to be insulted by MIL's present?

Right, it was my birthday yesterday - I am now 39. A lot of miles on the clock I know, but I look and feel a lot younger. Sure, last weekend I was at a nightclub dancing till 4am! I'm fitter and slimmer than I was at 20.

Anyway I was pleased to have people telling me yesterday that I look nowhere near 39 - that was enough of a birthday present for me!

Until I arrived home from work today to find a card and a present from my MIL. The present? Olay anti-wrinkle provital tinted moisturiser for mature skin!!!!!! FFS, this stuff is for over-70s!! I'm tempted to ask her did she leave her new moisturiser behind by accident. But I'll just have a rant on MN instead!

My mil left a bag of weight watchers shake sachets here a few years ago.

When I told her she had left them behind, she said ''oh, I left them for you. I thought you might like to try them''!

I've had a pilates ball from her as a birthday present too once.

Do you see a theme too?

Mine bought me a Wilkinson's razor, you know, the ones with the soap bit on the head bit of it?

Cut my legs to ribbons, and it wasn't even a special occasion

BitOfFun · 09/06/2009 19:21

Good Lord!

Sycamoretreeisvile · 09/06/2009 19:25

at justcallmedog.

Where on EARTH did you put your face when you unwrapped that?

Horton · 09/06/2009 19:26

I got a vest from mine last Christmas. It was quite a nice vest but it did seem a bit of a strange thing to choose. I'd rather have had a bar of soap or a packet of sweets for the same price.

Sounds like a wise move Justcallmedog.

Gotta wonder what the MIL thought about it...and your DH!

My MIL gave me a secondhand duvet cover and pillow set. Size double (we have kingsize or single beds in this house), colour baby blue (bedroom olive green).
Bless 'em.

qwertpoiuy · 09/06/2009 19:45

thelollipoplady · 09/06/2009 20:21

mil gave me a multipack of Walkers crisps... that she'd already opened. I wouldn't have minded but only the ready salted were left...

Hormonesnomore · 09/06/2009 20:25

I love my mil despite the rubbish delightful gifts over the years - a jumper with cherries all over it, old lady slippers a size too big, a flowery apron, and for a little extra one Christmas(dh got a mini bottle of whisky) a new pair of rubber gloves! Bless her, she means well I think.

melonian · 09/06/2009 20:34

My MIL has just given me a bag of laundry balls with a note attached saying "these were on offer in Aldi". It's the thought that counts, eh?

DesperateHousewifeToo · 09/06/2009 20:51

I've just typed such an entertaining post and then LOST it

Can't be bothered to be write all my witticisms again

{waves to 'The Vile One'....again. Dd off with impetigo. She was verrry excited about the bright pink anti-biotics...until she tasted it }

Sycamoretreeisvile · 10/06/2009 09:09

Ah DHW, poor DD. And school photo day too - bet you are gutted (not!). Hope she gets well soon - give her love from me and DD.

Am still off with tonsilitis - boo. Feeling very sorry for myself.

Portofino · 10/06/2009 09:17

Not my MIL, but my Nan - i was telling her how I missed M&S (being abroad) so she kindly sent me a huge jiffy bag filled with mahoosive flowery pants! . They weren't even M&S, but from the market!
