short background
I live in a disabled access HA house
we have a hoist in the lounge
dd is 14 and has cp and needs hoisting(thats why HA had hoist put in)#hoist has gone wrong, it is not charging, so it stopped half way through lifting her!!
so monday I reported it.
I am still waiting, even though I explained(3 times) the circs.
can I ask to speak to supervissor and let rip(they get paid more than person who answers phone) I am

too bloody right 2shoes, go ballistic!

GypsyMoth · 29/04/2009 22:13

hmmmm....is the lack of hoist life threatening?

lilackaty · 29/04/2009 22:14

I would start off very pleasantly and if you get nowhere, then get very ranty. I thought hoists had been replaced by something else (although I'm not sure what).

nametaken · 29/04/2009 22:18

The hoist is very important ILoveTIFFANY - how else is a carer to move a 14 year old? Can you lift a 14 year old around?

GypsyMoth · 29/04/2009 22:23

is it life threatening tho? because out ha has policy about these things. no hot water or heating in mid winter with new baby was NOT an emergency either....thats what they say.....so,is it life threatening?

carbon monoxide/leaks ruining other properties/earthquake damage/expoased live wires.....they come straight out

what does your tenancy handbook say?

Saint2shoes · 29/04/2009 22:25

ILoveTIFFANY in a way it is, if I do my back in lifting my 14 yr old dd, then my life will be shit.
talk about a silly question.....

YANBU

There may be some reason why no-one has come out to repair it - but if there was going to be a delay HA should at least keep you informed....assuming there is a genuine reason for delay, and not just because someone forgot to put a call in to the engineer/maintenance dept

Hope you get it resolved asap though

GypsyMoth · 29/04/2009 22:27

oh ok then.....

whyme2 · 29/04/2009 22:27

I would definately chase them for some action.

nametaken · 29/04/2009 22:29

I would say no hoist was much more serious than no hot water or heating.

At least you can put extra jumpers on or get hot water from the kettle.

Saint2shoes, how have you managed so far? Don't know what on earth to suggest except DON'T LIFT HER. Can you borrow a hoist from your local hospital or a charity.

Saint2shoes · 29/04/2009 22:30

for some reason, they don't seem to know who should be doing it
I can cope school days as 2 lifts for me in the morning and 2 in the evening for dh......
but we have a 3 day weekend comming up>

OP posts:
Saint2shoes · 29/04/2009 22:32

nametaken the only way round it is to take her up stairs every time I need to hoist her(the hoist up there is ok) now that would work in the morning, but after that weekends she goes on the floor to play......so I will have to lifet her.

OP posts:
nametaken · 29/04/2009 22:33

Who actually gave you the hoist?

Saint2shoes · 29/04/2009 22:39

HA
it is a ceiling hoist
I think I am annoyed co normally they are good, when the through the floor lift(get me) went wrong, someone came out straight away.

OP posts:
nametaken · 29/04/2009 22:39

Oh I see, the hoist is one that's fixed. It's not a moveable one. Sorry, I'm a bit slow today.

SparklingSarah · 29/04/2009 22:42

could you get a pumping hoist for the interim ? give social services a ring they may help or a dedicated charity

all the same I'd really push HA to see what they plan to do and why it's taken so long.

Saint2shoes · 29/04/2009 22:47

thats ok nametaken

the other hoists are dagerous as dd has a lot of extra movements so the small maual ones could end up with her being hurt(which is why we have the ceiling one)

Then YANBU - you need your hoist urgently. Could your GP or health/social worker back you up and also put pressure on the HA? Someone must be responsible for maintaining them FGS.

chegirl · 29/04/2009 22:52

YANBU.

Bloody hell. What do they expect you to do? What do they expect DD to do?

Would a tracking system be appropriate for you? Mind you if that went wrong I expect it would take them bloody years to sort it out.

Is there anyone who can advocate on your behalf. These people often respond better to profesionals. Parents are all neurotic and whingey and make a big fuss about nothing hey? [wink}

Seriously - hope you get it sorted soon.

SparklingSarah · 29/04/2009 22:57

there are larger manual ones so if need be don't write that option off

I'd really ring social worker or GP or somesuch and tell them you need them to push the issue.

Don't suppose there is a makers label on it ?
they may help

namebacon · 05/05/2009 20:55

Was just wondering how this ended

2shoes · 05/05/2009 21:15

funny I thought this was my thread
well one week one day later it is still not working.
a man cam out last friday(it took them s days too find out what company should come out and they sent the lift one!!) the baterys have gone... so now the nice man has to go back and get the ok from the HA to replace them

FairLadyRantALot · 05/05/2009 21:32

oh what a pain....what are you doing in the meanwhile...oh...don't answer me...you are lifting her, aren't you....
really hope you can get this sorted asap, especially for your backs sake.....any chance someone could come in and at least help you, until it is sorted....?

JoPie · 05/05/2009 23:08

I would imagine its to do with the fact that its specialised equipment and has to be serviced/repaired by the installing company, and they might have trouble working out who.
Plus getting the proper authorisation to pay for the repairs...nightmare. I used to work for a hoist company, they understand the problems, it'll be the HA "liason" that will be pissing you about.
The company might be able to loan you a portable while repairs are agreed?

SparklyGothKat · 05/05/2009 23:18

It took 2 YEARS!!! for my HA to put in the extra stair rail Ds1 needed... I am not holding my breathe about when they will finally ramp the back door (which was requested at the same time as rails)

give them hell 2shoes
