to think that people who threaten to leave the country because they resent paying more taxes should just bugger off without trying to elicit sympathy form the rest of us?

Oh and, many of those on high salaries earn that much either directly or indirectly because of the deregulation that caused this whole bloody mess in the first place. So to hear them moaning now they're aksed to pay a bit back ... Grrrr.

I think workhouses will be very very popular over the coming 18 - 24 months, have you packed yet

Peachy · 23/04/2009 16:35

How can I pack, too busy claiming benefits aren't I?

(Anyway Dh got on his degree course so that plus his small business and WTC will sort us out so ner de ner LOL)

lowenergylightbulb · 23/04/2009 16:36

Isn't it interesting though how labour have moved us from 10, 22.5 and 40 % tax bands to 20, 40 and 50 ...

We're all being screwed, rich and poor. Let's not fall out over petty rich/poor divides. We should be all standing together saving our rage for the corrupt politicians who have screwed us over and charged us for their porn!!!

Sorrento · 23/04/2009 16:37

The laugh will be on you hun, you got utterly shafted in that budget and you're too thick to see it.
Anyone earning £150k doesn't really care about extra tax, they'll just pass it on to you at the bottom of the heap.

goingslowlyroundthebend · 23/04/2009 16:38

What a nasty thread and how unbelieveably tragic that so many have fallen for something that is nothing more that political posturing. Yes it will raise money, will it sort the problems out? No way.
Too many people have really nasty chips on their shoulder. If you are lucky and earn alot then well done you. That persons tax, NI and personal spending is huge and so it should be. If those people go, so will the companies that service them, hairdressers, beauty salons, holiday firms, estate agents, car dealerships and on and on and on. That's capitalism. Communism simply didn't work.
Give three men a pound, one will make a million, one will live comfortably and the third will piss it up the wall.

Peachy · 23/04/2009 16:40

Well we wont be at the bottom of the heap Sorrento, but we will be trying to HELp the people there, being nice people

OrmIrian · 23/04/2009 16:41

Charming sorrento

Peachy · 23/04/2009 16:43

Thicko me Orm LOL

lowenergylightbulb · 23/04/2009 16:45

Anyway, when the global hyperinflationary holocaust hits 150K will be peanuts. So just all calm down...

Peachy · 23/04/2009 16:47

But the zombies will get you before then anyway

Sorrento · 23/04/2009 16:47

Well quite that's the point isn't it, grab headlines for now, soon we'll be wiping the DC's noses with £50 notes, what will those on benefits do then ? Clue your benefits did not go up with "real" inflation, you'll be screwed.

lowenergylightbulb · 23/04/2009 16:48

At least zombies aren't consumer driven spendthrifts with credit cards!! But they could be bodened up.

Peachy · 23/04/2009 16:51

No Sorrento I wont be as the benefit I get isn't means tested, I have other income from DH

Sorrento · 23/04/2009 16:53

Peachy I genuinely don't care how you feel at all, I was responding to your comments about you being in the workhouse, I don't care enough about you to listen or remember every detail of your circumstances.

I think that was a bit knee jerking though don't you Riven, now they've blown the steam out of their ears and realised it's actually not going to cost them much at all it's back to business as usual.

Peachy · 23/04/2009 16:57
Peachy · 23/04/2009 16:59

isn't that always the way withe verthing Sorrento? A quick blow out on MN and normality resumes? Quite reassuring really.

Sorrento · 23/04/2009 16:59

That could be the very point of mumsnet Peachy

ForeverOptimistic · 23/04/2009 17:05

For goodness sake Sorrento! Go and have a glass of wine or do a bit of yoga or something. If MN is pissing you off so much that you have to resort to such nastiness it is about time you had a break!

fourkids · 23/04/2009 17:09

some people here are very judgmental, very personal and very rude to other people. I suspect they wouldn't be quite so up front with their direct insults if it were face-to-face in rl...At least i hope not - most people here are parents and insulting people is a very poor parenting example. It is very unneccessary and weakens the point being made rather than strengthening it. hurumph.

daftpunk · 23/04/2009 17:12

communism would work..(in an ideal world)..it's basically socialism with bollocks,.... works well in cuba.

dizietsma · 23/04/2009 18:53

I wouldn't mind the moaning if they actually did bugger off.

It's all talk, they whine about paying higher taxes and how it's crippling them financially (£12,000 a year between three people, THAT is crippling you overprivileged brats), but they couldn't possibly leave their lovely London lifestyles.

WikiWooHoo · 23/04/2009 19:14

Daftpunk, communism DOESN'T work well in Cuba. They have good health and education systems, but you're better off working in the tourist industry than being a dr or teacher as you have access to the Yankee Dollar. And you need dollars to buy anything remotely nice. A lot of people are crammed in 2 room flats with not enough to eat.
