It's such a comfy hairstyle in hot weather. But are people going to think I am some sort of wierd girly twat who believes in fairies and has soft toys all over her bed?

hey, i like mary jane style shoes.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 31/05/2009 22:08

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

In your 40's you must wear it like this

Seriously though, pigtails or pigtail plaits in grown women look daft. Like you are trying to be cute and girlie. Only my opinion though.

Hair out of your way is easy - gather it into a low ponytail then get one of those gripper thingies, or hair combs, or hair sticks, twist the ponytail and secure it.

ScummyMummy · 31/05/2009 22:33

Well, I admire you for it, paula. And sbg and whoever else is reclaiming little girl fashion for the adult world without giving a shit about what anyone else thinks.

I think it can look quite cool in a non little girl way.Side parting low bunches beautiful sunglasses looks quite nice if you do

NancysGarden · 31/05/2009 22:50

Go for it, I remember a thread like this when i first started MNing. Amazed at how prejudiced some MNers are. Nothing wrong with it, looks cute if you can pull it off.

SolidGoldBrass · 31/05/2009 23:14

Just to wind you all up even more, my other favourite hairstyle for hot weather is two plaits pinned on top of my head. Yes, like Helga in Allo Allo....

i knew it would be that before i had read to the end!

actually a really flattering hairstyle on a pretty face i think

SolidGoldBrass · 01/06/2009 01:28

Ah, but I have a face like a bag of spannners these days...

My 3yo frequently has her hair like that- to stop her sucking the ends of her plaits. She is 3 going on 43 though....

CarmenSanDiego · 01/06/2009 03:04

yanbu. Nothing wrong with bunches or plaits imo. Low bunches can be really stylish, especially with a nice leather thong tie or semi-plaited. What a lot of sheep!

thumbwitch · 01/06/2009 03:23

YANBU - nothing wrong with it (although not sure about the skully ribbons ).

I was very at a "friend" suggesting that it was about time I had my hair cut short now as I was really too old to have long hair. Who the hell asked her anyway? What a seriously old-fashioned attitude.

You could always go for the Princess Leia "earphones" hairstyle...

I still do it sometimes and I'm in the same bracket as you so yar boo sucks to everyone else who is wearing their judgeypants.

CarmenSanDiego · 01/06/2009 03:37

Your friend sounds jealous, thumbwitch

Nothing wrong with skully ribbons... butI must admit I wandered around Hot Topic the other week and felt really old... especially when I saw the range of neon tutus!

lowenergylightbulb · 01/06/2009 06:38

YANBU - I have my hair in 2 plaits as I type. Looks cool IMHO.

Longtalljosie · 01/06/2009 06:45

It's all about whether you can work the look I reckon. I always looked silly with plaits / bunches, even when I was a student. I'd give it a go and then sigh, take them back out and do my hair as normal. But some women look fab with them.

YANBU. I wear bunches all the time. I go for the side parting / low bunch look because my hair is long and I think long buches high on the head CAN look a bit like floppy dog ears!! I'm 29, but as it is apparantly ridiculous on any over 20, that doesn't seem relevent!! It is also more cofortable and doesn't oull at the roots as much as a high ponytail.

Some people can't pull it off. But hey, their loss!

OrmIrian · 01/06/2009 08:21

Unreasonable? No.

But I might have a quite snigger if I saw you

However I think we all have a responsibility to give stray members of the public a good laugh occassionally. And not give a stuff!

TrillianAstra · 01/06/2009 08:28

Re ribbons with skulls on - you don't need t go to the Goth shop, I'm sure they have them in Claire's Accessories!

noddyholder · 01/06/2009 09:13

No skulls and need a feminine pretty face

littlelamb · 01/06/2009 09:23

I agree about looking like Nina of the neurons fame warning- this picture also contains Granny Murray
2 very scary ladies.
BUT I do agree that some women can get away with plaits and even princess Leia. I know this fabulous lady and she's still rocking that look 30 years later

cthea · 01/06/2009 09:24

It's a look that even 4.bp.blogspot.com/_1yh6LksXsN8/ST1LcC4Mt0I/AAAAAAAAAjE/9oduSpqzHms/s320/borat.jpgmen can manage well
