JeanPoole · 29/04/2009 12:09

she loves it, we had a swim this am then we went in the jaccuzzi, we start off by letting her sit on the legde with her feet in, then she gets in and stands on the seating area.

someone told me that i shouldn't let her go in it today, but we have gone in there loads of times before.
never harmed her in anyway
she dosn't swallow the water or anything and i don't think its too hot.

what do you think?

mp, put the scissors down sweetheart. i've told you about that before.

yeah but MP it's just rude not to obey the rules if people ask you to.

If you want to use a spa then find one that does allow small children. Apparently they do exist (according to this thread).

Maybe that old lady specifically went to this spa because she didn't want to share a pool with pissy toddlers?

Maybe she has a small child phobia? Who knows?

I get annoyed about older kids hogging the water facilities at our park which are for under 10s only. Who knows why that is - but the rules are there and when people ask them to leave they generally do.

I think as parents we are very ready to defend the rules that advantage our kids, and rather insouciant about the rules that disadvantage us.

If you don't like the rules at a particular place - don't go there. Find somewhere else.

sleeplessinstretford · 29/04/2009 19:44

i am not really arsed about whether the kid will overheat or not but if i was using something that i expected to be kid free and someone's darling 2year old was there illicitly i'd be megafucked off i reckon-i'd say something to you for defo, and if you still persisted i'd get you hoofed love.
If i've sorted a sitter so i can chill kid free i don't want yours there-regardless of how cute she might be.
also,in terms of an example of following rules and respect for elders you set a shocking example...

Have I missed something?

OP is talking about jacuzzi at local pool that some interfering passerby has randomly decided shouldn't have children in it, even though that's not actually the pool rules.

They should fuck off basically.

If children are not allowed then keep them out. If there is no prohibition, mind your own business.

There's a big difference between some exclusive spa at £100/day and the local chavvy leisure centre jacuzzi.

theyoungvisiter · 29/04/2009 20:14

"OP is talking about jacuzzi at local pool that some interfering passerby has randomly decided shouldn't have children in it, even though that's not actually the pool rules."

No, it IS against the pool rules. The passerby was pointing this out.

OP's post of 12:19:32 makes it clear that there is a sign up forbidding children to use the jacuzzi which the OP had not read - fair enough, you can miss these things, but if it's pointed out to you that you are in the wrong then it's a bit juvenile to and stay put.

laweaselmys · 29/04/2009 20:15

Er. Yes. You've missed the fact that it WAS the rules. It was on a sign which was pointed out.

I am totally uncinvinced by the science here (or rather the distinct lack of)

But if a pool has a rule you should stick to it, it's really rude and horrible not to.

KingCanuteIAm · 29/04/2009 20:18

Someguy, it is in the pool rules, the Op did say so later in the thread.

TBH, once you said that it was in the rules Jean I did lose sympathy with you. I agree that, if it is in the rules and someone has asked you to abide then you should (if no-one is worried then fair enough I suppose but someone was) However, as I like you as a poster I thought I would just steer clear as it is not really an important thing is it?

However, I have to say you lot with your swearing and carrying on are just unreal! We are talking about a kid in a pool not someone singlehandedly instigating the start of World War Three!

theyoungvisiter · 29/04/2009 20:18

"But if a pool has a rule you should stick to it, it's really rude and horrible not to. "

Completely agree.

If it was some old lady using the parent and toddler changing room and refusing to move then we'd all be tutting about her being unreasonable.

However when the boot's on the other foot then somehow it's the old lady who's unreasonable for asking the OP to obey the signs.

theyoungvisiter · 29/04/2009 20:20

to be fair canute, I think there were only three "fucks" and one of those was directed at the old lady

Quite a moderate profanity count for an AIBU thread, IMO.

sleeplessinstretford · 29/04/2009 20:29

i am such a potty mouth-it's not intended to offend. i am just very lazy and have a poor grasp of the english language...

KingCanuteIAm · 29/04/2009 20:34

TYV, my post was not directed at the swearing in itself, as I am sure you can tell by reading it. The level of fury aimed at the op for something that is, frankly, one of the most minor things I have seen on an AIBU thread is just plain silly!

theyoungvisiter · 29/04/2009 20:41

LOL, Canute, I know you weren't really only on about the swearing, that was just a joke really.

But I do think:
a) most respondents have been fairly reasonable - they've just disagreed with the OP which is, after all, not a crime.
and
b) people on AIBU can get in a fury about how many beans make 5, let alone something as major as NOT FOLLOWING SIGNAGE AT A SWIMMING POOL. Have you not witnessed the fury of the P&T parking spaces debates, woman?!

morningpaper · 29/04/2009 20:43

'tis great innit

I love AIBU

Baisey · 29/04/2009 20:43

One of the posts saying something about head going underwater has made me remember that TV show in the early to mid 90's "911 real life emergency" or something to that effect. One of the episodes was a young girl who had her hair caught in one of the jets and there was a big race to save her.
Dramatic TV viewing, I was on edge of me seat...

morningpaper · 29/04/2009 20:45

Oh yes, v. important to call 999 if you don't haev any scissors

KingCanuteIAm · 29/04/2009 20:46

Ah, I see - I got caught by the obligitory sense of humour faliure that hits when you click on an AIBU thread

I have actually managed to stay clear of the P&T threads - mainly because I now know P&T is described as children under the age of 12 and using a car seat by supermarkets - I am not sure that many of the P&T crowd would thank me for adding that to the argument

KingCanuteIAm · 29/04/2009 20:48

MP, do you think you would be allowed to run with them then?

morningpaper · 29/04/2009 20:49

GOd can you imagine

racing towards drowning girl

SLIP

stab everyone to death

hmc · 29/04/2009 20:50

"i am not really arsed about whether the kid will overheat"

Delightful attitude, just delightful

Sputnik · 29/04/2009 20:50

I knew a child who died after going in a hot pool. There is a reason for this rule.

Baisey · 29/04/2009 20:51

Lol Im now imagining "welcome to AIBU please leave all sense of humour at the gate and try to be a narky as humanly possible"
BTW am now having to google that 911 episode because yes surely you would just cut her bloody hair...

sleeplessinstretford · 29/04/2009 20:55

fucking hell hmc shakes head slowly

theyoungvisiter · 29/04/2009 21:00

"welcome to AIBU please leave all sense of humour at the gate and try to be a narky as humanly possible"

actually that would work quite well to replace the disclaimer at the top of the thread . Shall we lobby for a change?

BodyBagEgg · 29/04/2009 21:07

OP, you really landed yourself in hot water with this one.

typical mumsnet hysteria.
