to be fed up of this bloody weather?

It's boiling hot.

I have red hair and pale skin and I really dislike the feeling of hot weather.

I have bad hayfever.

This weather pisses me off so much - if it's cold you can put another jumper on, or turn the heating up, but there is NO ESCAPE from the heat.

I feel woozy and heavy-legged. My eyes are either stinging from sun cream or itching with hayfever. I look shit in summer clothes and I can't wear heels. My ankles and feet are swollen and I'm not even pregnant.

And yet because I have a DD I have to get out and DO stuff which makes me feel worse, rather than being at home with the curtains closed, which is what I really want to do. And it's not fair to DD who is a real outdoor girl and loves it.

The thought of a long summer of this is making me feel very depressed.

I know I'm being a bit of a drama queen, and am probably being a bit unreasonable, but the fetishisation of the hot weather in this country pisses me off (and I needed a rant).

YANBU. I hate the heat as well, definatly up for alaska trip
I have hayfever, a 6 month old who I am desperatly trying to keep cool, a 5 year old who loves it but HATES suncream, a huge amount of baby weight to loose and a house whose heat seems to be on a parr with that of the sun.
I wrote on another thread that i like wearing summer dresses, I do but i am a miserable cow whehn i am hot.
Oh yeah and I find trying to sleep on hot nights UNBEARABLE.

hazeyjane · 01/06/2009 13:45

27 degrees sounds quite hot to me!

If someone tells me they hate the cold and winter makes them miserable, I don't tell them to put on a jumper and go for a brisk walk. It's different strokes for different folks!

angelene · 01/06/2009 13:45

reach4sky it bloody is unbearable if you're not cut out for the heat! I think people really underestimate how debilitating the heat can be. Anything mid-20s upwards and I get heavy-legged, lacking in energy and generally grumpy. I would love to be able to enjoy the warmth and the sun but it's not possible for me.

reach4sky · 01/06/2009 13:50

Well I hate the heat but I really count that as soemthing 32C upwards. While the top todaywill be 27C, that is only for a short time in the afternoon with an overnight low of 10C. So the mornings and evenings are cool.

Stigaloid · 01/06/2009 13:54

The outside temp may be cool but the house has had all day to heat up - at night our house is still around the 25/26 mark and make sit uncomfortable to sleep. We have to have a fan on to keep us cool and can't have window open as pollen in air just makes all those in my house sneeze and have tingly throats and noses throughout the night.

I also get very vivid nightmares when i get too hot to sleep and makes for sleepless un-fun nights.

OrmIrian · 01/06/2009 13:54

Angelene I love seeing the sun and blue skies but I too struggle with heat. But I still love the feeling of being able to out with fewer clothes and sit in the garden - even though I have to escape to the gloom on indoors fairly soon

I agree re the fetisisation of hot weather angelene. When trees are dying in the drought, all the grass is brown and everything is looking dusty and dead and people still get upset when the forecast gives us rain If I wanted to live in a desert I'd move.

Have to agree with you there Bloss. There's hot and hot.

I have bad hayfever too but it would never stop me opening a window.

BarefootShirl · 01/06/2009 14:05

I love the sun and the warm weather but I do sympathise as my mother really struggles when it is hot so I can see both sides. Have to say though that after all the shite weather we have had it has been great to get out in the sunshine over the past few days.

angelene · 01/06/2009 14:23

This is so British - stop moaning, it's only 27, it's not really hot, you're just being silly, buck up, imagine what you'd be like in Australia etc etc.

If I said this sort of thing to people in mid January, I think I'd be given a right hounding.

It's easy for people who are finding it easy and pleasant and fun to say that it's easy. People really have no idea what it's like.

And as for the idea that it's cool in the evenings - what?! The heat builds up and doesn't seem to calm down until it gets dark - which at the moment is gone 10.

reach4sky · 01/06/2009 14:38

But Britain in mid-Jan is pretty mild too. The climate here just isn't extreme like so many places.

citronella · 01/06/2009 14:48

Initial reaction was YABU - I love the sun and heat and have waited for good weather all last winter, all last summer and all this winter gone by!
BUT I am sorry you are so uncomfortable in it and can't imagine what it must be like to have hayfever - like a permanent cold I expect.
If you are pale skinned I think navy blue, red and white outfit combinations look nice.
Can you have a small paddling pool to dip your feet in while sitting under a parasol sipping an iced drink?
On the move, howabout a little handheld battery operated fan (M&S and other do them cheap)?

FairLadyRantALot · 01/06/2009 14:50

well, yanbu...
and I say that despite loving this weather ...but I can see why you don't...so, fair dues

brightongirldownunder · 01/06/2009 15:16

I miss the heat and I say that after experiencing a summer over here of 45degrees plus. So stop thing whinging you lily livered Poms, its so cold in Sydney I'd be happy to fly over tomorrow!
To the OP - I do understand your plight though.Wear loose cotton kaftans and put a bottle of frozen water infront of a fan - the cool air is truly wonderful. I suffer from hayfever too, though since I moved over here it seems to have disappeared (not much help, sorry)

HelloBeastie · 01/06/2009 15:38

YANBU at all! I have skin so pale it's transparent, and hay fever too. Not to mention being chubby (size 18) and sweaty and not looking good in any summer clothes.

And then having to deal with everyone's expectations that you will be Outside Doing Something Nice On This Lovely Day (as my mother's voice echoes down the decades...)

When its cold and raining we moan that its cold and can't wait for the summer.

When its hot we moan that its too hot.

We are never happy

I also suffer from hayfever which effects my Eczema around my eyes, which makes my eyes red and puffy.

I am sun burnt from taking the kids to the beach on sat (which i know is my fault).

I still love the summer and i hope it continues.

angelene · 01/06/2009 15:55

Oh well, I tried

Still reckon we could do a MN trip to Alaska for all the wimps.

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 01/06/2009 16:46

Actually I quite like rain....

hazeyjane · 01/06/2009 19:10

Thats the point i don't moan when it rains, or is cold (I loved the snow, despite being stuck inside for nearly a week), or windy or dull, grey and damp, I even like bright, sunny BREEZY spring days.

I just don't like it when it is hot - I know it's not as hot as Australia, or the Sahara, but it's hot enough to suffer.......

....

Sorry, about that.

Oliveoil · 02/06/2009 13:57

ha, you don't know the meaning of the word hot

it has just started into winter in Australia and today is has been 24 degrees and sunny

bring it on I say

I love the sun

macaco · 02/06/2009 14:23

will get to 45 degrees here by July, so count yourself lucky.

onagar · 02/06/2009 14:28

I hate the heat too. Will be glad when it's over. It's ok for 5 minutes then the novelty wears off.

posieparker · 02/06/2009 14:40

YABU.... . At 32 wks pg I endured 38 degrees, I was very chubby in my pg too and so my legs rubbed together and I had to wear trousers.... This I did with my three dcs and no DH or driver (no car really during the week). All in the humid sticky heat.

Although no hayfever as the pollen in Asia doesn't affect me.

ipanemagirl · 02/06/2009 14:42

YANBU!
I am pale, interesting and hanging on to a good bit of my post baby fat.
I loved the heat last summer because I bought a load of nice summer maternity stuff and felt as if I looked good.
Now my paltry summer wardrobe is lost in the loft and will all emphasise my HorrorTum. Now I hesitate to buy any clothes because I can't accept that I'm going to stay this size now dd is 8 months old! Very frustrating.
But I think the key is to have a good summer wardrobe and then even if you're in the shade you feel presentable!

I love/hate the sun, love to be in it, hate to be seen in it.

us poor english roses!
also a dear friend of ours died of skin cancer 3 years ago and he was as pale as me but spent his life burning to get honey coloured. My dad has had skin cancer too so I can't really just lie in it!
