To be bitter that M&S are charging more for bigger bras?

bustylarue · 06/05/2009 11:21

its a DM article

M&S are charging £2 extra on bras that are a DD or bigger. Am I right to be bitter about this? I don't get a discount on my shortarse trousers that use less fabric than longer length. They don't charge extra for clothes that are a size 16 or over. I am a 30E, I am sure that my bras will use less fabric than a 40C but I will be charged extra. It just seems a bit inconsistent.

Busts4Justice

YANBU, M&S have made a big boob doing this.

MadameCastafiore · 06/05/2009 11:28

I for one will not buy a bra in M&S again - bloody cheek - can you imagine if all clothes over, say a 14, cost more because they use more fabric!

StercusAccidit · 06/05/2009 11:31

Weeeeeeeell....theoretically there's more hammock material involved.....

Don't mind me i'm just jealous

YANBU, i am very tall and can't believe how much extra i get charged for a few extra inches on the leg.

Rather add those few inches to me norks tbh

jeee · 06/05/2009 11:33

If their DD bras actually fitted I'd happily pay the extra couple of quid. As it is, I stick with more expensive brands (although only in the sales), which fit properly.

gagamama · 06/05/2009 12:36

This isn't a new thing they've just introduced, their 'DD-GG' range has always been more expensive than the smaller alternatives. I don't actually begrudge paying a little extra as the designs and tailoring are more suited to my bigger chest - there are more fastenings at the back, the straps are thicker, there is an sxtra seam in the cup. Some of them are quite pretty and they're still only half the price of other brands for bigger busts that I buy, such as Freya.

What REALLY hacks me off is when shops like Next charge MORE for their Petite ranges. MORE! Perhaps the handiwork is a little more fiddly, but not so fiddly as to apply a surcharge which doesn't apply to smaller sizes or children's clothes. (Although having said that, I seem to recall Next also charge more for bigger sized children's clothes too, which is unusual and confusing).

It is annoying though, but provided they are actually designed to hold the bigger boob and not just a supersized version of the normal bras, I don't mind too much.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/05/2009 13:06

many shops charge more for bigger bras - it is annoying but thats life

just as clothes are advertised from say £9.99 for a top, but thats a size 8/10 and if you want/need a 16/18 then it will be generally another £4

SarahL2 · 06/05/2009 13:12

I would guess my 30G's probably take up less fabric than a 40D in the same style and begrudge having to pay extra for it. If they tried this with clothes they would get slammed for being Un-PC and Fat-ist but they feel they can get away with it for bra's for some reason?!?!.

Will be sticking with doing all my bra shopping at Bravissimo. They may charge more in general but it's the same for all sizes and the fitting service is amazing!

BalloonSlayer · 06/05/2009 13:14

I can understand it. I have just joined the "Big Tits" club myself, having gone up to a DD, and my smaller bras are just not man enough for the job. There seems to be much more engineering in the bigger bras, well worth £2 I think.

I am chuffed to bits with my new bras, big enough for my mighty gazongas and with lots of support but still with small straps and a cleavage to frighten the postman.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 06/05/2009 13:16

blondes where do they do that?

I have never noticed that larger clothes are more expensive than smaller clothes.

maybe I haven't been looking?

CatsBumFace · 06/05/2009 13:17

as a 30e myself it is a non issue as they appear to only have one sports bra in my size.

LynetteScavo · 06/05/2009 13:21

No, no, they are charging less for samaller bras.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/05/2009 13:26

bella - i noticed it in dotty ps

but the catalogues are worse than shops for doing that

BigBellasBeerBelly · 06/05/2009 13:43

I don't really get the catalogues - it's probably different things for different shops.

pretty shoddy behaviour - the cost should be evened out across the range.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/05/2009 13:56

see im a lazy shopper

i like to order online and then a very nice man delivers free to me, and also picks up my returns

mumblechum · 06/05/2009 14:01

Stop bragging Bigtits

slushy06 · 06/05/2009 14:03

yanbu I saw a set in a shop and quickly changed the knickers from 20 to 10 the lady at the checkout preceded to shout and tell me that the knickers were to small for me and that I had to wear a size 18-20 with a 34f bra. I turned and walked out.

onepieceofcremeegg · 06/05/2009 14:06

Did she have any advice on your shoe size slushy as well?!

What a cow (her, not you)

I guess I will need a size 16 pair of knickers with my 32DD bra? Trouble is my bum is only a size 10. Please name and shame as I would like to go and ask the lady her further advice.

slushy06 · 06/05/2009 14:14

My dp face was a picture I had to drag him out as I did not wish to be mortified further. Primark was the shop. They seem to do that assume that women with big boobs and a small back are triangular shaped. I only order online now much easier.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 06/05/2009 14:15

oooh blondes who do you use?

I have always found the online thing a PITA.

Just ordered a mat dress for a wedding from mamas and papas and it's a bit too big, apparently I have to return it (they pay), wait for the refund and the reorder. Sounded fine on the phone until afterwards I realised reordering would mean another £5 postage .

So have decided to keep the one I've got... No-one expects high glamour at 33 weeks do they!

PersonalClown · 06/05/2009 14:23

Can I just bitch in general??

I am cursed blessed with 36FF norks, 6 ft in height and 35inch legs!!!
It costs me a bloody fortune to get stuff to fit.
And while I'm ranting....Why is petite standard in most shops yet I have to hunt high and low for a Tall range??
I can't remember the last time a dress fit properly.

and breeeeeeeeeeeeathe

IDidntRaiseAThief · 06/05/2009 14:28

m+s bras are just crap anyway

EffieGadsby · 06/05/2009 14:31

I don't have any problem with it at all, and I'm pretty much on the cusp, so with different bras I can go either way. We don't mind that the same style of sweater costs more in 6 year old size than in 3 year old size; it needn't be any different with adult sized clothes. If it uses more material, and requires more work to make the thing, it's only fair that it should cost more. Why should M&S make less profit on a bigger bra?

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/05/2009 14:32

bella - sure you will look glowing at 33 weeks

i have many, but prob use the most often classic combination, empire, marshall ward

i often order a load of tops/dresses etc and send them back

it keeps my man in a job to collect - he gets paid comission every time he delivers or collects, so im helping him pay his bills with my shopping

BigBellasBeerBelly · 06/05/2009 14:55

Oooh thanks blondes will have a leetle browse...

bustylarue · 06/05/2009 15:00

'Why should M&S make less profit on a bigger bra? '

I can see the point but M&S do make less profit on bigger sizes on all their other clothes. I think they have 2 prices for children's clothes but for adults size 8 short trousers are the same price as size 22 long. I haven't come accross shops charging more for bigger sizes before. If m&s did this on everthing I would be paying less overall because I'm short and thin. I think they should either do it on everything or not at all.
