...in her bed?

DH took dcs to MIL for the night and I asked him not to let them sleep with her in her bed as I think they are too old now, BUT I now find out that ds (6) did in fact sleep in her bed and dd on the floor on her ready bed.

I know I let them sleep with me when ill or dh is away but to me that feels different - would like to hear other opinions before i rant at dh please

I slept with my Nana when I stayed at her house until I was about 12.

They are fond and special memories - she told me stories until I fell asleep.

It was wonderful.

cocolepew · 25/05/2009 18:16

I had to share a bed with my Gran until I was a teenager, there was no where else for nme to sleep. It wasn't a problm at all.

whiskersonkittens · 25/05/2009 19:09

Actually RCB I think you may be right there - I am feeling a teensy bit that they should want to sleep with anyone but me ..... I love snuggling up to them

I must stop myself and let others know that joy and it is great to hear what a treat it is for them too

I am really glad that they had a fab time - so good that we are planing a week long trip in the summer hols for each of them.

Don't be silly

Ronaldinhio · 25/05/2009 19:17

I used to sleep with my granny or auntie when I was younger and LOVED IT. I'm not so sure that they felt the same way though tbh!!

FairLadyRantALot · 25/05/2009 19:29

hm...I remember being far older then your kids and sleeping in with my grandma....I used to love snuggling with her and listening to her stories...have very fond memory's of my lovely grandma....

so, I think YABU big time, and a bit odd to mind so much...especially a 6 year old is basically still a Baby, really....

dal21 · 25/05/2009 19:51

Oh YABU!

I loved cuddling in with my granny when I was little! My nephew (7) still insists on cuddling up with my mum when he sees her. He absolutely loves it.

Something is horribly wrong when people think there is something sinister about that.

bella39 · 25/05/2009 19:58

YABU

Get therapy.

If your children enjoy cuddling their gran, allow them to enjoy that, and don't foist your own hang ups on to them.

luvoneson · 25/05/2009 20:12

Sounds completely normal to me. Its their nan at the end of the day - family

pollywobbledoodle · 25/05/2009 20:16

i shared a bed at nan's until i was 12...i can still conjure up the smell of rosewater on the sheets and the vision of her getting her corsets on and off....she used to pretend to crumple into a heap as she took it off

wheelsonthebus · 25/05/2009 20:24

i love it when my dc (5) sleeps with grandma..think it's great bonding for both. (tho there are always complaints that grandma snores . I hope it goes on til dc is 9/10.

soopermum1 · 25/05/2009 22:59

YABU. I used to share a bed with my Nana every Saturday night until I was quite old. We both used to wear our rollers (to look our best for Mass the next day) and Granda would bring us tea and toast in bed in the morning while we lay there and listened to music from the 1940s on the radio. Can't remember the show or channel but it always finished with the song' The Party's Over'. Ah, lovely days.

If the kids like it, it's a great way of spending time with Granny having a chat and chiling out at the beginnnig or end of the day before things ge all hectic and there's no time just to chat.

dizietsma · 25/05/2009 23:01

Ha! BIL is still sharing with MIL. He's almost 14... Now THAT'S too old. And creepy.

4andnotout · 25/05/2009 23:03

My dd's sleep in my parents bed sometimes, in fact when we were camping this weekend i jumped in with my mum when my dad got out (it was warm and she had the tv on!)

Cadmum · 25/05/2009 23:06

I think it's lovely that their grandmother would have them in bed with her.

I am as neither grandparents would even babysit let alone have our children for the night.

To each their own but for me they are only little for such a short period of time and when they are too old they will say so themselves.

juneybean · 25/05/2009 23:06

I still share a bed with my mum/nanna (23)

steviesgirl · 26/05/2009 02:42

Are you serious? Too old?! I'd understand your concerns if they were 12 and 14!

I remember getting in bed with my elderly nan when I was about 10, never thought anything of it.

YAB strangely U!

stuffitlllama · 26/05/2009 03:28

yabu but you're not weird for thinking it, just not what you are used to

lots of bed sharing in our house, eldest is a young teenager, one is a girl, and sometimes all three go in mahoosive bed together, lots of random mix-ups when dh or one of the children is away

they just talk and then they conk out

there is no cuddling, god, they fight a LOT during the day, but they just read, talk, sleep, sometimes put pillows down the middle of the bed, as in "that's MY space, get on your own side" etc etc

I am just wondering about the too old thing though

Anyway with Grandma, six and eight, it wouldn't occur to me to be troubled, in fact anything under 10

over ten I would think, maybe not

stuffitlllama · 26/05/2009 03:29

except daughters and grandmas -- wouldn't really trouble me at all whatever age really

alipiggie · 26/05/2009 03:38

So as I'm an older mum and in my 40's is it wrong for my boys to sleep with me then . Seriously I have no problem with it and never will (well only when they snore). Long may it last.

isenhart7 · 26/05/2009 03:57

My dd still sleeps with Nan when we visit and dd's almost 20!

whiskersonkittens · 27/05/2009 15:39

Alipigie I am my 40's too - MIL is 80!

My MIL gave up on this. DD1 had a plastic sheet on her bed until she was almost 7, which stopped MIL wanting into her bed. Then MIL got nits, from an unidentified grandchild.
