to think that " tricky " items from a dishwasher have to be put away

if dh finds a grater, or a vase he obviosuly SHUTS DOWN and cannot process it.
so they are left on the side.
above where they go

What drives me up a feckin' wall is when he finishes with his cup/glass/plate whatever and puts it on the bench on top of the dishwasher. How much harder can it be to just pop it in?

ReginaCovington · 02/06/2009 19:18

this sseems to be a recurring theme!

PlumBumMum · 02/06/2009 19:21

OMG I soo thought this thread was about something else, the heat must be getting to me!

mrsmaidamess · 02/06/2009 19:22

My dh does it with washing as well though.

'Tricky pillow case, not sure. Are they dd's or dw's leggings? Best leave them, just in case. Half a dozen odd socks? I'll put them back in the basket for later.'

StealthPolarBear · 02/06/2009 19:29

lol
DH has kitchen blindness - doesn't know where things are kept despite the fact we've lived here 18 months and he's lived here the same amount of time as me!
He does put stuff away though, but in the wrong place.

I admit to being a draining board stacker though - usually trying to empty the thing in a hurry so I can stack it again and can't faff about with vitalite tubs / mugs / DS's cups so they all get shoved on the draining board. MIL seems to think this is a heinous crime, removes them and puts them on the kitchen table for me - why? Last time she did it I'd only popped out for 5 mins - when I came back I put them all straight back on the draining board!
Am I an MN outcast?

DH loves the dishwasher. Always muttering stuff like 'room for loads more in there' and pratting around re-organising it to fit in just one more teaspoon.

He also carefully folds clothes ready for ironing whereas I just bung them in the ironing basket. This is annoying because I then look at it and think 'ah, it's only at the rim, it won't take 20 minutes to clear'. But because it's all carefully folded there's actually 542 items in there and it takes 3 hours to get through!

Morloth · 02/06/2009 19:47

I quite like loading the dishwasher, it is a bit like playing tetris.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 02/06/2009 19:55

My DH does sometimes load the dishawasher but only after a load of stuff has piled up. He then either

a) selects all the biggest things to wash so there is less to stack in there

b) washes things by category - so he washes all the cups and dishes but nothing else so we end up with no clean cultery or something.

If anything is not completely dry afterwards tthat gets left out. Anything small and fiddly - especially baby cups get carefully put above thir drawer (strangely on a piece of kitchen towel)

WHY?!?!?

happywomble · 02/06/2009 20:20

My DH winds me up with the way he loads the dishwasher.

He puts mugs in without checking to see if there is any liquid left in and then liquid splashes on to edge of dishwasher/unit and hinge and is very difficult to clean.

He also manages to avoid the low rinse aid light for several days.

To go back to OP my DH also forgets where to put grater and plastic jugs. If there is any best china to unload he leaves it on top of the side board rather than putting it in!

Grr!

Poledra · 02/06/2009 21:04

Saucepans count as tricky items for my DH, as well as those already listed.

onepieceofcremeegg · 02/06/2009 21:09

We play a fun game in our house. Tis called "hunt the grater"

For a week now it has been tucked away with the children's plates. Before that it was hidden behind the spare mugs on a high top shelf.

I am currently winning as I have bought a new grater hahaha and found a new special place for it.

Anifrangapani · 02/06/2009 21:16

Thank you all for reminding me that my dh is quite good at housework. Although if anybody finds my baking sheet - you know the one with the red bottom and non stick top - can you let me know where it has been put. Thanks.

pooka · 02/06/2009 21:18

God - dh is a nightmare for this. Puts everything away in quite an anal and obsessive way (i.e. plates perfectly ordered) and then leaves the worksurface covered with "problem" items. Which include - all cookware (i.e. serving dishes/casserole pots) and the GRATER!!!

Aaaaarrrgh.

It really irritates me. Inordinately so perhaps.

MamaHobgoblin · 02/06/2009 21:26

DH is fab really, so shouldn't add this - he knows where the grater lives BUT

He doesn't appear to know in which drawer certain arcane items live:

the ice cream scoop
the bacon scissors
the lemon zester
the potato peeler
the little clippy things you seal cereal packets with
any knife that doesn't fit into his swanky Sabatier block (he disowns them)

We use all of these all of the time, he does most of the washing up because I'm a lazy tart, so WHY hasn't he decided where they go? Every time I cook something, it's hunt the bloody zester/scissors/big spoon.

And he makes frankly dangerous towers of tupperware and baby bowls in the 'misc. plastic crap' cupboard, too. Ok, he's not an architectural engineer but nobody could imagine they'll stay in the cupboard, rather than braining me when I open it.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/06/2009 21:34

DP puts the Pyrex jug, grater, other assorted tricky items in a different place each time. I never know where to find them.

ClaireDeLoon · 02/06/2009 22:39

Also, why are they unable to wipe down a kitchen worksurface of crumbs, spillages etc after tidying up and stacking dishwasher.

happywomble · 02/06/2009 23:15

aah the surfaces.. my DH seems to miss those too..whereas I have to have my surfaces clean!
