To wonder why people are still so woefully misinformed?

We now have access to more information than any previous generation. An entire reference library is available at the click of a mouse, public libraries were still free last time I checked, and general reference books are readily available and comparatively cheap.

Why then is the apparent standard of general knowledge and informed opinion amongst many people in Britain [especially the younger generations] so abysmal?

BitOfFun: I only post under one handle - I consider it more honest. That way everyone knows exactly whom they are addressing or reading.

Of course I can't prove this anymore than clemette can prove her teaching credentials so we will all just have to take each other on trust, won't we?

As to JemL I suspect this character is not quite so honest as I am in this regard but quite frankly I don't have the time, at this precise moment, to deal with her misinformed comments and petty attempts at personalised provocation.

Go well - both of you!

ROFL @ posting under a "handle"...

Takes me right back to the heady days of ham radio enthusiasists and Smokey and the Bandit

Tortington · 15/06/2009 23:54

but it is called a handle

makipuppy · 16/06/2009 08:26

hellobeastie is quite right about one man's knowledge is another's gaping abyss. DP has lofty qualifications from lofty institutions but when I met him he through ladies peed through the vagina.

makipuppy · 16/06/2009 08:27

er, that's he thought although he'd quite possibly throughed a few in his time...

FairLadyRantALot · 16/06/2009 08:33

are you bored Lucia?

cory · 16/06/2009 08:41
HelloBeastie · 16/06/2009 08:49

Ah, makipuppy, my DH thought that as well. Arts students, eh...
Did you have to use the term 'gaping abyss' though ?!

mamadiva · 16/06/2009 08:56

I have'nt even bothered to read the whole thread because well... Lucia did post it!

Honestly you are getting so dull nowadays Lucia it's all so predictable...

provocative post... no reply... few questions... reply... try to sound intelligent... disappear... reply... provoke... provoke...

Need I say more?

MerryPonymum · 16/06/2009 09:14

Do you mean 'misinformed', Lucia - which means 'given incorrect information' - or do you mean 'uninformed' - 'ignorant, unenlightened, not aware' - ?

I suspect you mean the latter and, to save embarrassment, should ask for your title to be corrected before anyone sees it and laughs at you

makipuppy · 16/06/2009 09:17

beastie gosh I'm glad I'm not alone. DP did philosophy, so more a case of more talk less action...

clemette · 16/06/2009 09:29

Same here with a husband thinking pee came from my vagina. And he has a science degree!

makipuppy · 16/06/2009 09:35

DP has a blind spot over biology as a whole. At our 6 week scan DP stood rigid and petrified, at the business end, clutching a book titled, 'Functions, Logic and Sets' like it was going to save his life. The nurse had to physically shove him up towards my head.

MachuPicchu · 16/06/2009 09:46

my female friend thought women peed out of their vaginas until she was 24yo. She thought you had to remove a tampon to wee. (She has a PhD and everything )

Peachy · 16/06/2009 09:55

'Maybe because years of pub quiz experience has taught me that one person's 'Duh! That's so easy!' is another person's 'How is anyone supposed to know that'?'

YOu know, dh and I are complete opposites - if he gets a question I could answer in a moment, Shakespeare maybe, biologyhe's stuffed; he however is damned able with a wiring diagram or technology problem- diferent degrees, different pepole, different aims, different abilities.

It takes all sorts but mostly we'd be stuffed without the others

FairLadyRantALot · 16/06/2009 10:02

oh lol MachuPicchu....just goes to show that academical achievement is NOT everything ...oh that made me giggle...

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 16/06/2009 10:36

makipuppy at your DP with his 'Functions, Logic and Sets'.

screamingabdab · 16/06/2009 13:00

Right, first thing I'm going to do when DSs come home from school is to make sure my DSs know where ladies pee from. Can't let them reach adulthood in ignorance.

Lucia39 · 16/06/2009 16:15

mamadiva: Some of us have jobs to do that don't involve sitting behind a PC all day - we also have lives beyond MN - hence not all of us wish to spend our every waking moment on this website.

It surely can't be that difficult to comprehend, can it?

Lucia, do you experience a lot of darkness in your immediate environment...

wolfnipplechips · 16/06/2009 18:52

I'm really disappointed i thought somebody had been misinforming us about something, was hoping it was swine flu. Instead i find that you actually mean that the youth of today are UNinformed.

Now how did somebody as well educated as you get something as simple as that wrong lucia.

Unless i've got it wrong and you are talking about somebody going about giving out woefully wrong facts to the youth of today. Do let me know.

BitOfFun · 16/06/2009 19:22

Or ill-informed?

Lucia, approximately how many times a week do you have to take the "Kick Me" signs off your back? Or are you very different at work?
