To be pissed off that I'm not going to Glastonbury this year? ;-(

I have been eight times and I LOVE it, mud and all.
I decided not to go this year as dd is still too young and I'm bf.
I always feel sad when the festival comes nearer and I don't have tickets.
Mabe I can take dd when she's older. Un less she'd rather go with her mates.

YANBU

I have been looking at more "family friendly" festivals for when DD and the one coming soon are older. I don't think I would find it very relaxing at the moment

Rollergirl1 · 17/06/2009 14:12

Why not consider Big Chill or Camp Bestival instead, which are both very child-friendly? I am trying to persuade hubby with one of those this year.

Big chill line-up not to be sniffed at

Stigaloid · 17/06/2009 14:13

i read in the paper today that pople spend on average £600 per festival weekend. (per person)

LovelyTinOfSpam · 17/06/2009 14:16

I nearly wet myself with excitement when i saw the T in the park line up.

Then I realised that if I had actually been able to go I would have spent the entire time in torment about who to go and see!

poshsinglemum · 17/06/2009 14:20

I love the thought of Camp Bestival and on the website it says that you can pay in installments!

The Big Green Gathering is also v child friendly.

TBH- I wouldn't have as much fun if I took dd to Glastonbury- I be worried about hygene, mud, too much sun, wasted people, drugs etc, etc, etc.
I couldn't go with my baby and party.

I just feel so restless at. Must be the summer. Does the summer have a similar effect on anyone else or is it just me????

at the moment sorry.

YANBU - I am very sad about it but I always work it and cant do that with the baby obviously. Glastonbury is the only place I really feel at home.

Am going to try to do Beautiful Days with both kids next year...

LovelyTinOfSpam · 17/06/2009 14:28

I have been looking on festival websites too gloomily PSM. My DH has never been to one can you believe it!

I think that with our advanced age it would be better to do something small when DCs are bigger - glastonbury way too big and way too easy to get lost in.

poshsinglemum · 17/06/2009 14:43

Giantkatestacks-

What you said about feeling at home is soooooooooooo true. Sigh.

I think that the festivals we have in the UK are so special.

It is a collective letting down of hair. And by gosh- I need that right now!
Next year I think mum and dad will look after dd for the weekend and I will go alone. She will be readu then and so will I.

Try Latitude, very family friendly

poshsinglemum · 17/06/2009 14:44

Yes- my cousin told me about it. Might go.

YANBU, I am exactly the same since having children, I miss the wild festivals hugely

However, like others have said, they're are many family friendly ones going on, The Big Green Gathering is a fab one.

HumphreyCobbler · 17/06/2009 14:47

God I would love to go to a festival

without the children

and meet some fab people

and get very drunk and not worry about the five am start

see some great music

I am really depressed now

poshsinglemum · 17/06/2009 14:55

Glad I'm not the only one!
I am chomping at the bit! aaaaaaggggggrrrrr!!!

YANBU
I really wanted to go but my Mum is away so can't

I'm going to Lovebox with DD which is a small consolation prize but still looking forward to it!

queenrollo · 17/06/2009 15:15

i didn't go in 2005....i was pregnant and decided on ticket day not to risk it 'just in case'. As it turned out i was struggling to walk much further than the corner shop.....and of course that was the year of the biblical downpour on the Thursday. I still tortured myself by watching the BBC footage and sobbing
I took ds in 2007, another muddy year and it was great! He really loved it.....
I've split from his dad and so he is having him this year (as he did last year) while i go (i have my son at weekends usually). I have a new partner and it's great for us to have a holiday to spend some quality time together. We do quite a few festivals through the summer and will be taking ds to Shambala and Alchemy. We're doing Bestival without him.

We did Wychwood last year which i can highly recommend for those with children. The site (Cheltenham Racecourse) is mostly hardstanding so easy-going with the pushchair, and not really a drunken idiot kind of fest at all.

JemL · 17/06/2009 16:50

I am going to Glastonbury - but before you get too jealous - I will be 26 weeks pregnant, so not exactly going wild! Neither will I be eating my beloved ropey burgers from a van, which I normally live on over the weekend. And I'll be coming home if it rains too. My family think I'm mad.

poshtottie · 17/06/2009 17:26

I only would go if I could stay in campkerala and having perused their website it will be very unlikely unless I win the lottery.

LovelyTinOfSpam · 19/06/2009 21:15

Just saw prodigy on the telly at isle of wight.... really feeling the pain of being stuck on the sofa now...

Baisey · 19/06/2009 21:33

My friends band is playing at Glasto this year, thought id gloat on his behalf lol.

JemL you are mad im 15 weeks pregnant and half the time cant manage to get myself out of bed in the morning, let alone make it to Glastonbury!

AnathemaDevice · 19/06/2009 21:54

I'm going to watch the Glastonbury coverage on telly this year and cry, even though I know that taking a 3 month old would be impossible. I know I'm going to watch it and think 'we could have managed to go with a baby...'

I will take DS next year though, and every year after that. Then one day, when he's old enough, I might even tell him he was probably conceived there

Hassled · 19/06/2009 21:57

I'm so bloody old that the last time I went was in 1986. And every single year it happens, I wish I was back there. And yes, it does make me feel restless.

JemL · 19/06/2009 22:45

Baisey, even getting myself to and around Glasto will be less exhausting than 3 yo DS!!

Sod the music, I am also looking forward to spending 10 solid hours on my airbed in my lovely sleeping bag!

As long as it doesn't rain I'm not too concerned - but I have a 50/50 ratio of muddy festivals to nice ones, so am not holding my breath!

shockers · 19/06/2009 23:48

I had my first family ( I say family ...it was me and 2 kids under 10!!) festival last year... Womad. The music was great... hadn't heard of many of the artists before I went but have great memories and CD's since.
The kids stuff was wonderful... they did loads of craft, there was a storytelling tent and drumming workshops. On the sunday, the kids had a parade round the site with what they had made... impressive!!
Loved the music, the food and the whole vibe. If you are just in the mood for a festival and are open minded to the artists then this is a really good place to take kids

dawntigga · 20/06/2009 09:48

YANBU but I think it's lost a lot of it's charm.

I'm thinking of the Secret garden party next year.

Or if you like folk Cropredy is always family friendly.
