No, not all children have parties back.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 11/05/2009 13:55

DD had that many kids when she was in reception as we invited the whole class, plus a few non-school friends. It was early on in the year and she hadn't really made any close friends yet so we invited the lot! Thankfully we didn't ge 35 invites back.

I'm lucky - ds's reception class has only 19 and even then we only invited the boys for his 5th party as he didn't want any girls.
I can see that entertaining 35 kids is a tall order. How about getting the other parents on board and getting them to earn their keep rather than just sitting on the sidelines drinking tea and nattering? Am sure they wouldn't mind pitching in a bit and that way you could entertain them all and have a parent per group of, say 7 children, so it didn't get too out of hand?

Another vote for Mr Marvel - I used him for DS2s one-and-only Hall party (4th Birthday).

We had Martin Mr Marvel.

Miss Sunny Good idea to post on AIBU - you get lots of replies!

I would not attempt a party for 35 myself, but then I am not a teacher and I am a wuss.

londonone · 11/05/2009 17:57

I suppose being a teacher does help!!!! Guilty as charged. Sorry if I was a bit judgey! It's just "in my day" no one ever had anything so fancy as an entertainer!!

screamingabdab · 11/05/2009 20:13

Aha, I knew it londonone!!

I have only had one "big" party for each of my DSs, that's it now (too expensive)

zazizoma · 11/05/2009 20:27

My dc are still small, oldest is 3 and some, and I'm slightly horrified by a future of party planning for 35 kids per gig. How do you decide when to have a "big one"? What's the expectation?

Clary · 11/05/2009 20:32

zazizoma don't worry, IME a party for 35 kids is massively the exception.

To the OP, 2hrs is fine for a party, maybe for future ref. I have only had them longer if we are going somewhere (eg to cinema, which itself lasts 2hrs).

I think an entertainer for 35 4-5 yos is a fine idea

No suggestions tho sorry (not local to you)

Misssunny if you do end up with games, make sure you have something for quieter ones to do.

I recall a party for DD with about 25 children where some of them spent the entire time colouring and decorating some colouring sheets I had printed from t'internet.

thomsc · 11/05/2009 22:25

I used to work for an excellent agency who will be able to find someone, but £120 is actually not a bad price at all.

thomsc · 11/05/2009 22:30

I'm in Herne Hill btw - very close.

I worked for Missing Link Productions

You might also try Mr Twizzle (not sure of the name... sorry)

screamingabdab · 12/05/2009 18:01

zazizoma the expectation is to do what you want to do (don't for goodness sake get sucked into the idea that unless you do X Y or Z you will be a social pariah, or your kids will think you don't love them

IMO, it's nice to have a big party at some time, often people do it in Reception as a way to get to know all the kids.

Having said that, I never had any more than 20 kids.
