Are you being serious? Are you sure they are not just names attached to various age groups?

it might just mean those who need extra help using the potty and feeding themselves, that sort of thing?

Gracie123 · 11/05/2009 16:26

OMG!! I could sort of understand streaming by personality type (quiet ones in here, boisterous ones over there) but that is ridiculous!

I live in the public school where my hubby teaches and our pre-prep is definately not streamed. In fact we don't stream kids for most subjects until 3rd form (yr 9).

I think this is totally unacceptable. She should change nursery, but should also write them a letter explaining why.

Twims · 11/05/2009 16:26

We had names for the rooms at our nursery - chances are there are 3 toddler rooms called horses, rabbits and piglets - Well I would hope so - OFSTED would not be impressed if this is not the case.

littlerach · 11/05/2009 16:27

That's kind of against the whole EYFS thing, never mind Ofsted

How awful.

Reallytired · 11/05/2009 16:30

Streaming is truely and utterly nuts at 15 months. I can't blame your friend for changing nursery.

I suppose that the the only blessing is that the kids probably don't have a clue what is going on.

Wallace · 11/05/2009 16:38

At first I was

And then I wondered are they atually talking about walking ability? Like grouping non-walkers/walkers/runners sereately?

Twims · 11/05/2009 16:56

I thought that Wallace, in the old birth to three they had

Heads Up, Lookers and Communicators (0-8 months)

Sitters, Standers and Explorers (8-18 months)

Movers, Shakers and Players (18 - 24 months)

Walkers, Talkers and Pretenders (25-36 months)

squeaver · 11/05/2009 16:59

Ridiculous.

Name and shame the nursery, dilemma

Ripeberry · 11/05/2009 17:03

But if they are private, do they follow the EYFS? But yes, i would pull my child out of there pronto!

Gracie123 · 11/05/2009 18:07

Not sure about EYFS but we certainly have to deal with OFSTED (even though private)

Urgh. Streaming at that age is very sad, and why on earth animals? Piglets? Oof!

wickedwitch81 · 11/05/2009 20:33

I'm in a private day nursery and we follow the EYFS..

Shouldn't be streaming at this age!!

simpson · 11/05/2009 20:35

My DD is 15mths and I would be so and [shocked] at her being streamed TBH.

Not suprised your friend is moving her DD, I would do the same in her shoes.

sparkle12mar08 · 11/05/2009 22:13

She has to inform Ofsted, this is just appalling. Please try and get her to consider it, the school really should not be allowed to get away with this. The connotations are just awful.

Ripeberry · 12/05/2009 09:29

Yes Ofsted need to be told, then they can come out and tell them to stop it! And give them guidance on how it should be done.
With the EYFS, it should be mostly child led and the staff make obsevations on what the child does, can do and what the next step will be to encourage that development.
So they are learning all the time whilst having fun.
Which is what school should be about.

katiestar · 12/05/2009 13:41

I wonder how they think they can assess intelligence at 15m ?

katiestar · 12/05/2009 13:54

Have looked at all private schools listed on Yell in W Midlands and none take children below 18m.Come on give us another clue ?

Divineintervention · 12/05/2009 13:58

Sounds like a shit school who know little or nothing about education.

Rollmops · 12/05/2009 14:35

Hmm, do Haberdashers have nurseries attached?

RedandGreenPlaid · 13/05/2009 21:38

Is this for real Dilemma? My DS is registered for that nursery, for when I go back to work...

Bounder · 13/05/2009 23:58

Is this the prep school whose slogan is "tomorrow`s leaders" (snort!). Says it all really.

BitOfFun · 14/05/2009 00:27

Why the two threads? I still think this sounds like nonsense.
