Today rushing up the tube stairs with heavy two year old in a buggy, I nudged a man coming down. He immediately shouted agressively "WATCH IT!" I said "just trying to get this tube", he shouted "STUPID FUCKING COW!". I just looked at him him in shock, he then called me "a stupid fcking cnt" followed by telling me "there are too many f*cking kids in this world anyway, need to get rid of some", meaning dd in her buggy.

All this abuse because I nudged him with a buggy handle as I rushed for a tube.

I felt utterly helpless and humiliated. No-one said anything, although one man helped me get the buggy the rest of the way up and patted me on the shoulder as I was crying. I feel like shit, as bad I think as if he had punched me. Felt so helpless as well, there was absolutely nothing I could do except listen to it right in front of my dd. What else can you do? Not illegal is it as far as I know to disgustingly, verbally abuse a defenceless woman and toddler?

Sadly, it seems like there are some people out there who are looking for ANY excuse to vent their nasty spleens on the rest of us. It's like they go out feeling frustrated/sad/angry and anything will set them off. No censoring. A bit like a 3 year old.

Springfleurs · 05/05/2009 18:35

goodnightmoon thats revolting . Would take what happened to me today any day over that.

Nekabu I also agree with you. These are not happy people having nice lives.

CrushWithEyeliner · 05/05/2009 18:37

YOu poor thing - what a despicable thing to do and say to you. He can't know any better. Did no one help you at all?

Springfleurs · 05/05/2009 18:37

junglist.

lucylue · 05/05/2009 18:39

sorry for you goodnightmoon.
it is revolting really, what can we do to prevent this happening to us?

Springfleurs · 05/05/2009 18:39

I didn't feel that I bumped him or I would have apologised immediately. I was confused as to why he said it to be honest as I had dd and the buggy on my right and he was coming down on the left. I was actually about 5 steps past him when he shouted at me and I just turned round in confusion.

Springfleurs I don't think you need to justify not apologising to him. He sounds like the sort of person, in the sort of mood who would have had a go at you whatever happened.

whodathoughtit · 05/05/2009 18:43

Remember that you are a decent, kind person while he is an absolute twat and has to live with that every single day of his miserable life.

This does seem to be a London thing doesn't it. I have never experinced anything like this in my home town (a big Northern city) but have been jostled and shoved while pg / carrying a baby in London.

lucylue · 05/05/2009 18:44

he was a mean man Springfleurs.
he would shout to anyone, he was ready for it.

Springfleurs · 05/05/2009 18:46

You are right, there is no justification, especially not for saying the stuff about there being too many kids in the world and we needed to get rid of some. I could have knocked him down the stairs and he should never have said that .

OP posts:
brettgirl2 · 05/05/2009 18:47

Spring don't feel bad it was a heat of the moment thing. There is never any excuse for speaking to another human being like that. End of, even in a situation where you should apologise. He's clearly a pig, give it no further thought.

brettgirl2 · 05/05/2009 18:48

Lots of great minds think alike and cross post

screamingabdab · 05/05/2009 18:48

whodathoughtit I live in London, and I would say it's very variable. I have had a lot of kindness from people when pg and with the kids, but there is some kind of nasty self-centredness that come over some people during rush hour.

There are also a proportion of very unhappy or mentally ill people, which is what this man sounds like

Hope I don't sound like a loon saying this but whenever I hear a story like this I think of a line in a Crowded House song which goes 'people who have lost all heart look for someone else to blame.'

The next line is 'you just keep on walking while they call you a dirty name.'

That's all you can do I'm afraid .

Springfleurs · 05/05/2009 19:00

Very true cissy.

Got some perspective now. It was a bit horrible but as someone else said at least I don't have to go home to him. He just passed through my life for a few seconds, he, on the other hand has to live with himself forever.

chequersmate · 05/05/2009 19:00

I remember that song cissy (think it was when they were the Finn Brothers though).

cissycharlton · 05/05/2009 19:03

Quite possibly was.

Notalone · 05/05/2009 19:08

Springfleurs - what a nasty evil piece of work. You are a lovely person and you were very supportive to me on another thread and really don't deserve this. I know it has been said before but he must lead a horrible life if he behaves like this.

Pour yourself a large glass of vino tonight, put your feet up and try to forget about him if you can.

PigeonPair · 05/05/2009 19:20

What a sod! Actually he sounds a bit mad to be honest. It is so upsetting when that happens and I completely understand why the tears came! I always think of clever things to say back about half an hour later!!

kittywise · 05/05/2009 19:24

London is a vile place, so glad I'm not there any more.

wotulookinat · 05/05/2009 19:54

mee too, Kittywise. Although there must be a lot of villages missing their idiot as where I live now is full of them.
