DH did dinner tonight and said he didn't fancy roasts or mash I said wtf! Followed by huge tirade! Am I being a c**t to say what I said, which were DH words to me

yeah if he cooked dinner adn you unleased a tirade at him.

YABU and rude.

I would be furious if dp criticised my choice of dinner - he would be cooked his own after that.

Potato waffles are not what I would choose with dinner but if you're not cooking and you don't have allergies then its extremely rude to criticise let alone release a tirade.

moondog · 10/05/2009 20:57

Calling your dw a cunt is rather OTT, even if potato waffles are indeed devil's scabs.

traceybath · 10/05/2009 20:58

They're 'awfully versatile' don't you know .

Sorry - that advert just seeped into my brain years ago.

OK its not what i've put with the dinner but you could have been more tactful.

mrsmaidamess · 10/05/2009 20:59

Well imo, there aint much on earth potato waffles don't go with. So YABU.

They're waffly versatile.

thisisyesterday · 10/05/2009 20:59

it's unusual. but if he was cooking and that's what he fancied then so be it!
so erm, I'd say you were being a bit ungrateful

namebacon · 10/05/2009 21:01

He didn't fancy roasts or mash (more like he couldn't be bothered to peel the spuds) - I bet he always fancies roasts or mash if you're doing it.

mayorquimby · 10/05/2009 21:02

yabu for launching a tirade against someone who just cooked you dinner because you disagreed with wether or not a part of the meal was appropriate.

ravenAK · 10/05/2009 21:03

It sounds a bit def con one all round tbh - what with you wtf'ing & him calling you a cunt.

I'd assume 'didn't fancy' roast or mashed = 'couldn't be arsed with the peeling' though, so i'd be a bit underwhelmed too.

MUM23ASD · 10/05/2009 21:25

YANBU...just as if my husband dared serve me up sprouts with any meal other than a roast...he'd regret it. (certain foods ONLY GO WITH CERTAIN FOODS!)

Dillydaydreamer · 10/05/2009 21:59

I didn't call DH that, he called me it for questioning his choice of potato! He let out the tirade about my question, not me!

OP posts:
Dillydaydreamer · 10/05/2009 22:03

I think thats what infuriated me tbh, as he always wolfs down roasts or mash when I cook them. I felt 'didn't fancy = couldn't be arsed'.

Oh I love potato waffles

[working class]

snickersnack · 10/05/2009 22:08

Blimey, sounds like there must be more to this than choice of processed potato product? I wouldn't necessarily think of serving waffles with lamb and veg, but I do rather love them, so probably wouldn't be too upset if dh served them up.

Dillydaydreamer · 10/05/2009 22:15

I love them too...with bacon, egg chips and beans. With cheese on for lunch or with fishfingers, chicken goujons etc. They just don't go with sunday luch

OP posts:
Dillydaydreamer · 10/05/2009 22:16

snicker you are right there is more than potato to this, it was the last straw.

Pingpong · 10/05/2009 22:20

If my DH ever coooked I'd just be grateful and not say anything BUT YANBU somethings go and other don't. I have very fixed ideas about what goes. My mother thinks that stir fried veg goes with a bit of boiled gammon I think boiled gammon goes with pototoes and stir fried veg go with noodles or rice.
I agree I think he couldn't be @rsed peeling spuds.

LovingtheSilverFox · 10/05/2009 22:21

YANBU, if the choice of potato was discussed before cooking commenced.

My bro once lived in university digs with a chap who would cook Waffles and then also do mashed potatoes, he flatly refused to believe waffles and mash were one and the same!

Hulababy · 10/05/2009 22:22

I think YABU for complaining about the dinner. Yes, waffles probably not the bets choice but they are still potato so do kind of go with meat and veg, Not as nice as roasts though. But he was cooking so he gets to chose.

However he was definitely being unreasonable for the tirade and the language, Definitely out of order and would not be happy at all.

sobanoodle · 10/05/2009 22:42

if my dh cooked lamb shoulder for me i'd not notice what went with it, I'd be so shocked at not having cooked it myself...

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 10/05/2009 22:50

Well I guess if your DH now refuses to ever cook again you couldn't blame him. I do think you were been unreasonable to say wtf and have a huge tirade against him. He shouldn't have called you a c* but guess he was a bit pissed off with you.

I'm now craving a potato waffle and haven't had one in 20 years!

hf128219 · 10/05/2009 22:51

Snob!

FrankMustard · 10/05/2009 22:55

well, my MIL ONLY ever serves potato waffles and so it's more a case of "what do you want with your waffles?" if we're at her house!

mrsboogie · 10/05/2009 23:00

hmmm lamb wouldn't be my first choice of accompaniment to a nice waffle, but you haven't lived until you've tried one in a white bread sandwich with melted cheese and tomato ketchup...

mumeeee · 10/05/2009 23:28

YABU, He cooked your dinner and wafles go very well with that meal.

JoPie · 11/05/2009 16:08

Waffles go with everything! And I'd be happy that he cooked me some lamb, so a bit U.
But his reaction seems over the top too.
I'm with other peeps, sounds like this wasn't just about waffles?
