I can give it to him plain

Rhian82 · 22/06/2009 08:52

I read FFN about eight years ago and haven't been there (or any fast food chain) since. I admit to craving McChicken sandwiches while reading it though

wannaBe · 22/06/2009 09:16

At the end of the day you could find a reason for not buying from all companies.

McDonalds for their deforestation practices/ways they treat some of their staff/quality of their products...

Nestle for marketing formula in the third world...

Primark/m&s/virtually every other high street clothing retailer for using child labour.

Hell you could probably even boycott waitrose for stocking nestle products (if they do) and so the list goes on.

Ultimately, people make their own choices as to whether they frequent a certain shop. But at the end of the day, no-one is able to say that they've never supported any business that had any kind of unethical practices.

So at the end of the day, we make our own choices.

Personally I have only ever been to mcDonalds a handful of times. I wouldn't choose to eat there but they certainly have their place. And I certainly have better things to do than to judge those who do eat there, esp considering those who judge almost certainly don't boycott every questionable company in the world...

dawntigga · 22/06/2009 09:20

FYI it's McDonald's, use to work for them it's a crap firm in my opinion, but the double cheeseburgers are fantastic

gagamama · 22/06/2009 09:22

McDonalds I can avoid, it doesn't leave me feeling in any way full or satisfied and just makes me feel sluggish, guilty and crap. I think the main reason DCs like it is because of the toys, the colourful furniture and the cuddly branding.

KFC on the other hand I cannot resist, even though I know I'm eating fat-seeped, diseased, unethically farmed chickens served to me by someone who wouldn't know what a hygeine certificate was if it slapped them round the face. It just tastes soooo good. I think they must drug it or something. Ditto Nandos.
