Why on earth do you need an entertainer? What's wrong with just playing party games?

FrankMustard · 11/05/2009 12:27

I second that - save your cash and entertain the kids yourself!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 11/05/2009 12:27

I don'tthink the OP wanted a debate about the pros and cons of organised entertainment. My DD had an entertaienr for her 5th birthday and it was fab, a lot less stressful for me as well seeing as we had 40 kids. I'm not local though sorry so can't help.

Fimbo · 11/05/2009 12:29

Children's entertainers are a good send if you are shy and retiring like me!

Sorry not local, so can't help.

FrankMustard · 11/05/2009 12:30

Sorry - didn't mean to sound judgey! just thought that if OP getting anxious about the situation, it's easy enough to just organise something herself - grab some craft activity things from Hobbycraft etc and get them all making puppets, or animal masks, or something else for the age group.

londonone · 11/05/2009 12:30

Well if you don't want a debate don't post on AIBU. Quite frankly I thought it was a piss take.

FrankMustard · 11/05/2009 12:34

Oh yes, I just realised it was AIBU and not a chatty thread.
In that case YABU!
....pass the parcel, musical chairs, making things, decorating their own cakes, paper plate drawings.....

iheartdusty · 11/05/2009 12:37

to the OP - I think you are being optimistic about the price. I have used entertainers about 4 times - we are in South-East but not London - and would not expect to pay less than about £150. For that, though, I would expect them to run the whole party except for the tea.

Could you look into getting a bouncy castle into the venue instead? They often will fit into church halls etc.

What age group?

I just couldn't believe that anyone would seriously pay for an entertainer for a kiddies party!

3 Adults 35 kids, you'll be fine. Children are quite slow at doing things so games etc often take longer than you might think!

Every party my ds or dd have ever been to in a hall has had an entertainer or bouncy castle.

Megglevache · 11/05/2009 13:02

Well we had 35 kids last year and their parent too(as the children were 3/4 they didn't drop off. I didn't really want the parents to have to do anything) I wanted them to relax a bit so I hired one.

It was brilliant/he was super entertaining for parents too (as he wasn't naff) and I just sat back and faffed with the food/cake (my fave bit)
If the children were older I'd just take lots of games/raquets/beach balls etc and turf them out in the garden with an inflatable.

We used a guy who was amazing I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Megglevache · 11/05/2009 13:05

Reality I've seen him, he is quite good isn't he, a bit old skool?

We used Josh from Joshing around. He's like a Saturday Kid's Tv presenter. Fab.

Mr Marvel's quite good and there's lots of them, so you might find someone with short notice.

titchy · 11/05/2009 13:12

Just cut the party short by an hour! 1.5 hrs for a party is fine.

Hetfield · 11/05/2009 13:15

We used this company a couple of years ago and the young guy they sent us was brilliant might be worth contacting them -www.dnakids.co.uk. I'm afraid I can't remember how much they cost though.

Megglevache · 11/05/2009 13:15

ahhh yes he's very Royal Variety old skool My ds was captivated.

Ooops didn't put a space in between- thanks

josh

I am mystified by the idea of 35 kids at a birthday party. That would make 35 weekends of the year spent at other's birthday parties, no? Is this madness?
