to be annoyed that my husband has made no effort for my birthday?

It is both mine and my DH's birthdays in May. His at the beginning of the month and mine today. I'm now 31

For his birthday, he refused to take the day off work but I tried to make it special anyway but organising his parents to babysit and taking him out for a suprise meal at a reseraunt he loves in the evening. I bought a special "Daddy" card and had our son draw in it for him and got him a couple of presents.

Today, it's my birthday. He admitted last night that he'd not taken the day off and would be going to work - great. I got up with our DS this morning to find he'd slipped a card in his cot but not a speacial "Mummy" one, it's a cheap, nasty, 50p from Tesco's card that I kept in a box of wrapping paper etc for emergencies when I've forgotten to get a card so obviously he'd forgotten to get one and had paniced. There is no card from him.

Added the this, DS nappy was full of black, sticky, stinky poo this morning which did absolutely nothing for my morning sickness (I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant), DS is in a bad mood (was a ray of sunshine yesterday!!) and refused to eat any breakfast, the fire alarm battery is dying so the alarm keeps cheeping and there is no way I can reach it to stop it and it's raining

All my friends are busy and DH works an hour away from home so there is no way I'm going to get a suprise visit at lunchtime.

I asked him last night if I needed to clean the house for babysitters but apparently I don't

DH works really hard and supports us all so that I can be a SAHM and I appreciate that totally but is it really too much to ask to have a little bit of extra thought or effort on my birthday?

Glad you're having a good day squirrels

DH is usually better at birthdays etc but was just rubbish on this occasion which is why I felt so upset. Normally, he would have taken the day off and we'd have done something special together. Not sure what's happened this year.

He still hasn't gotten back with my pressie so I'm waiting with baited breath. And the in-laws have been round with some lovely, new maternity clothes for me in the meantime

good on the inlaws, hope the present is a good one.
My ex was always crap at birthdays, at least I don't have that disappointment wny more.

Morloth · 27/05/2009 19:12

I gave up years ago.

I now keep a wishlist on Amazon and organised my own party on Saturday. We were both unhappy when he would forget or not measure up. He loves me but is crap at this sort of stuff, so now I please myself.

For his birthday he also keeps an Amazon wishlist up. He doesn't get anything special though, if he wants something he sorts it himself.

He is forgiven.

He has bought me a Netbook (like a mini sized laptop) which means I can get to the internet when he is home and has taken over the PC and talk to you guys for longer

Now to order my take-out...

a net-book is pretty impressive

fortyplus · 27/05/2009 20:09

My dh once bought me a pruning saw for my birthday

SarahL2 · 27/05/2009 20:27

I got a Kitchen Aid food mixer for my 30th. I do love cooking though

He did completely forget a card but I think the present makes up for it. I love it when he panic shops

I'm not alone then! My birthday was monday and despite sending two e-mail links and showing a catalogue picture of a £10 thing that would be good for the dcs to "give" me, dh admitted on sunday night that he hadn't got me anything! I expressed some disappointment and anger (to say the least ). Pointed out the length of time dh can spend thinking about tents/campsites/roofbars/anything else he finds important, amount of stress I'd be under recently due to his family etc etc. Eventually he agreed to pick it up after work.

Like the others used to this, I set my sights low and we are short of cash so it really is the thought that matters BUT that was lacking as usual... And dcs are of the age when they expect mummy to be opening parcels and having parties on her birthday so it's as much for them as me.

However, DD (aged 8) managed to mix up ingredients for a coffee cake for me and ice it herself - was fantastic and the best thing about the day . Dh was late home after shopping trip and then had to work in the evening. Just as well we have been together a long time and have three dcs or he'd be dumped!

SOrry, meant to say Happy Birthday to everyone too xx

lalalonglegs · 28/05/2009 09:39

Oooh, a netbook. My husband bought me a desk tidy one year and I don't love tidying .

You should hold out hope that he might have something planned in the next few days. However, if he is anything like mine, you will still be waiting. I'm still waiting for my 21st present from DH. I will be 23 in a few weeks time. Apparently "it's still at his sister's," which is code for "I spent all my money on beer and didn't have any left for a present"

I'm still waiting for my Christmas present as well. "I asked Sam to order it for me and he has clearly forgotten" is his excuse.

I just don't expect anything for my birthday anymore, not even a card.

LittleOneMum · 28/05/2009 12:35

I think the way to do it is to accept that men are just a bit useless. In the run up to my birthday I say "Hey, it's my birthday in X weeks. I REALLY hope that DS gets me a card" followed by 2 days later "Hey, it's my birthday in X weeks. I really hope DS gets me a card and that we can go out for dinner that night" etc, repeated ad nauseam until DH says 'Hey, how do we book babysitters again?" and I know it's about to be done... The weekend before my birthday this year I even told DH that he needed some special time alone with DS that weekend to do 'secret birthday shopping' - worked a treat! and to be honest DH is usually very grateful for all the tips...

SarahL2 · 28/05/2009 13:56

Lol littleone I do use this tactic but think it spoils the actual suprise a bit.

I know I wouldn't have gotten a card from DS had I not mentioned them needing time to make one the night before!!

Men are rubbish!

It's me - I'm cursed!

I've got a night out with the girls tonight and morning sickness has me being sick this afternoon!! Not sure I can face going. Even the smell of DS and DH's dinner cooking is making me gag!!!

They don't all know so I can't turn up looking green without an excuse.

Very fed up
