to be worried about my partner who has just flown to the States?

The EU Health Health Chief chappie has now recommended that travel to swine flu hit parts of US be postponed (earlier report said any travel to any part of US should be postponed if non urgent).

DH has just arrived for non urgent business in not yet hit part of States. How crazy am I in hoping he will decide to return home? How would your company consider your return if the city was not yet flu hit, but likely to be soon according to reports?

His company is in energy sector and very risk adverse re safety issues.

Is he planning to have sex with any pigs whilst he is stateside? Has he brought any 'protection' with him?

EldonAve · 28/04/2009 08:09

you need to read the get a grip thread

kingprawntikka · 28/04/2009 08:17

Try not to worry about this , I am assuming you are in the UK and as there are two cases in Scotland I don't imagine your husband will be at any greater risk than you are here, and i would say that risk was tiny/non existant. The U.S is a big place and you say he is in a not hit part. I am sure the authorities there will be doing all they can to contain any outbreaks.

diedandgonetodevon · 28/04/2009 08:19

Oh fgs I really can't understand people who get so irrationally worried. Get a grip. He'll be fine.

Thanks to those of you who were supportive. To the rest of you - I wonder if you will be so smug in a month or so.

scottishmummy · 29/04/2009 23:02

what's your crystal ball of epidemiology tell you?what will happen in a month?

MumtoCharlieandLola · 29/04/2009 23:04

that the swine flu will mutate with the avian flu and we'll all have to be worried about flying pigs !!!! LOL

Octothechildherder · 29/04/2009 23:04

My sister lives in the states - shes dated some pigs, but the lesser human male variety lol!

Phoenix4725 · 30/04/2009 05:18

Bottyspottom

My dp lives in the states and works in a lab in one of the areas with queary swine fever outbreak

None of them are worrying , the only time he wears mask is in the lab.

Not poking fun at your concerns just wanted to reassure you that its still minmal risk. and trustme he would be first to warn me if there some seriousconcerns especially as planning to fly out with dc soon

cory · 30/04/2009 07:59

As already said, US is a HUGE place. If he is in a non-hit part, he may well be much further away from any infection than you are here in the UK.

MrsMattie · 30/04/2009 08:01

There's bird flu in the borough of London I live in. DH flew to the States this morning, and I reckon he's probably safer there than here!

frasersmummy · 30/04/2009 08:08

I have to say that swineflu doesnt seem to be that serious even if you do defy the huge odds and catch it

There have only been 8 deaths world wide.. yes I know 8 is 8 too many but everyone else appears to be having a few days in bed

so I wouldnt worry about it

People are becoming hysterical.

I overheard my neighbours saying that they will never touch pork again "not even bacon" one of them exclaimed.

FGS.

Phoenix4725 · 30/04/2009 15:46

red or brown sauce on your bacon butties folks .

cheese butties for the vedges jam for the vegans think got everyone covered

and those flying pigs better be blue ones

pingping · 30/04/2009 15:53

YABU!!!! But quick best you stock up on cans of beans and wine incase your DH comes back with the Flu the swine and your have to stay locked up in your house for months maybe even years

pingping · 30/04/2009 15:56

Botty seriously do you honestly believe this pig flu is going to kill off the population? The whole thing reminds me of I am Legend.....

I am sure they said the same thing about the Bird flu...

Don't believe the HYPE!!! Jheeze

pingping · 30/04/2009 15:58

Mrs Mattie its not anywhere near Wandsworth is it?

MorningTownRide · 30/04/2009 16:02

Bird flu Mrs Mattie??

WTF?

funtimewincies · 30/04/2009 16:08

DH is returning next week from a part of the States where there have been several cases.

Should I make him live in the garage for a week or just hose him down with Dettol on the doorstep ?

pingping · 30/04/2009 16:43

LOOOOL @ Dettol

Eilatan · 30/04/2009 17:09

I'm worried. My little one's the only one I've got or am likely to have. (I'm 43, husband's 61). I worry about everything in the hope it'll cancel things out. "man predicts all but what befalls him.! But then I worry about the fact I might have forgotten to worry enough. I can't help worrying. I HAVE got a grip and I AM being rational but it's at the back of my mind all the time. I'm supposed to go to gig at Brixton Academy tomo and I'm worried about it, being in a crowded atmosphere etc.. I might go as Michael Jackson in a mask... I've been sitting here thinking about spraying dettol about...or lavender? I've got that gel stuff everywhere that you wash your hands with.

Go on laugh at me, tell me I'm nuts. I'm still worried though.

WHAT London Boro has got Bird Flu? Are you sure?

Eilatan · 30/04/2009 17:10

Where is the You Need To Get A Grip thread?

BigBellasBeerBelly · 30/04/2009 17:24

Barnet has swine flu.

No idea about mrsmattie's bird flu I reckon she's gone addled!

I don't get the panic at all.

If it spreads, then everyone will be exposed and what happens will happen.

if it doens't really take hold, then we won't all be exposed, and so not much to worry about.

plus we have a warehouse with 6 trillion doses of that flu drug in.

plus it hasn't killed that many people it's infected.

Most at risk seem to be fit healthy 20-40 year olds so children not as at risk (but not been enough cases to really know yet).

Remember normal flu kills thousands in the UK every year... And car accidents... And heart disease etc etc.

Really, get a grip.

MrsMattie · 30/04/2009 19:09

I live in Barnet. Doh!
