To find it very irritating when people don't come back to threads?

And I'm not just talking about the threads where something exciting/terrifying/overwhelming is happening and we're all desperate to know - those are sad when you don't hear but generally, I tend to assume that possibly the OP has something else to do.

But surely when someone asks for good party ideas, or information on something, a simple "thanks" wouldn't go amiss? When I email a friend asking for something and she emails back, I reply?

Or am I just missing the point of the internet...?

You can 'watch' a thread- and then it stays forever- that any help?

jeminthecity · 21/04/2009 11:59

Well, not 'forever', obviously...

Hassled · 21/04/2009 12:00

Bucharest - there's nothing wrong with bumping your own thread and I think thanking the preceeding poster is the nicest way to do it.

AnyFucker · 21/04/2009 17:05

I usually say thanks, or at least acknowledge when somebody has posted a lengthy, emotional or well-thought out reply

It seems selfish to not do so

< racks brains to remember if I ever neglected to reply to BOF in a previous name >

OrmIrian · 21/04/2009 17:08

It is annoying. Especially when you have made an effort to come back and post a link....

I miss loads of posts as I can only see so many of my threads I have posted on.

I always try and post a reponse.

MuffinBaker · 21/04/2009 17:48

Still irritated about ISAA getting the whole of MN posting and then zilch.

screamingabdab · 21/04/2009 17:52

I did my first post for advice the other week, and went back and thanked everyone repeatedly.

I was really surprised at how emotional it made me feel, knowing that people were bothered to take time to help (and it wasn't even anything particularly emotional, just help for my son's handwriting on Behaviour/Development)

BitOfFun · 21/04/2009 17:53

Who is ISSA?

screamingabdab · 21/04/2009 17:53

Oh, and what does "bumping" mean?

FlyMeToDunoon · 21/04/2009 17:55

It is very annoying when you advertise something, even if ffp, someone says oh yes I would love that what is your paypal addy? you give it and then Nothing........
for days and you don't know wether they want it or not or are off trying to hack into your paypal account or what.

BitOfFun · 21/04/2009 17:55

I think it stands for Bring Up My Post- ie keep it active.

FelineFine · 21/04/2009 17:58

Yes very irritating.

If you go out of your way to answer someone then at least a thanks would be nice.

I often ask people on threads "hello, did you read that?" "No thank you"!

I am attempting to stop this stroppiness though.

screamingabdab · 21/04/2009 17:58

Thanks from the bottom of my heart BitofFun

MintyyAeroEgg · 21/04/2009 18:00

I am afraid I might be guilty of this sometimes cos I can't see all the "threads I'm on".

I have asked questions, got a load of replies, posted my thanks, then someone else has come along hours or days later and bumped the thread when I thought it was all over. Should I go back and thank them after I've already thanked everyone else?

I have a mental black book of shame. I never forget a name and never forget anyone who has wronged me ....

mwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

screamingabdab · 21/04/2009 18:02

Thanks for the grin BitofFun

BitOfFun · 21/04/2009 18:04

I think it's quite forgiveable if it's a while after the original post, Mintyy < peers over shoulder to see if there's an appearance in black book >

TrillianAstra · 21/04/2009 18:05

I don't think that bump really stands for anything - bring up my post is a sort of retro-fitted acronym.

I doubt people started by writing 'bring up my post' and then had people abbreviate it to bump - not least because bring up = vomit.

MintyyAeroEgg · 21/04/2009 18:07

Could we please not bring up vomiting on this thread?

[emetophobe emoticon]

BitOfFun · 21/04/2009 18:07

screamingabdab...close to the wind now! < stern >

screamingabdab · 21/04/2009 18:08

Trillian I bet that's the first time you've ever typed the phrase "retro-fitted acronym", isn't it ?

screamingabdab · 21/04/2009 18:09

I'll stop now

BitOfFun · 21/04/2009 18:12

Thanks
