To find it very irritating when people don't come back to threads?

And I'm not just talking about the threads where something exciting/terrifying/overwhelming is happening and we're all desperate to know - those are sad when you don't hear but generally, I tend to assume that possibly the OP has something else to do.

But surely when someone asks for good party ideas, or information on something, a simple "thanks" wouldn't go amiss? When I email a friend asking for something and she emails back, I reply?

Or am I just missing the point of the internet...?

Yes my most hated phrase on MN is:

Bump. Anyone else?

FelineFine · 21/04/2009 18:19

Sorry, do you expect an answer?

FelineFine · 21/04/2009 18:20

no I detest

TrillianAstra · 21/04/2009 18:45

I love to

That is indeed the only time I have typed retro-fitted acronym, I think there is a real term for it somewhere but can't think of it. Backronym maybe.

TrillianAstra · 21/04/2009 18:46

Backronym

FelineFine · 21/04/2009 18:48

Oh I thought meant laughing at people when they are having a bad time and you don't like them. Or something.

No, snurk is like a slightly dirty-sounding snigger laugh giggle.

OrmIrian · 21/04/2009 20:00

In fact I have put myself out on 2 threads today and had response at all.

I am very hurt

I may flounce

screamingabdab · 21/04/2009 21:23

Trillian Sorry, I have been detained on another thread.

Backroym - who knew? I shall start inserting it into my conversation as much as I can

OrmIrian I was very interested by what you had to say on your other threads. Thankyou

Juxal · 21/04/2009 21:36

Thank you everyone for everything.

(playing safe)

TrillianAstra · 21/04/2009 22:33

Huh? Why were you thanking me?

I hope you had a good time on your other thread abdad, and gained many useful pieces of advice.

(is that polite enough?)

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/04/2009 23:09

YANBU. It really annoys me when people don't say thanks after you've been to a lot of trouble to post information.

I'm not asking for a medal, just a general "Thanks everyone," would be nice. Come to think of it, the worst offenders have been on other forums than MN

BlingDreaming · 22/04/2009 09:17

Thank you everyone!

"No, snurk is like a slightly dirty-sounding snigger laugh giggle"

Ah ha! so the person who me was sniggering at my problems. Hmm not nice.

Thank you for you help with this.

FAQinglovely · 22/04/2009 11:30

my problem is I have so MANY threads I'm on, and threads I've started that I can't even remember what I posted on/started this morning let alone yesterday.

If I've been busy chances are I've totally and utterly forgotten I've even asked a question - let alone go back, find the thread, read the responses and thank people

I don't have time for thread watching - Active convo's and threads I'm on keep me busy enough as it is!

BlingDreaming · 22/04/2009 13:38

FAQ - you'll see the consensus is you don't have to thank everyone, or go back every two days. It's more if you ask a specific question for a reason, get a response, you acknowledge it and then disappear... the rest of the thread then carries on alone. By acknowledging, you're saying, "thanks, I don't need any more comment if you want to comment, go ahead, but its no longer my issue"
