Become a lawyer and work in something like commercial or tax law.

start your own business and work every hour that god sends for the next 7 years frequently leaving your family to see clients abroad

Idranktheeasterspirits · 24/04/2009 11:25

.You need to be able to do something that everyone can slag you off for and blame you for the current/future economic crisis.

Either that or a high class prostitute. Using Babington House as your base.

kentmumtj · 24/04/2009 11:28

haha loving it

Well - one thing's for sure - you don't have to be all that good at maths - judging by the number of people who claim they'll be affected but then also seem to think they'll be paying 51% tax on their entire salary, not just the bit above 150K...

ermintrude13 · 24/04/2009 11:30

Good luck with making it to the £150K mark, kentmum. Then you can join all the other extremely high earners with their offshore accounts, 6-figure bonuses and pension perks, whingeing about how they have to subsidise the lives of the great unwashed. Heard a chap on the radio yesterday bemoaning the fact that the 50% tax rate was 'punishing the members of Britain's most successful industry' - financial services. How I laughed . And threatening that this will cause a terrible brain drain. Hmm, I wonder which well-regulated and economically stable bit of the world all our poor over-taxed bankers will emigrate to right now? .

morningpaper · 24/04/2009 11:32

I suspect all those high class hookers were responsible for the fall of Northern Rock and need to be made to help clear up the mess they've made .
If you're in child protection and you want to earn then you need to think laterally.
Course providers do very well, as do all the child shrinks ( not all need years of training). Open a play therapy centre. Become an independent SW giving expert evidence in cases.Become a GAL. They may not all hit 150 but you'll certainly do better than you are now.

kentmumtj · 24/04/2009 11:35

ive heard all that too, do you think they really think its on all their salary?????????? surely not

OP posts:
ShrinkingViolet · 24/04/2009 11:36

most accoutants are not on that kind of figure either - only partner/director in one of the top firms.

kentmumtj · 24/04/2009 11:37

actually i was think8ing in terms of doing some additional traning in play therapy and have often thought of open some place privatly but its all quite scary

high class hookers does sound far easier

OP posts:
Heated · 24/04/2009 11:44

Public service jobs aren't well paid and don't often translate into private well-paid jobs either - on the other hand, like me, you do have job security and probably a good pension.

Another option is to run your own business -
or to go further up in your own area of expertise e.g become director of children's services or move sidewise and work for a charity or a different branch of children's services where there might be room for advancement.

yappybluedog · 24/04/2009 11:46

dunno, high class hooker would be rather exhausting, no?

HeadFairy · 24/04/2009 11:46

I have a friend who's a lawyer and is only 8 years post Q and is now a partner earning £250k a year... He's in commercial law.

kentmumtj · 24/04/2009 11:47

i am very glad i have job security when there are so many being made redundant so am lucky there
i do currently work in a private company maybe after some more training i will branch out a little.

i just thought the post would be interestaing being that sooooo many people are moaning about having to pay the tax on earnings over £150k

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 24/04/2009 11:50
