to think that posters who self-importantly "call 'troll'!" at perfectly realistic thread scenarios, are the bane of Mumsnet?

If there is a thread that deals with something quite likely and pertinent to quite a few people's lives, who cares that you personally don't think it 'rings true'? Not everyone lives the same kind of life as you.

Just don't contribute! If you're that bored, don't bore me.

i believe 80% of statistics to be erroneous and contrived

PacificDogwood · 09/05/2009 23:21

What gets to me is how these troll threads keep on going and going and going! Once somebody has been outed as a troll surely the thing to do is to ignore them? But people do get v angry at them and things tend to get even more heated.

daftpunk · 09/05/2009 23:22

i believe i can fly

policywonk · 09/05/2009 23:22

I've never accused anyone of trolling. I can't see why anyone would - don't understand the impulse.

I did accuse SolidGold of impersonating herself once, though.

YanknCock · 09/05/2009 23:23

DP, does that extend to real life? Do you think 80% of the people you meet in real life are lying to you? Or is it only on the internet that you have a high level of suspicion?

Seriously not having a go at you, I am curious!

scottishmummy · 09/05/2009 23:25

trolls bitty like spicy NikNnaks.toxic but cannot resist.again and again

PacificDogwood · 09/05/2009 23:26

I believe 80% of people quating statistics are making them up

PacificDogwood · 09/05/2009 23:26

Quoting, goddammit, quoting!!

daftpunk · 09/05/2009 23:27

yankncock; >

RL is different isn't it...you have the person standing in frount of you....on the internet you can be anyone...make up any crap.

toddlerama · 09/05/2009 23:28

Scottish Mummy, I want to be able to buy a little book of your sayings. Get MNHQ on it!

scottishmummy · 09/05/2009 23:29

sm...do you only post on mumsnet when you're drunk?...100% of the time

scottishmummy · 09/05/2009 23:34

the cautionary tale is have a bit of savvy.words on a screen exercise some caution before volunteering your family history/phone no/email

you hopefully wouldn't tell a burd on a bus all your details so dont tell a stranger on internet

YanknCock · 09/05/2009 23:36

Thank you. I was told 'first name posters don't last', so I changed to my and DH's pub quiz team name. I've been chatting on the internet in various places for years and years, and this is the first place I haven't used my first name.

Goes to my philosophy that the internet is an extension of RL. It never occurred to me to pretend to be, or even name myself, anything that wasn't true.

DP, you are right. 'On the internet you can be anyone...make up any crap'. You can, but I don't believe the majority of people do. Do you behave in a way that is inconsistent with who you are in real life?

scottishmummy · 09/05/2009 23:38

DP 100% of time on MN am cognizant of relevent issues but only post 32% of time

FlappytheBat · 09/05/2009 23:40

Was talking about the ec situation, 'they' seemed genuine and non-troll like and were posting for quite a while before they were found out.

I learned the hard way about disclosing too much information and now I am much more wary about what I divulge on here.

scottishmummy · 09/05/2009 23:43

the EC troll was an adult purporting to be an adolescent.bizzare.MN yes exercise some caution with any open forum

daftpunk · 09/05/2009 23:44

YC; no not at all..i'm exactly the same in RL as i am on here, (i'm actually very nice)..i just have quite strong opinions and don't give up easily...i should just walk away from threads, but i can't..i have to reply...i know i'm not popular or liked on here...which is a shame because i like mumsnet...i would deffo leave if enough people wanted it....hate to be seen as the annoying drunk at the wedding.

PacificDogwood · 09/05/2009 23:46

I heart DP

Strong opinions is what we need on here - polite waffle I can get in RL enough!

Thank you and good night!

daftpunk · 09/05/2009 23:48

sm; i wish you'd stop talking like rab.c. nesbitt...i can't understand you.

anyway..i'm 100% knackered...off to bed

kiss kiss

scottishmummy · 09/05/2009 23:48

sweet jesus dont turn this into a MN gushathon, barftastic name checking

daftpunk · 09/05/2009 23:49

hey..PD...i love you!

YanknCock · 09/05/2009 23:51

See that's the thing I find very interesting, DP. You yourself say you are consistent between RL and the internet---yet you believe the majority of posters are not? Just doesn't seem logical.

And to clarify, treating the internet as an extension of real life doesn't mean I am not cautious about disclosing some personal details. I don't put anything out on MN or other sites that I'm not generally okay with people knowing in RL. You do need to keep your guard up in both 'places'.

solidgold said it better before, about not investing more than you can afford to lose. Good advice for both the internet and RL!
